  1. I think he believes he can bully Trump/Republicans into helping him out with the threat of a new political party. I don't think he realizes that the GOP has easily dealt with third-parties and pseudo third-parties in recent years. They fucking wrecked/consumed the Tea Party movement from within, and that was a pretty big movement with a lot of actual grass roots stuff going on. Elon may try and start a third party, but he should be extremely wary when long-time GOP operatives show up, say they are tired of the GOP, and want to help out. Except he won't be wary, because he thinks that he knows what he is doing is right and has the support of many people, so of course it makes sense that long-time Republicans would show up to join his party. They will get in there, eat up his finances, keep everything divided, slow-roll the shit out of the whole process, and generate infighting. They will make any potential party about as effective as the libertarians.
  2. James Gunn: Some people will take offence at my new Superman ““There are three things I don’t ever need to see again in a superhero movie, I don’t need to see pearls in a back alley when Batman’s parents are killed. I don’t need to see the radioactive spider biting Spider-Man. And I don’t need to see baby Kal coming from Krypton in a little baby rocket. We have watched a million movies with characters who don’t have their upbringing explained, like when we see Good Night, and Good Luck—we don’t need to know the early life of Edward R. Murrow to explain how he became a journalist. Who cares?” We had to see a lot of origin stuff with the Marvel movies because a lot of normal people weren't too familiar with the non-X-Men/Spidey/F4 heroes, and in those cases, they were setting up long-term arcs. I think Gunn did it right in Guardians with giving us bits and pieces of backstories. Peter and the shit that happened with his mom, the scars on Rocket, etc.
  3. What if I told you that if the Deep State truly existed the way the Epstein Truthers believe, Trump and Co. would not have been elected? I hope Musk gets called out on this a lot in the coming days, because he always thinks he's the smartest/savviest guy in the room and he has to get his opinion out there for the likes/clicks.
  4. 1234. It's why no matter how tough they are, some dude can walk in on you banging his wife, and you stand up, fully nude, and scream at him "I may have made love to your wife but I'm gonna fuck you so hard your grandchildren are going to feel it and your wife is going to film the whole thing" and I guarantee you that they are going to get the fuck out there. Whether it's you being fully nude, or your raging erection, or the intensity in your voice or your eyes, you have to convince them that you are in fact going to fuck them, and they will flee, saving one of you a trip to the hospital. Edit: it would probably work at a gas station hold-up, assuming you could get your clothes off and get erect fast enough. Dudes who cosplay that they are tough generally can't handle another nekkid man.
  5. Gilroy showed how to do it with Andor season 2. Thread that needle - leave people wanting a little more, but don't leave a lot of people going "I don't know if I can finish this".
  6. From that AP article earlier They did it right.
  7. Probably/maybe? They did something like two dozen water rescues within Travis County (and maybe a few outside of TC), and it sounds like they were deployed where needed. I know they didn't deploy to Kerrville, and the union is blasting the fire chief over that, but I think their reasoning was that they expected bad flooding within Austin/Travis County.
  8. Everybody knows the NWS did their job - their watches were out there on Thursday. There were even friends we know who left Kerrville Thursday night and figured they would drive back to Kerrville Friday if things were fine, based on what they were hearing and being concerned about all of that moisture moving up (they have experience with river flooding in the past), and they said others left the area and went back to Austin/East based on traffic around them. Unfortunately, prior to this weekend, based on public comments, because there's so many smaller floods or near-floods, the officials and businesses weren't going to treat every one of them as if it's a repeat of '87. Because of the history and geography of that area, and because of what just happened, I would imagine that at this point going forward, that mentality of blowing off flood watches/warnings, and the old mentality of upper-river camps warning down-river camps will be thrown out the window. Any camps in that area that are able to re-open, will not be insured unless they have some serious and verified warning systems in place going forward and some kind of night watch improvement, and the cabins will have to be on a higher elevation (and I really have my doubts about whether they could get any kind of insurance for anything close to the flood plain). And I imagine the state will change up regulations or add regulations concerning this stuff. And I'd also imagine that it won't be just the camps, but that there will need to be local/county improvements to warning systems, for the insurance companies to sign off on anything. But I have my doubts about how many of those camps will ever re-open. Back in the 80s during the last bad flood, that coverage was pretty limited outside of the area/Texas - I only remember the 1987 flood because one of those who drowned was the kid of one of my mom's friends. If you were not directly affected, after a few days, it drops out of the public consciousness. Fast forward to 2025 and a year or two from now, thanks to the internet, this stuff will still be fresh and easily accessed. Even if they satisfy the insurance companies and even if the local municipalities improve/add warning systems, and they meet whatever standards the state changes or adds, how many parents are going to be willing to risk it? Even 2-3 kids drowning would be enough for a lot of parents to bail on those camps, but 27?
  9. Nobody I know outside of Surly or Reddit or true-crime sites has really gives a fuck about this and very few are even aware of the deaths I have relatives in other towns and states ask me about it and can’t believe when I say it’s a running joke with a lot of people or that we aren’t scared to go downtown.
  10. He’s lucky he’s not in Russia. Putin deals with such people in a harsh manner. https://www.cnn.com/2025/07/07/europe/russian-minister-suicide-intl Former Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit died by suicide on Monday, just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin fired him from the job, officials said. Starovoit was dismissed by Putin on Monday morning. The decree announcing his dismissal was published on the official Kremlin website, with his deputy Andrey Nikitin appointed acting minister. Asked by reporters for the reasons behind Starovoit’s dismissal, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov denied this was due to a “lack of trust,” but he did not give any alternative reason. The Investigative Committee of Russia said in a statement that Starovoit’s body was found inside a car in Odintsovo, a suburb of Moscow. He was found with a gunshot wound, the committee said. It said the circumstances of his death were being investigated but the “main theory is suicide.” Before he became a minister in May 2024, Starovoit was the governor of the southern Russian Kursk region. While he left the post before Ukraine’s surprise incursion, he was partially blamed for security failures in the Russian region. The dismissal came amid a multi-day disruption to air travel in Russia. Russian Federal Agency for Air Transport said 485 flights were canceled, 88 were diverted and 1,900 were delayed over the weekend and into Monday. The agency said the cancellations were down to “external interference,” without giving any specifics. But the Russian Defense Ministry said more than 400 Ukrainian long-range strikes were intercepted during the same period of time.
  11. Influencing the weather over localized areas on our wonderful flat earth.
  12. What is new is the massive influx of newcomers and visitors within that demographic over the past 10 years or so.
  13. @RamjetFDO are they really going to pull this shit?
  14. Somebody ask Grok about Jimmy the Greeks comments.
  15. So I’m a bit of an expert on the San Gabriel, at least for a few hours this morning. Got a call from a relative who lives in one of the flooded RV parks, that the Georgetown police had knocked on her door and told her to GTFO. Wife and I drop kids at friends down the street, head up there in our minivan, expecting to quickly empty much of her RV into it, well at least the important stuff. We get there, water is way up, she’s not leaving because either her RV goes or she doesn’t. She’s got two small dogs and we had them ready to go, but she’s pissed. The hitch in my minivan is good for small boats, kayak trailer, smaller uhaul trailers and bike racks. I’m not driving down into muddy/rocky area and trying to tow an RV that will tax my van - my van is worth more than her RV. Thankfully a friend in the area came through in minutes, got her RV towed to a local school and we moved her and her car up from the park. That shit came up so fast though. There were RVs that had bad wheels or problems or whatever that couldn’t get towed in time. I counted at least a dozen in one small section, which given that I know a few of them, that is their home, so it’s got to be devastating, TLDR: Georgetown PD (or whatever law enforcement agency it was) did good work and got people evacuating. San Gabriel came up really fucking fast. On, and if you live in an RV, don’t own a fucking sedan, own a truck or SUV that can pull said RV instead of relying on family and friends of family to drive up from Central Austin to help you out.
  16. So I half expected something like this today Musk: We happen to have a few CyberTrucks on hand, and we have a lot of CyberTruck owners in Texas, we are going to Kerr County to do some rescues Kerr County Emergency Management: We appreciate the offer Mr. Musk, but we only want trained first responders operating in the area. Musk: We will still send some CyberTrucks that you will use. Kerr County Emergency Management: Again, Mr. Musk, we appreciate the offer, but in many areas, power is out, and there is a massive amount of rain still forecast. We looked into it and your CyberTrucks may be liked by their buyers, but we have concerns about their suitability in wet conditions and with their heavy weight, they may become more easily stuck in muddy areas. Musk: Pedophiles.
  17. A lot of investors probably have no clue about the carbon credits and tax breaks stuff. I’ve known multiple people who bring up how successful Tesla is and I tell them that a big driver of that is the American people giving them tax breaks and other companies buying the credits and they get confused..
  18. What did you do to piss them off?
  19. Shit, if things keep going the way they are going with AI and everything else, you might be able to get real Americans making cheap shit again.
