I’m sure we’d all like to pair Wisner with an elite portal back but I get the feeling Wisner wouldn’t like that very much.

Then Wisner shouldnt have been hurt most of the year. He should also be faster and more powerful.

Once again, Wisner Slander deserves to get you negged to oblivion. GTFO with that shit.

When Wisner is playing elsewhere next year and Kewan Lacy is running for 1800 yards at Texas, you’re going to have a blast cheering for the San Diego State Aztecs. We’ll send you a box of Kleenex to cry your tears of joy into as Wisner finishes 2nd team All Pac 12 and plays in the Military Bowl or whatever the fuck. Meanwhile, the rest of us will be kindly happy for him and focusing on who Texas plays after a first round bye in the playoffs.

In short, get a fucking grip and stop embarrassing yourself with your maudlin takes about an okay D1 back in this thread.

No, I don’t think I will do either rec. You’re thread-clogging here with weak content and the rest of us are tired of reading that shit. Push back from the keyboard, review your futility, regroup, and be a better poster going forward. We’re all rooting for you, because we don’t want you ostracize you into becoming another clown poster that no one ever takes seriously again.

Canonizing a borderline mediocrity is not going to endear you to the board.

For what? I don’t see anyone else attempting to write a hagiography for Tre fucking Wisner. Again, get a fucking grip. Texas can do better and they’re about to do so. No one wants to hear lamentations when Wisner enters the portal as an expense to that.

To boot, Texas is about to see 20-25 guys walk. I am already tired of seeing the future handwringing about guys who have been recruited and portaled over in an attempt to win the title next season.

Why are people bitching about a position with so much rotation like RB? are we just whining about a hypothetical that Wisner walks because we get help in the portal? mad because Baxter will portal? we just up Wisner's NIL because he is worth it he has elite vision and patience, it's dumb to get rid of that, it's dumb to go cheap on that.

As Texan fans, feels like we've been sheltered from the Wild West of college football due to 2 straight semifinal appearances. Sark and co. retained a lot of the roster and sprinkled in some portal players.

Shit's about to get real after a disappointing season and missing the playoffs.

Man if you think Wisner has elite traits you really have lowered your expectations at RB from watching Texas football these last few years.

Wisner has exceptional vision and patience, its why he runs OZ well. He lacks elite physical traits. The fact that he did not even start on his HS team as a senior is evidence of that. He is solid football player and would be a very good 3rd down RB with a spot in the rotation. I would love him to be on the roster next year but he should not be the lead back at a place like Texas.

Most of the names in the rumors are nothing more than potential or already proven to be lacking. There is going to be some pain, but they’re not showing the door to starters or promising contributors and they’re looking to upgrade.

People are going to tweak because that’s what they like to do. People were handwringing in the WBB thread last night when Texas was up by 18 against a top 11 team in the 3rd quarter. It’s what people do.

the majority of that is probably good attrition. The question will be how many guys Texas will lose that the staff wants to keep. There will be some, but you hope it is a small number

There should be a completely aligned view on Wisner. On the positive side, he outperformed every other back on the roster and kept Texas’ running game from being even worse than it could have been because of his ability to identify and wiggle thru the few holes being created, and fight for an extra yard. The downside of Wisner is he isn’t very fast or strong or explosive.  That also kept the Texas running game from performing. Texas must find something better. But we should appreciate what he delivered.

That's 25% of the roster and terrible roster management (more concerning, NIL deployment) if it happens to that degree.  I get there's inevitably scouting misses but that's way past trimming a little fat.

I think we all saw the warts in the terrible roster management this season, so this should be obvious. Easy examples are the OL and RB room. I said in another thread that Texas missing the playoffs might be best for the future of Sark and Texas. If Texas got into the playoffs Sark could ignore the issues and say he and his staff did a good job. Missing the playoffs should make him re-evaluate the entire program. I would be more worried if @closetojumping said he thought 5-8 would be the number. That would mean Sark is sitting pat and did not see the issues that many of us saw.

FCB put up some info on players who need to make decisions

Wisner- Considering turning pro

Moore- Considering turning pro

Muhamad- Considering turning pro, likely to do so

Hill- Most likely of anyone to turn pro

Kanu- "I'm hearing Kanu wants to turn pro but might be willing to listen if Texas shows him how much he's appreciated."

McDonald- "sources indicate Texas is making an attractive offer to entice McDonald to return for his senior season in 2026, and from what I've heard, McDonald is seriously considering returning next season."

Endries- "Endries walked for Senior Night, raising questions about if Texas had low-balled Endries in terms of NIL money for 2026. We'll see."

Robertson- "Robertson walked for Senior Night, indicating the former Austin Westlake O-lineman might be ready to move on."

Brad Spence- Good chance to return

Goosby- Good chance to return

I listened to Endries' post game interview with the Craig Way and he stated his future was unknown at the time.

When asked about walking he said he wanted to enjoy at least one Senior Night in his career.

I meant to add something to this effect and I agree; I’m not particularly bullish on Texas’ chances in the playoff this year and I’d rather the coaching staff have some early mover advantages going into portal season.

I started taking a look at the roster for dead weight and I didn’t see that much behind the guys that played.  There’s a lot of first and second year guys behind older players, and maybe they are candidates but it’s hard to know.

Guys like Neto, Vasek, and Will Randle are more obviously passed over and those are easy.  Maybe a couple of RB, a couple of the 2nd year “DB” who don’t have a clean position fit or OL that seemed passed over by a freshman Brooks at LG.

Jelani McDonald and Hero Kanu are the only two that jump out at me as guys we really need to keep for next season, maybe Jack Endries?

I'm going to take the under but wow if it's even close to this number.

It's a combination of a few things:

1) Guys think they're worth more than Texas thinks they're worth and the replacement value on each price tag would be better talent from the portal. Some guys are getting bad advice.

2) Bad evaluations. There are multiple position groups with guys who are never going to contribute, including signings as recently as last year.

3) Texas sees 2026 as a year in which the whole shooting match can be won. That means there's a tradeoff for going big now with the portal for guys who can contribute or even make a huge difference in 2026 at the expense of continuing to invest in every player that might have some promise, but is unlikely to be showing that during meaningful snaps in 2026.

Somewhat educated guesses below.

OL: 3-6 guys. TSome guy could be younger players that they'd prefer to see not leave, but they might be pricing themselves outside of the investment range for this cycle and are not expected to win starting spots either. Connor Stroh can go dismantle an offensive gameplan at UTEP or something. If you find yourself wondering "why doesn't this guy ever play when we've heard good things?" it's either due to Flood playing favorites, which is allegedly a thing, or the guy "doesn't love football", which makes him a terrible evaluation.

WR: 3-5 guys. One evaluation is a bust from 2025. That one will go get money and be fool's gold somewhere else. One dude may leave for the NFL and good luck to him and his UFA or 7th round pay cut. There's a guy that just might not have it emotionally to do what needs to be done in order to meet his potential and could leave even if Texas would rather see him stick for the potential alone. I'm not even sure what to do about Niblett. He just signed with an agent and that doesn't make him cheaper or dampen market interest. Does anyone really believe that Aaron Butler is about to break through here?

TE: 2-4 guys (including Endries to the NFL). The emergence of Townsend means that Endries might not start if he returned. A guy like Winston they supposedly love, but that dude could start at a lot of places and might be getting actually good advice if he heads out. That was a great evaluation by the staff. Does Randle actually want to get snaps somewhere? Someone said he did, which, wow. Good luck if that's true. Washington saw his role diminish as Townsend emerged.

RB: 3-4 guys. They will probably be able to hold on to Simon. They're allegedly going very big in the portal here. Wisner isn't being run off, but he might be asking for something that doesn't make sense. Clark, Baxter, Edwards (for those counting him still), and Gibson (obviously) get you to 4 without losing Wisner. I guess maybe it could go to 5. Cooper, Walker, Simon and a proven star from elsewhere would be a fine RB room. If Terry is sticking at RB, it's even deeper, I guess.

QB: 1 guy. Good luck to Owens.

Edge: 1 guy. The hue and cry from the west side of Austin will be something we'll all have to endure, I guess.

DT: 1-2 guys. Hills, thanks for your efforts. Is Lavon Johnson good enough to be on the roster?

LB: 0, hopefully.

DB: 2-3 guys. If you're heading into year 3 and never sniff the field, it's probably time to look elsewhere. Some guys here may have a higher opinion of their worth than what Texas is willing to bear.

My low end is 16, I guess. It's pretty fucking easy to see the numbers run right past 20. Is this healthy or not? Not fully. Some of this will hurt and some of this reflects poor evaluations. There's also the healthy element of cutting the bottom 10% every cycle to move the floor up. Even with 105 scholarships, if you know a guy isn't going to play for the program, he's just taking up space that could be allocated elsewhere in both a body and a salary.

Interesting that, if you're correct about the numbers, the are predominately on the offense.

My view on it is that Sarkisian holds each side of the ball to different standards and he's either really pushing the defense on their evaluations, or giving them total freedom to handle their allotment of scholarships and they're doing a better job. Whatever is going on, either they don't know what they're doing on the evaluations on the offensive side of the ball, or they've gotten lazy. Perhaps turnover on the staff has also impacted things at RB and WR. In short, yada yada yada and Flood looks like he fucking sucks at this point and zero excuses for the dishevelment in the OL room.

whats changing on the staff to fix all the bad evals?

Hopefully the people on the staff and some additions in the film room to help out.

I do want to remind folks that a high amount of skepticism should be applied to what I'm posting on stuff like this.

a) I'm wrong a lot. Shit changes when you're managing people, and talent acquisition and retention are mercurial issues in organizations. Also, I don't ask many questions, and sometimes I make assumptions when someone is bullshitting with me and I end up drawing the wrong conclusion accordingly.

b) I think people do their own wishcasting when it comes to staff changes. Half the time over the last 15 years I've heard people speak definitively about so and so coming or going and then nothing happened.

That said, I feel good enough on the player side to post what I posted. I remain from Missouri on the notion that all of Akina, Flood, Jackson and Scott will be seeking employment elsewhere.

Posted

May not make sense to pipe up after ctj who has a closer pulse on things but my thoughts:

1) Feel like we've wrung out the Wisner discussion

2) Dudes I think it makes sense for us to make happy and could bolster stock with 1 more year: McDonald and Goosby. Probably Hero if the dollars align? Assume Goosby is well regarded for the draft, but if you get a competent Guard next to him and has another year of experience, probably a top 5 pick? Maybe that's just wishful thinking, but hopefully the NIL money can make it competitive. Against better judgment, will hope FCB has a good read.

3) Leavings- Felt like Endries was always a 1 year rental, happy to be proven wrong. Feel OK with what we have at TE behind him, loved seeing a few real blocks thrown by Townsend. Would love to hold on to Muhammad, who I think was great this year and missing him for the Florida game felt huge, but my sense is he wants to get to the league. I have a hard time seeing Ant sticking around. Maybe he wants another shot at bossing A&M since he missed out this year....

4) WR - If Moore likes the smell of his farts too much, seems like his production is replaceable. Like what Mosley showed back half of this year, excited about another year of him. A group of Wingo, Mosley, Alan Jackson, Moore/Sophomore that pops/Portal doesn't scare me. Maybe get some illegally sticky gloves for Wingo so he can hold on to a few more balls.)

5) My wishlist for 'proven, plus starter' i.e. studs from the portal goes 2IOL (esp if Robertson ducks out, who was serviceable if not great), 1 DB. The rest feels like replace/upgrade strategically, but if we can't shore up the line or replace some of the departing experience in the defensive backfield, I sense a long season of discontent. I would prefer, however, the 'go for broke' approach and maximize the presumed final Arch year.

I think it was IT that said there may be more coaching turnover than expected. Could have been OnTexas, but it was one of them.

If our TEs are good, we should be playing in 12 a lot, with plenty of playing time to go around. Endries doesn't block well enough to be the starting TE in a good rushing attack in 11 personnel in college, which means he has no shot at it in the NFL. But attached as the move TE in two TE sets could be an explosive offense. The staff should sell the TEs all playing a lot as a way to keep the young guys in the fold, and they shouldn't even necessarily be selling lies on this one.

I've even wondered if we'd bring in a transfer in-line TE to add to that room. If we going to be serious about actually punishing teams in the run game, obviously OL and RB improvements are critical, but having at TE who can actually block and force defenses to match heavier personnel matters almost as much
