Smoker Project?

I didn't bid on it, although for the selling price I almost wish I did- Even though I have no space, tools, or know how.  Interested to hear thoughts about how ya'll would mod it to make it functional.  These kind of trucks come up from time to time but I've never seen it done.

Assuming you can safely (from toxicity standpoint) use a fuel tank, and it’s not rusted through:

Will need to sandblast inside and out, and powdercoat.  There is no firebox, so would have to add, along with cutting out lids/doors and putting in grates, and a smokestack.

If it were safe to use:

  • take the door off the back, add a fire box, plate remaining gaps.
  • remove both troughs, create high strength ledges for standing/shelfs.
  • weld plates across bottom in a V shape to a center trough that angles from each end to a drain/drains for cleanout.
  • 4 racks, or however many would reasonably fit.
  • 4 doors on each side

Other options:

  • could create a double reverse flow (firebox to front, to back, to front and out stack.
  • Could go half pit, half warmer, or 2/3 pit 1/3 warmer

Lots of things that could be done with that shape. (Again, assuming it was safe to do so.)
