This is actually Lane Kiffin's fault. He took Billy Glasscock from Texas a couple years ago. Then Sark promoted Harris from the Director of Recruiting position.

SDS is real.

So a couple of years ago I was told the only and best way to build a team is per recruiting. So as it stands now we are trying to fill slots with athletes we don’t need to develop (they are experienced) from other schools because our recruits did not pan out and are leaving en masse. Shit even CJ Vogel and others are a wee concerned. 9 days left to fill those openings. And hope the athletes we select in the portal will pan out.

It’s not SDS. The signs were showing themselves all year something wasn’t right. To be fair I mainly only bitched about his play-calling UNTIL the Florida loss and really only poured on the dislike the day of the Miss State game/Russini report. So essentially we are Texas. A top 5 destination and we have lost so many recruits that we are now having to fill a wide swath of the team with guys we did not recruit. So we are building a Frankenstein team. Which can work if we have the right eye for talent across the board which based on certain position groups performance last year is not a given.

I think this is a general misconception among fans. The reason 12 personnel did not work was because the TEs have generally struggled to block. There is nothing inherently wrong with 12 personnel, if you have the correct personnel to run it. Texas has not had a legit in-line TE, since Swaim. The use of 12 personnel is growing faster than any formation in the NFL. It is a response to defenses playing more DBs and smaller faster defenders. If you can punish smaller fronts in 12 personnel, defenses are forced to bring in heavy sets and then you get the mismatch of Townsend on a bigger LB.

And you need 5 across the line who can block too. Attract more in the box, without an OL/TEs that can man up and you’re fucked. Which is what happens when Sark goes to 12.

Hahaha nice to meet you over here tBrand.

I’ve railed on the 9.95ers because I think anyone who listens to that shit it’s stupid. Actual news from them fine but the daily updates filled with hot takes are an absolute waste of time.

However, I think the real blame lies with this Brandon Harris fella, Flood and Sark. They get caught with their pants down way too often. We’re Texas should have us with the best back office/GM set up and we should be out Indiana-ing Indiana. Instead we are going after guys that are a huge risk to stay put. The mismanagement is unreal.

I get there’s time to recover. But holy shit we have 9-10 days remaining and right now we just need warm bodies to even make a team.

How the fuck did we get to a place going into our third year in the SECx3 and our Oline is trashed like this? Unbelievable.

Yep. The whole purpose of 12 personnel is so you can have an advantage in the run game by putting bigger bodies on the field. The reason why 12 sucked so much here the last two years is because the interior O-line can't block. Someone was always getting beat. Either getting pushed in the backfield or beat so quickly that the back had to juke a defender a millisecond after getting the ball. So you have no running advantage and your second TE can't catch passes. So basically you just volunteered a receiving target off the field making it easier to defend you. That's why we were so much better in 11. We ran shitty out of 11 too, but at least we could throw it. Lol

According to CJ Vogel so far our portal class is ranked 20th. Not bad. We have 9 days right? We will fill the holes we have with the players from the portal. But if you told me we would have two top tier ranked QBs in a row and with an ascendant Arch we are now playing catchup with schools who need the portal to survive and getting outclassed by teams like Indiana and Wisconsin and Vandy I’d have said impossible. To me it’s further proof Sark phoned in 2025 and we have some real issues for 2027.

We have nine days. We can always up our haul and land our portal class in the top 15. But yeah anyone who thinks this is normal for a Top 5 team is blowing way too much smoke up their own ass. I don’t kink shame but come on.

200.gif

I don’t really care about portal rankings because if you need less you take less. I care more about quality of the takes at the needed positions. Unfortunately Texas has glaring holes that make it a necessity that we land a top 3-5 portal class to hope and expect to be in the CFP as a real contender next year.

Will that happen in 9 days? Who knows, but it’s bullshit we are here like nervous nellies wondering and hoping.

Edited by scramblyn

Portal class rankings are also useless, so there’s that. Outside of that though yea there’s work to do

I absolutely believe there are OL guys that are 3* players or even 2* that are overlooked and can ball.

💯 Look at what Mendoza himself was rated coming out of high school. You can absolutely have a 5 star culture with 3 stars if you have a sound process and practices and staff in place that focus on the grind and repetition.

Mendoza has been a recruiting video for Indiana the past month plus. We are process oriented he says. We run the plays over and over and over in practice he says. We can drag teams into the deep end he says. we are all focused together on one common goal. We are all in synch and can fight in the trenches and we work as a unit. They have established a culture with complete portal players in two years.

This is year 6 of sark and it’s like (outside of Muschamp) a bunch of frat boys trying to moneyball portal players bc we didn’t recruit well. These are all sark’s handpicked dudes. His guys and his staff. What matters is what happens after we finish raiding the portal. That’s all that matters. Because working hard and coaching them up and developing them and doing their job is what we should all be demanding from Sark and his staff. We went 5-7 and 8-4 when he first arrived and then had two amazing seasons and this year was mostly unwatchable but we beat our rivals and wound up 9-3. A testament imo to the players fighting hard and making plays. We will need a Herculean coaching effort from Sark and his staff due to the fact we have basically turned over a lot more of our roster (besides draft) than expected. Arch cannot carry the whole team against elite competition.

I been saying for days now that Indiana gave everyone the blueprint. Even Ole Miss and Miami did too by how they addressed the portal. They didn't focus only on the "top" players.

The blue print has been around a long time. But you have to have a competent coaching staff in place to execute it. Regular practices for a start would help. Being 💯 involved and focused solely on the job would help. Are the people on our staff and at the GM “role” the very best we can get? Are banks and flood really the best at their jobs? We jettisoned PK bc he wasn’t Sark’s first choice for a readymade HC in Muschamp. And he will be a new addition that we hope will be seamless as far as coaching is concerned. Sark wants to go sit with Arch and call plays and hope that Banks and Muschamp will coach the team while the other units are on the field. We crowned the guy already and he has his work cut out for him in a year which should be easy. We have Arch. We have location and the facilities and the history and the money. So why does it seem so fucking hard in year six and don’t say agents and money and Wild West bc every school is dealing with the same crap,

The truth was that Iowa State player (RB I think) was 💯 correct. We just hated he said it. Even though he was right. Out athlete and we recruit the best has always been our motto. We need to start out practicing teams.

Damn new site shit

I think y'all overrate "We're Texas" and players just jumping.

High School players and transfers don't think that way. We shouldn't recruit that way. (I doubt the staff does it to the extent that surly says it.)

Once they're here, "We're Texas" might be how we keep them.

Show them how they fit, how they'll get on the field, how they'll develop for the next level, and how they'll get paid.

It's not crazy. Only one of those things is openly new.

Players still talk to each other. Teams are still built the right way. Money is just an additional consideration.

I was watching some sports show and they had on McVay and he said even in the NFL you still need to explain to players why. Why are we asking you to do this 100 times? He said you explain the why and 90% of the players get it and they buy in. The ones that don’t will be on another team. Our pitch last year was we are doing things to emulate the NfL bc Sark visits NFL teams in the spring and he admires how they do things, that got us 9-3 and we are a Niblett away from 7-5. Sark is the one in the Spring who touted the NFL light to no contact practices as the way to go and told many media outlets how he admires how the run shit. But why? We shouldn’t be crowning athletes that ain’t earned shit position wise before they have. Now we have systemic rot in year 6. People love to blame the talent, the rankings and have done so for years. What would Cig have done here in year two? It doesn’t matter bc we wouldn’t have hired him bc we are Texas and we know better (McWilliams, Makeussick, Strong) we couldn’t have hired him.

We need a Mr Miyagi right now drilling repetition into the players not some slick ass bullshit that Deion was doing at Colorado.

I wonder if Will McClay would like to finally get that GM title in front of his name, and if he would be open to it on the college level.

I'm not even joking. I'm thinking of options, because we have to improve that position if we want to survive.

McClay could run the whole thing and turn it around instantly.

Edit the above: Never mind, I'm a dumbass. I just looked it up, didn't realize McClay signed a new multi-year deal. Some guesses on the internet said he could be making 8-10 mil a year. Holy shit. yeah never fucking mind about that pipe dream

You have no idea. As her agent our "Nicky" I can tell you is a hot commodity indeed. Her night crew posts inspired a docuseries that will not be soon forgotten. She has sources about UT Football that the $9.95 guys would pay at least $10 for. We are in negotiations for a new Surly NIL deal, as we will no longer accept Cheez-Its as currency. She could enter the forum portal and get a deal from TigerDroppings or SECRant in a heartbeat.

She receives numerous pm's for racy pictures. We have considered putting these pictures on t-shirts with the words "BOOM Mother Fucker under it for sale. If she finds this too much, we exchange the picture for one of her in the Wonder Woman costume worn by Linda Carter seen on this forum.

She is writing her biography as we speak entitled "Nicole44, How I Went from Complete Unknown to Internet Icon." Then we sell the rights of this book for a movie deal. As most here know, Clair Danes will play her in this sure to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar film and for Actress in a Lead Role for Clair Danes.

I will push hard for all this because 10% of Cheeze-Its don't go very far these days.

You still can't convince me part of the problem wasn't Mack showing back up and making himself at home again. Someone needs to get him a hobby outside of the state, one in which he doesn't have the ability to go around and meddle in the business of Texas football. I mean, respect for the championship, but coming back to ride the coat tails last year, and sticking around... brought bad mojo. 🤘🏾

A bunch of items conspired to contribute to IU’s success in the past 2 years.

Very good coach focused on attention to detail; portal; deep NIL pockets; weak Big10 schedules.

2024 - SOS = 35. Losses to Notre Dame and Ohio State, their only ranked Opponents.

2025 - SOS = 28. Undefeated. Beat 3 (at the time) ranked opponents: Illinois (9), @Oregon (3), tOSU (1).

IU is a better team this year, but they drew powerhouses like Purdue, MSU, UCLA, and Wisconsin in conference this year. The OOC schedule of Old Dominion, Indiana State, and Kennesaw State is quite underwhelming.

Yet this is exactly what many here are clamoring to see with Texas schedule.

However, in his second year Cignetti took down OSU and Oregon, currently among top programs in the country. This board has gone full aggie in the put the CFP appearances trophies on the wall, trust the corches, if you're not supportive of the corch you're a 2%er, we can’t do any better any ways. All consistent aggie tropes we mock relentlessly.

We fired the only positioncoach consistently producing and kept the shitty OL coach and shitty GM with promises of going hard with NIL to get OL in portal only to so far bat .000 on the wrong side. All while blaming PK for the offensive issues because "concentration" or some such shit.

@MissingInAction noted it but last year we struggled with what would have been Kansas and Baylor in the Big XII and lost to a complete shit show that is currently around okie state level in Florida.

Yet, there is a shit ton of "put it on the wall, back to back CFP appearance trophy" posters who still think Sark is amazing despite Georgia 1, Georgia 2, Georgia 3, OSU 1, and OSU 2.

That goes for any formation. If you cannot block, you cannot play offense, but that is obvious. Texas did lean on the 6 man OL package with a poor OL early in Sarks tenure. There is an advantage to asking the defense to cover more gaps.
