  1. Maybe the ex CEO of AT&T? The guy who headed up Southwestern Bell?
  2. He has to be the dark horse favorite. He will either shoot 64 today or flame out after a torrid start.
  3. Many of my friends houses are owned by LLCs due to the Augusta rule. They then have “corporate retreats” in their own homes. Richer than me so I don’t know all the details. Except my lifelong friend who actually lives in Augusta, she and her husband use the $100K/ week Masters revenue to fund renovations and expansions. She covered her kids college expenses many years ago and now they just keep redecorating.
  4. Or my daughter’s sorority sisters. Bound and determined not to be that guy.
  5. That drive on 17 was 50 yards further than the next longest, if I read that graphic correctly. 87 yards left on his 2nd shot.
  6. How do they get the ruffled Azaleas to bloom at the perfect time each year? The ones in the foreground of the camera shots have to be potted or planted the morning of. My street in SETX was Masters-ready exactly 3 weeks ago. Those of you who have been IRL, are they all just perfectly bloomed? Fatrick just keeps packing on that weight. So noticeable now that he is rarely on my usual golf telecasts.
  7. My college roommate played against Phil junior golf through high school, and at night when everyone else was cutting up and trying to get people to buy them cases of beer, Phil was in his hotel room, with a legal pad, replaying every shot he had hit that day, taking notes and strategizing the the next day. Dude was on a whole other mental level. I played a round with all the Lake Highlands golfers class of ‘90 at Royal Oaks and was in a foursome with Justin Leonard, about a month before he went to UT and he was so focused it was like he was playing alone. IIRC he shot like a 65. He was pleasant enough, but it was understood “all you chuckleheads are going to play juco golf, I’m out to win.” Whole other level.
  8. So we’re calling it a “salon” now? I kid, I kid. If y’all see an amber alert go out in a few minutes, it’s because my wife made it so, but she is protecting a kid from a PCP addled parent. Angel dust! I just learned about LEO’s ability to use AI to spot license plates, and it is spooky good.
  9. Traded to a warmer destination?
  10. Good gal you got there. My ex was a childhood Neiman Christmas catalog model and it caused me years of pain and distrust. One time she was driving in her new leased Benz and had me reach into the backseat to fetch her purse. I picked it up and commented “holy shit this leather is soft. Wtf is this skin made of, butter?” she was silent. Later on I found out it was a $13K authentic Cartier her mom had bought for her. I'd imagine nowadays she is probably begging Hermes to sell her a Birkin. I had to pee so I went to neimans a month ago and saw Tom Ford was selling ugly 1970s Nike knockoffs for $990. At least the bathroom was free. My kid is frugal as hell too. I told my 2nd wife when I got a 6 figure commission check I'd take her to Louis Vuitton and buy her choice of purse. She got on Facebook marketplace and bought a replica for $100. I can't tell the difference. She is most definitely not extravagant.
  11. You know what would make for great entertainment? Courtroom testimony where witnesses were hooked up to a polygraph, with a big “truth-o-meter” screen on a big flat panel mounted in front of the witness stand. I'd watch that shit.
  12. for those of you with copper sinks in your houses, do you keep them polished like a bright, new, shiny penny? Or do you let them age? My new house has a hammered copper 50/50 sink in the kitchen, and a very ornate hammered copper with what can best be described as a vine with leaves pattern in my bathroom. on days when my wife or housekeeper polishes them with barkeepers Friend, they look really awesome for about one hour. Then the oxidation begins, and after a day or two, they look dark and splotchy. i’m assuming that if I just let them go wild and use dish soap and warm water to clean off food residue then eventually it will take on the patina of an old penny. Is anybody here in the same boat?
  13. I spent too much time in telecom, but I had an engineer who would put these on all the network gear cabinets where hopefully all the unconnected optical ports were covered.
  14. So are the Toobin books safe for work? His penis didn't make an unexpected appearance into the photo gallery portion, right? I should probably act like a grownup and read his books.
  15. I was having lunch with Terrence McNally’s brother yesterday and he got a text from his BIL Tom Kirdahy “started filming Kiss of the Spider Woman with J-LO this week” so that was super cool. A film adaptation of the musical.
  16. I waltzed into Tumi last week and bought my first new computer backpack in 10 years and felt guilty spending the money. Then I did a mental tally of my wife’s annual purse spend and felt much better.
  17. So thanks @mdmost for turning me on to the book. I think we share a favorite genre.
  18. Finishing Hymn of the Republic now. Csb/ one of my closest friends great great great grandfather was Howell Cobb, in fact I knew/know 3 generations of men with his name, the oldest of whom was a WW2 fighter pilot, a UT Law grad, and later a federal judge. He married my FIL and his 2nd wife. I had heard the story from my buddy but was understandably surprised to see it chronicled as an example of Sherman’s destruction.
  19. Wow, they sure buried the Lead; it turns out the guy stole a bunch of stuff, kicked a cop, and ended up with a dozen charges.
  20. Good stuff. My work BFF who is in the program was at an event with another employee from our Seattle office and they ordered club sodas and a quick “Hey, do you know my friend Bill?” usually gets a knowing nod. And now there are 3 of us out of several hundred thousand employees. Funeral for my buddy today. The cathedral was PACKED and at least a hundred others were in an overflow room. 700 people is probably a low estimate. I got there a half hour early and had to sit on the back row. The only bright spot was seeing people I hadn't seen in 34 years who flew in from around the country for the service. My first impulse was to take a photo of the throng and text it to him in heaven and say “Hey dumbass, look how much you and your family are loved!!” I feel like such an asshole for typing that. This marks the 3rd suicide I've been close to since June of ‘23. I'm really getting weary of that dreadful feeling that accompanies the memories. So, powerlessness over people places, and things.
  21. My wife is a closeted hoarder. I even saw a bag from Shein or whatever that cheap Chinese merchandiser is last week. My ex-wife and her mom were hoarders too, but their shit came from Neiman Marcus. So, progress? I had to take a piss at Northpark mall last week and visited Neimans for the first time in 20 years, and as I passed by the table in Mermaid Grill where, between bites of a Duke of Windsor sandwich, my old friend and celebrity attorney Roy Black attempted to convince me to not marry #1 without an ironclad prenup, I spotted this.
