Well Israel has been conducting a genocide for the last two years so…not terribly surprising.

Glad that you have come around to this perspective.

Those statues are one of the wonders of the world. The carvings are just stunning and we can now know that the way they got them into place was by using timber. I am certain you already know this, but the archaeological record shows that they made fires on the island. This is one they were forced to leave because they used up all the wood available to them.

I will not call them great conservationists.

His feats of navigation were fairly incredible, considering he made four trips back in forth in ships that were 50-70 feet long and he sailed by the stars and dead-reckoning.

His first voyage took two months across unknown seas, so yeah, it was impressive.

It's difficult to judge someone from antiquity by our standards. Spain was emerging from 800 years of Moorish rule. Much of it was brutal and it shaped their world-view. The cruelty he exhibited was fairly standard for the times. Anyone who loves history, and I assume you do, knows humans kinda suck.

And his discoveries laid the path for development of the New World, so yes, he had a huge impact on the eventual forming of the United States.

I'm surprised non of you know the true story of Christopher Columbus.

I'm not sure I ever had a different one.  I'm pro-Judaism and anti-semitism.  I have been pro-Israel (as in the people of the country and their right to self-determination) but do not blindly support (and have not previously blindly supported) the actions of its government.

I've questioned those who conflate the political aspects of Israel with the religious and ethnic aspects of its primary population.  I have never supported the current government's ethnic cleansing efforts in the West Bank and wholesale destruction of Gaza.

I just don't know why that cracks me up but it really does.

Same here. Didn’t have to watch the video, I’ve remembered that line ever since Larry Monroe played that bit back in the late ‘80s.
