Wrong hotlips.  Sally Kellerman RIP played Maj Houlihan in the MASH movie, and tall blonde in Star Trek TOS Where No Man Has Gone Before; with Gary Lockwood RIP.

Loretta Swit played her in the tv show.  We are down both hotlips.

So a serious post, I used to read a shit-ton of novels that a lot of 70s and 80s shows and movies were based on.  I feel like Kellerman was hotter, and actually worked just fine for the movie, but Swit was a better Hot Lips based on the novel, and therefore better for the TV show.  But I think some of the movie actors fit their roles better than the TV actors.

Sorry brother, it’s been a long, hot, thirsty day. I’ll give this another shot tomorrow.

Shit, I'll say that Donald Sutherland was a better Hawkeye based on the book.

There were a lot of shit novelizations of TV shows and movies, and a lot of shit novels that TV shows/movies were based on, and for whatever reason, I read a lot of them (including Amerika, Kris Kristofferson's weird-ass Red Dawn series).

The original MASH novel was great. The follow-ups written by the original author were..not great, not terrible. The sequels were....partially/fully written by W. E. B. Griffin and....

One thing I think we can all agree upon is the original Radar was the best one.

Original in the series or original in the film?

Definitely.

It was a good TV show, don’t get me wrong, but the book and movie were comedies with dramatic elements, while the TV show turned into a drama with comedic elements.

Also, never understood the laugh track.  About 15-20 years ago, I got a big-ass DVD set/rip of the UK/European version, and there was no laugh track and it was so much better.

Personally, I can think of too many TV versions of a MASH character that I preferred over the Movie version.  Preferred Gould and Southerland,  Kellerman, I can't even recall Duke in the TV series, and  Duvall's version of Frank is soo much better than Linville's.  The one character from the TV series that I would have liked to have seen in the Movie version is Charles.
