Harris would be fired in two months if he was responsible for retention in a sales department. He’s gawd awful. Honestly I know players visit and depending on how big a name the player is there will be gossip but Harris needs to have better poker face. When it comes to dudes we want

From The Music Man (musical), talking about an anvil salesman:

Ya can talk, ya can talk, ya can bicker, ya can talk
Ya can bicker, bicker, bicker, ya can talk, ya can talk
Ya can talk, talk, talk, talk, bicker, bicker, bicker
Ya can talk all ya want but is different than it was

They are grown ass men. Not kids.

I understand that dichotomy makes it easier for some to process. But my son is a current D1 player. We also have countless friends who are also D1 players, a few of whom may be discussed on these boards. It’s really fun for us to follow right now.

But here’s the deal, you are right in that they are not kids. But you are wrong because they aren’t grown ass men either. They are neither.

Add to that this is the craziest of times in college football, times that even the most experienced adults are having a difficult time navigating and it’s understandable that many don’t know how to navigate it.

I just disagree with the piece above deliberately using the word "kids" regarding the players like 6 times in one paragraph, as if someone is victimizing 10YO boys.

College football as a whole =/= Sandusky

Sark the OC is relying on the position coaches for that... As he should. When a player isn't cutting it, Sark the OC should say, "I need someone better. We have X players at that position, I expect one of them to be better than this. What are we missing?"

And the position coach should be confident in their coaching ability and the players they have and be able to put in the next player. If none of the players can succeed, the position coach cannot be counted on to succeed - either they can't coach or they can't identify talent... Or both.

Sark the Head Coach must identify the failure points and address them.

Agreed. That said you gotta free yourself up to get on the golf cart and ride around every once and again.

Sadly the transfer portal UT list is going to have more players added to the OUT category by the end of the day.

IMG_9904.jpeg

this Transfer Portal team is talented enough to win the Big 12.

texas isnt the outlier in the transfer portal.

if you attract the best high school recruits, they remain top targets for other schools even if they havent proven out in your roster.

It looks like this offseason the NCAA is fully morphing into semi-pro football. I thought there was still a chance it would basicaly still be college football and we would get used to the changes, but with all of the historic Bluebloods rosters getting cannibalized, I see that is no longer possible. It's too bad, I quit watching the NFL years ago, college football was something unique, I really enjoyed watching the guys play for the love of the game.

We hear so much about a lack of loyalty from the players today, but consider this scenario for the players who aren't the stars:

You're a scholarship player who has everything handled for you by the school including tuition, class schedules, tutors, stipends, swag, meals, health care, practice schedules, trainers, housing, and everything else.

You've haven't had much playing time, but the coaches had promised that your time was coming, and that you just had to keep grinding.

Now, you've been at the school for one or two years and you get called into a meeting with an graduate assistant and someone from HR. During this meeting, you are informed that your role on the team has pretty much ended, and you should really consider going into the portal and catching on at another school. You're assumed everything was fine and you're in shock. School was never your thing and you have no idea where you even stand academically.

They give you forms to sign, and direct you to the portal website, show you how to register, and tell you that you should reach out to this person who might help you for a fee. They also inform you that once you sign, all those perks and help you've received will no longer be available to you. You can't use the facilities, but worse, you don't have anyone to help you navigate this confusing process. You enter your name but you see that there are hundreds of other players who play your position already registered. You tell them you need time to review the paperwork. They tell you you have 24 hours to review it.

You try to call your position coach, but he doesn't answer. You call your parents, who are really upset, and they also try, but also get no response. You reach out to your high school coach and ask him to help you, and he promises to help. You try to force your way into the head coach's office. After all, didn't he tell you his door was always open for you? Today, it's closed.

Finally, desperate, you reach out to that booster who 'helped you out last year when things were tough.' He doesn't answer.

Now you have a complete understanding of big-time college athletics.

Rosters gonna get smaller in CFB -- if yah getting paid yah gotta play.

NFL model 65-70 paid players. Then add 20-30 non-paid scholarship players (2 star and below) for practices and development. If non-paid players leave not as big a deal.

Example that doesn't work is pay a 1st yr player who doesn't see the field (like WR Ffrench) then leaves.

Also, this guy was gonna visit Texas -- not now 🙄

Brooks should be back at tackle. Seems like an enormous mistep to take a guy touted as a 3 year NFL tackle and then yank him in and out for 2 years at guard. Also he sucked at guard

LT: Goosby, Chatman, Turntine

LG: Christian? N Robertson? Portal?

C: C Robertson? Portal?

RG: Baker, Coleman?

RT: Brooks, Cojoe, Portal?

Folks here won't be happy with this lineup. I wouldn't bet on it being good either but at this point it looks like our most likely scenario

For many of us here who worked their way through it and received none of this due to our exceptional lack of exceptional physical talent it was hard to get up in the feelings about this BEFORE we added grown-working-adult salaries on top of everything else. And for many, 2,3,4,5,6,20x a grown-working-adult salary.

Yeah, we have to learn to wipe our own asses at some point in our lives. That's true. And yeah, it can feel bad to have to do that because we're so unused to it.

But if you're in your 20s I fail to see what any of these people owe you after having already given you so much.

Is there no interest from:

Biles or Graham at LB?

Horton at WR?

Guarnera or Tshabola at G/C?

Washington at RB?

I hear you and I honestly wasn’t judging whether the system ultimately owes him more or less. I was more trying to imagine the feeling of going from being the BMOC to a forgotten item. Big-time sports have always been a tough and cruel industry.

Speak for yourself. I caught 1 INT in a UT intramural football game.

I suppose a big question is whether or not we're pulling scholarships. I can't imagine we would be given how big rosters can now be. It would seem that what we're doing is saying, "You have your scholarship and those attendant benefits, but you're not getting NIL on top of it anymore (or a huge NIL paycut)."

Not over my 3 TD catches and 1 passing TD record breaking ass did. Yeah, it's true I was playing for the DIII Theater program, but I was a stud and slept with 3 different "actresses" given my football accumen.

I think the scenario you imagine is more accurate.

Yeah the fact that Washington decided to enforce their contract recently with Williams that he signed for $4.5 million (we will sue you asshole) a sign of things to come. You take our money you will play here or we will sue you if you leave kind of shit. There has to be some sort of ROI for the massive paychecks these dudes are getting. Schools that didn’t have language like that in their contracts will now and as CTJ says it’s going to bring some levity to this shit bc we have no governing bodies the schools are going to have to police it.

I’m 💯 cool with it. You want to take $5 million dollars from us that’s fine. You’re staying here and you will play for that pay. I see NOTHING wrong with it bc we have no governing body willing to step in and do a damned thing.

Kids now gonna be like…
