  1. Today's theme is going to be Tim Burton. Just started Beetlejuice (the only one they've seen). Then Edward Scissorhands. Then Big Fish.
  2. Jesus was a good guy. He didn't need this shit. Don't go yet, John. We still need you.
  3. Who the fuck is this guy??? Yeah, he's not quoting literature and shit, but he's doing a pretty fucking amazing job explaining all this shit on an understandable yet sophisticated level. I'll take exception with some of things he says, but overall, he's as good as my best basic sciences profs (albeit not as dirty or quite as outlandishingly entertaining as Frank Kretzer). What a great educator. But for fuck's sake, turn yer damn hat around!

Not virus per se, but if you want creepy, eerie...
  5. That reminds me of my elementary school daydreams of being locked in the mall overnight with the arcade and the candy store doors left open.
  6. Absolutely watching that when I get home from my shift tonight. Silverthorne was awesome.
  7. Separate incidents? So @Anastasis, evidently I ordered a case of Fever Tree tonic from Amazon that arrived today. Don't quite know how that happened... How many gin and tonics a day to reach equivalent efficacy? 🤔
  8. Tapped my Irish red last night for a quiet St. Patty's at home. I've got about 20+ gal of homebrew on hand, so I should be good for at least the next 10 days or so.
  9. Great thead idea. I still gotta work until I get quarantined, but the wife and kids are off for at least a couple weeks. Here's my current pandemic-prioritized watchlist (with 12 and 15yo boys): Finish up what we've started: M*A*S*H* Cheers As much Simpsons as the pandemic will allow We've worked our way up to Diamonds are Forever in the James Bond films Finish off what we haven't seen in the Pink Panther movies New stuff: World's End The Dead Don't Die Revisit: Shaun of the Dead Zombieland 1&2 WWZ (yes, the book is better and we've all read it) Alien/Aliens Open for more suggestions. I'm sure I've left stuff off, but this is a hurriedly made list. Hope I make it through it before I succumb.
  10. Still catching up on this thread, but does anyone have any insight on why the UIL decided to suspend events 3/16 instead of sooner? I ask because my kid's team is in a USSSA baseball tournament this weekend (well, my kid won't be), and evidently that is the rationale for it not being cancelled. I mean, besides USSSA valuing money over all else.
  11. My boys' heads nearly exploded when they watched the Mister Sparkle episode, as I have a propensity to respond, 'There's your answer, Fishbulb,' whenever they piece together the solution to some conundrum. It also explained to them why, when I said that to them on a whitewater rafting trip a couple years ago, the guide almost fell in the river laughing.
  12. I'm at the Anatole for a conference and was pleased to find Peticolas in walking distance, as I've read about it on here but never been around to try it. It's amazeballs, like barleywine heaven. Is Pegasus good, or anything else nearby worth checking out? Otherwise, I'm just coming back here for the next couple nights.
  13. This could also go in the Surly Dad thread, but I've been keeping a list of movies to be sure to watch with my boys as they get bigger. It's been a blast for me to revisit some great films I haven't seen in a while, and to watch their reactions. Last night was Miller's Crossing with the 14yo. Such a damn good movie, and it was fun to watch it twist his head into a pretzel. It's awesome to watch someone's first reaction to the Danny Boy shootout scene.
  14. I never did follow up on our trip -- thanks to all for the great advice. Pretty much everything we did was awesome. @mdmost I don't know what your kids are into, but here are the things my boys (14 and 11 at the time) liked the most (and still frequently talk about): -- Surf lessons from Coronado Surfing Academy. Our instructor could have been Seth Rogen's brother and was awesome with the boys. They had a great time. -- Point Loma tide pools and Cabrillo National Monument. They loved the critters in the tide pools and the view of the naval ships and planes from the top. -- Padres game was a huge hit. -- USS Midway was great, but I was surprised how much they liked the Maritime Museum. The old Soviet sub is cool. -- They are well seasoned in going to brewpubs, but they really liked the Stone Bistro, especially goofing around in the bocce ball court. Could have hung around this area more. -- They liked Donut Bar so much we had to go back one more time on the way to the airport. -- Had a great time eating sushi at Shino. We're not sophisticates, but it was near our hotel and had good ratings so we tried it out. The chef (Kevin) was super cool with my boys and got them to try all kinds of shit. Great meal. -- They also really loved eating at Ironside and Crack Shack. It was a great trip for kids that age. We're going to do another dude trip this summer, and I'll probably let them decide between going back or trying somewhere new like Portland.
  15. This is awesome. Wife is a State grad, so I've loosely paid attention to them in the past, but now I think I'm more excited about this hire than I am our coordinators.
  16. Had to work this evening and missed the game, but enjoying catching up. See you on the other side, assholes.
  17. ... when HEB is open. These used to be Central Market branded. They belong in the HEB thread, too -- they are outfuckingstanding.
