Nebraska better not be the unanimous #1 when the poll comes out today. Our schedule cannot be denied.

Also not for nothing but Nebraska still has Creighton and Arizona in non-conference play

Texas has TCU, who should be top 10. And Baylor, who took Florida to 5 yesterday

As we slowly wind down non-conf play.... (mostly top 25 on top 25 matchups or teams we have played already or will play in the SEC)

Texas plays Sunday-Wednesday-Friday this week, as the team then gets a little break before starting SEC play (hosting Vanderbilt 9/24).

Elliot has been working these volleyball/football non-conf back-to-back days, with SJSU football/Stanford VB, UTEP football/ASU VB and now Baylor VB/Sam Houston football. After these, the only one left is Vanderbilt football / Kentucky VB (November 1-2), because our wonky football schedule where we won't host a football game in Austin the entirety of August.  But that will be a big weekend, for sure.

Tuesday
Nebraska @ Creighton, 6:30pm, FS1

Wednesday
Wisconsin @ Marquette, 6pm, BTN
TCU @ Texas, 8pm, ESPNU

Thursday
LSU @ USC, 9pm, BIG+

Friday
UTEP @ SMU, 5pm
Baylor @ Texas, 6pm, SEC Network
Florida @ Marquette, 6pm
LSU @ USC, 9pm, BIG+ (playing back to back days, odd)

Saturday
Washington @ Kentucky, 11am, SECN+
GCU @ ASU, 7pm, ESPN+
Arizona @ Nebraska, 7pm, BTN

Sunday
Florida @ Wisconsin, 12pm, BTN
UCLA @ Stanford, 5pm, ACCNX
Kansas @ Creighton, 5pm

I honestly don't mind.  I feel that all of our programs perform best when they feel slighted or are in an underdog role.

Maybe but I think you have to throw some respect and 1st place votes to a team who is 6-0 with 5 ranked wins, including 3 top 10 wins in a row

I agree that we deserve some votes, but there is a motivational silver lining if we don't.

Yeah, let's get real, sports is a grind for everyone that plays them at the college level.  It's a wonder more of them don't have mental health problems.

I'd bet they do but guys are probably pressured to push through and be quien es mas macho.

And, women don't really have some glorious and lucrative pro career to incentivize them, and are thus forced and also naturally inclined to stress about school in a way that most male athletes don't.

I did use the term "burnout," with its negative connotations, but I think all athletes deserve some sympathy/empathy on that.  So fuck me for that.

Nice Laurie Anderson ref.

This team is very focused and motivated. But also having fun. Stafford is perpetually always smiling. Something we didn’t see much in 2024 with Madi and Jenna. That team wasn’t having fun

Also this team should remember they made ASU tap out in set 3. Very reminiscent of set 3 against Nebraska in the national finals. The score was so demoralizing, Cook didn’t bother to call that second TO until it was just about over. JJVN did the same yesterday

When is the last time we had 3 freshmen starters? Do you know off the top of your head, Js1?

2018

Logan Eggleston
Jhenna Gabriel (didn't start the year at setter, but eventually displaced Shook in early November)
Sydney Petersen

Brionne Butler was a RS-FR starter that year

This TCU team has surprised a lot of people at 7-1 after losing their star senior OH Jaylen Gibson to a leg injury.

But just like Parra, they have another stud undersize (5'9) OH in Evan Hendrix

They are only hitting .238 on the year, so their 7-1 record is impressive considering their two main OHs are both under .190 hitting

MB Roberson .312
OH Hendrix .187
MB Sylvester .374
OH Murphy .333
OH Kelly .157
OH Coleman .255

Hendrix and Kelly get the bulk of their attempts (315 and 254), so that is where the Texas block will have to focus. Murphy has 135 and then their middles are just shy of 100 attempts each.

They shine defensively, only allowing opposing teams to hit .169 and average 2.55 blocks per set.

42 aces to 80 errors - so their serve game can hurt ya

In comparison:

Texas .256 (Stafford .294, Ames .360, AVW .170, Harvey .412, Cari .292, Devin .224, Bunton .204)
22 aces to 30 errors
2.35 blocks per set (opponents are actually outblocking Texas, 2.61 to 2.35, but most of that has to be Louisville lol)
