I feel like this has nothing to do with making the food ordering experience faster, well maybe for Alamo, and everything do with cutting the numbers of servers required and paying less for food runners instead. A digital order ahead option would be fine. This is just dumb.

That’s 100% what it is despite what they say. Now you just need food runners instead of waiters. And a bunch of assholes will now have their phones out throughout the movie. How can you enforce a no texting policy when people need their phones to browse your menu.

In San Antonio you can digital order until the movie starts and after that it’s back to paper. That would be fine.

This is so stupid. I like to turn my phone off during a movie. Let me use the damn paper and pen halfway through when I want another beer/refill/snack

This is of course to allow them to staff few waiters, and I am not a fan of this for ordering in movies. That said, I am.... not the biggest detractor of this for ordering food up front. I'll go catch a lunch matinee on Fridays frequently when work is dead and I'm well over 40 for the week, and paper and pen or with the waiter taking my order directly before the movie they'll fuck up my pizza more often than not. I like to add jalapenos and onions and I like a shaker of red pepper on the side, and it is just always missing at least one of those things whenever a human takes the order and it so far has not when I put it in on the mobile app.

Anyways, I think this is a bad sign and mostly sucks, but man ordering from the waiters is frustrating sometimes.

Lots of theaters and restaurants force you to install their app to order food.

Lots of cunts.

This is some private equity fuckery no doubt.

More like Sony Pictures corporate fuckery.

No even about installing the app. I have the app. It’s just completely anti the whole Alamo experience and why many people choose their theaters.

I tried the mobile ordering at a showing a month or ago, which you were reminded to do only during the preshow.

Could never get it successfully complete an order and add food to my tab. It did link successfully to my seat so I could view my tab.

Certainly don’t like the sound of this news.

I have Season Pass and am up there a bunch spending money. This will no doubt change my theater choices. Just idiocy. Stop making me order from a fucking app. This is obviously cost cutting related but they can’t say it because they’re cowards.

This is the same as Southwest, take away the things that differentiate you and you’re just the same as anyone else. Loyalty will disappear.

I have a Drafthouse season pass that I hadn’t used for a while. I checked my account and there were bookings for shows in Brooklyn. WTF. Has this hack happened to anyone else?

Making it 3 hours without eating is tough...

Literally every movie theater offers a food option so you don't go 3 hours without eating. It's how they make their money. Most just have you get it in advance of entering for the show.

They've already been trialing this for months, all it replaces is the initial waiter visit and swipe of your card to open a tab. When the movie starts you still order on paper, in fact the app won't work during the movie; then you walk out after auto paying and closing your tab thru the app

They're doing this in San Francisco as well. The online ordering didn't have all options that were on the menu and it was a pain in the ass to boot. Thankfully, we just ordered with paper and they handled things like normal. If they ever go to app purchases only it's likely we'll just stop going there.

Did you not read the article? This is a change from THAT. As in, now you will have to order using the app during the movie. They're doing away with paper entirely.

"Alamo Drafthouse locations will utilize a digital system that will let the guests browse the menu, order prior to and during the film, and pay directly from their phones."

This is different than what was trialed.

And from what I’ve read, the app sucks - hard to customize, hard to redeem rewards, hard to ensure you get your 10% F&B credit for season pass holders.

how fun!

They should do something revolutionary... have an intermission.

If you're going to a place for the dining/ drinks, then have a designated break.

The phones and disruption would bug the fuck outta me during the show.

That wouldn’t bother me. Especially now that previews and commercials have stretched to 30 fucking minutes.

Forget the food.

They should put a QR code on the screen before the movie and beg for cash. If enough cash is raised, they skip the trailers and start the film. Just get on with it, I have a life.

TLDR, switching to mobile ordering which means people will now be using their phones during the movie to order.

Also not sure how you complain about disruptive customers without the paper.

This sucks a lot.

Take it to the enshittening thread

Oh and the food has been shit since covid

Can you read?

Our inability to read before firing off a hot opinion might be one of the most enshittening things on this website.

I guess I'm guilty of this too since the article says they won't cut staff or lower wages. I just frankly don't believe them on that. It wouldn't shock me if this is also a response to the push for unions at some locations.

Yes. I have posted my impotent rage there for a few weeks now.

The article (gasp) is incorrect, they literally have a video before the movie starts instructing you to not use the app and instead use pen and paper once the movie starts.

If it’s the same garbage QR code pointing to a shitty website as before then I’ll just do the paper thing after the movie starts. That user experience sucks ass.

Uh, you can’t read

Starting in February

The pen and paper was while they tested the app and how well it worked. In February, pen and paper goes away completely and everything goes to the app while the movie is playing. The article was written based on an Alamo press release.

Then I shall take a moment to express my feelings ...

Angry Office GIF

I like the pen and paper because I could have my second beer written down and ready to go when I’m ready for it and not have to be writing shit in the dark.
