  1. Nice boat. When do I get invited out?
  2. Jesus. With an outboard motor?
  3. Something has stuck with me for a long time, but for some reason it just popped back into my head and it got me into some deep thoughts on the matter. Many years back, I was talking to one of the older attorneys in my firm. I'd say she was in her late 50s or so. I referred to someone in the district clerk's office as a girl (e.g., "one of the girls in the office is pulling that for me") and she corrected me by saying "women, one of the women is working on it." I took her meaning. I guess it can comes across as ... belittling? chauvinistic? derogatory? something like that. I wouldn't say "one of the boys in the office is pulling that for me." I'd say "one of the guys..." But "boys and girls" are the common word pairing. Same with "men and women" or "ladies and gentlemen." But for guys, I guess it's "guys and gals?" I would never say "one of the gals over there is helping me." That sounds way worse. In a formal setting, like if I was in court, I think I'd say "one of the women" but I'd still say "one of the guys" if referring to a man. I think "guys" is generally acceptable in both a casual and formal context. I can't picture myself ever saying "one of the men in the office," but that's technically the equivalent word. Anyway, so my random thought on the matter: "Is there even a casual, female equivalent to "guys"? If not, is "girls" actually derogatory or offensive in every context when referring to an adult female?
  4. I bought an antique MacGregor putter at Hancock golf course back in the 70's so this hits close to home
  5. So many random thoughts about this story. That’s a pretty good distance away from the guard both to the street. Coming back a second time, probably because nobody returned fire the first time, sounds like kids going home and bragging about it, somebody calling their bullshit, and tagging along with them for a second pass. How do they know the shooters have no connection to the military if they don’t know who the shooters are. Our police carry assault rifles all the time. Our military base security only carries 9mm? Even after they allegedly added additional security personnel following the first shooting?
  6. The Piranha franchise always has some grade-A nude scenes
  7. I got that reference. First time it came on, my wife just said to me: "nobody has ever landed their dream job in Ohio."
  8. They’re between $4-$8k a piece. Sounds pretty damn cheap to me considering they can probably carry a lot of explosive material. I like to picture it walking into a building with a stack of anti-tank mines on its back, reaching around to grab one, setting it on the ground, and then stepping on the pressure trigger.
  9. Don’t kink shame, bro
  10. Wait. Wut?
  11. Dude. Pounds per square inch. There’s like 20 square inches in that tire, and the recommended level is 35 PSI. Those tires weigh 700 pounds when inflated.
  12. It really is awful. This far into the match, I still keep catching myself almost root for Germany. Neither uniforms make sense unless the camera is zoomed in on our ladies, but from a distance (as the majority of the match is viewed) it'd be better if they just switched uniforms entirely.
  13. Galveston to Austin ~3.5 hours Galveston to Baton Rouge ~4.5 hours Galveston to College Station ~2.5 hours Can't imagine travel time is that big of a factor when looking at these three. It would certainly eliminate Oregon and USC though
  14. That’s an interesting point that’s been on my mind for some time now. After the first few months of watching drones dropping grenades, I got pretty desensitized to the violence. But at some point, it started to shift back. I think I needed to be desensitized first before I could really process my thoughts on the overall aspects of war. I came to a very simple, and obvious, conclusion. It’s absolutely crazy that one person can just decide to star a war that causes so much death, destruction, and pain for so many people. That so many of that person’s citizens just go along with it when they have no desire to be there is fascinating, for lack of a better word. I understand going to war when you’ve been attacked and your family is threatened. But just because the leader of your country tells you to? And that’s been happening throughout history. It’s all so … pointless.
  15. Absolutely. I’ve taken the balls off many a billy. Also wrestled plenty to the ground when they disagreed. But I’m in a tree shooting at the hog. And I’m running blindly while shooting wildly behind me if there’s a bear
  16. The “yet” at the end of this post is carrying a lot of weight
  17. Just use the horns up. Most of em are either from here or train here!
  18. That thread birthed so many surlyisms. Tites, both tacos (which I use IRL almost every time someone mentions tacos), naoch… what else am I forgetting?
  19. A lot of y’all owe Rodman an apology for the mean things you said here this morning
  20. Feels like Japan has 2-3 extra players on the pitch. We’re so slow and predictable it’s amazing they don’t have more steals
  21. Probably by being really good at it
  22. Ok. So then my understanding was correct. We aren’t guaranteed a spot yet
  23. Even then, China has the ability to add 6 more points (though that would likely drop Serbia behind us), and we only have the chance to add 3 more. Seems like the math could work out where China and Serbia could both finish ahead of us, especially if we don’t get all 3 from France. But let’s say us and China both get 3 from France. Then they’d only need 1 from Serbia to tie us in points
  24. Guess I don't understand the point system. How are our women "guaranteed" into the next round with this win? Is it just because everyone knows France is terrible? If we somehow managed to lose to them, and they beat us in straight sets, they'd get 3 points and be tied with us, wouldn't having the H2H win put them over us? Also, if China beats the Serbs there's a few scenarios where they could be tied with us (and have the H2H win) or outright ahead of us. We only have 1 point over China with an extra match under our belt. They could be up on us 5-3 after they play France, then wouldn't we also need 3 points against France? I don't see how this is guaranteed other than assuming we get 3 points against France...but assumptions aren't guarantees. Can somebody educate me?
  25. Hobo freight takes the cake on shitty tools but damn, common sense isn't that common nowadays. I wouldn’t use a jack from there, but when you have a weird project and need a specific tool you’ll never use again? You can’t beat HF
