  2. My dad grew up in ft worth and went to angelos recently when he was in town to meet up with an old friend... said it was worse than any of the normal east Texas fare he has. I’ve been to panther city and it was very very good. Walked by heim last weekend and it looked like a really cool spot.
  3. We left Santa biscotti and scotch. My moms family left a BLT and a Budweiser. Trying to decide what were going to leave with my kids but we’ve got some big shoes to fill.
  4. My family owns a small restaurant that I grew up working in in every facet of the business. I’m pretty damn lenient about almost anything in a restaurant as long as the food is good, but having a bad attitude/giving shitty service is something that’s just an automatic deal breaker for me. Too many places out there that are happy to serve their goods with a smile and pleasant attitude.
  5. That’s just such a shitty attitude to have for someone in the service industry. Sure fire way to get me to never go back to an establishment.
  6. Sorry to break up the circle jerk but is Vincent Neil Emerson a thing in here? I like this dude a lot, and he just came out with a single that to me just gets Texas. Good guitar, fiddle, and accordion too.
  7. We have a ton of awesome restaurants in Houston. Starting this thread not to talk about the places you’ll go to on a lazy Friday/Saturday for TexMex or whatever. I want to hear about some of the places y’all like to go and really enjoy the food/service/wine, date nights, whatever. Some examples: Hugo’s: probably my favorite restaurant in this city. Just always have a really fun time there and love the food. Honestly any of that group’s restaurants could be listed here. Helen’s in Rice Village: Love Greek food and wine, very cool spot (especially once covid shit is over/pre-covid) Field & Tides: reminds me of my family’s restaurant that I grew up in. Neat spot, and I’ve loved every meal I’ve ever had there. Just some examples. whatchall got?
  8. Driving back to Houston Sunday I stopped at the whataBurger in Hutchins off 45. The wait was kinda long but damn if it wasn’t the hottest, freshest whataBurger I’ve had in years. #2 mustard Mayo grilled onions and japs, no tomato. I mean, just goddamn it was good. I’m going to remember that location for the future.
  9. I pitched Carshons deli but my parents were wanting a burger and a beer so we went over to 7th street. I’d been to magnolia street tavern a few years ago and thought it was a cool place, but unfortunately they were closed. Don’t know if that’s permanent or what but it looked a little neglected. We just walked over to Shaw’s - my dad wanted some spice so we got the three alarm burgers. They seemed to be hit by the understaffing going on in a lot of places, but their back patio was neat and the burger was spicy so I’m not complaining.
  10. My freshman year at UT a buddy found a certain Chicotski’s ID in the street and gave it to me. Even though he was a few inches shorter than me and Jewish, it worked every time. Showed my dad one Christmas break since the guy was from FW and apparently he grew up going to their meat market or whatever it was all the time. Carshons might just be the spot.
  11. Or you could just give me some good lunch spots? As long as it’s not Tex mex I’m open to suggestions. I live in Houston and never really come up this way.
  12. I’m in town for a wedding with my parents. My dad grew up here but doesn’t get to come back very often. Staying at the Renaissance downtown... where should I take them to lunch tomorrow? Not confined to this area but my parents are in the restaurant biz and I want to give my dad good options.
  13. I don’t even want to know what that QA/QC process looks like
  14. I mean, it’s not just your Westlake or other suburban kids either. Even 12+ years ago when I was in HS kids being barred out was pretty prevalent, even in bumfuck east Texas... doctors kids, truck drivers kids, whatever. I’ve never touched the stuff but the fact that it’s happening so frequently is scary as hell. I’m glad it wasn’t the case back then or I’m sure I’d have a few more dead friends than I already do. It should spook the shut out of anyone that’s into party drugs.
  15. Mcintyres, drift, bungalow are all a block or so from each other on like 19th and Beall and I’d say they trend 20-30 age. If I were right out of college and in the heights those places would be in the rotation. Mcintyres has a shitload of TVs for game watching but the douche factor can be high (no worse than anything on Washington though). Heights bier garten is a cool spot, they also have a liquor bar attached. I’m 30 and married so my priorities may be different from yours, but I’ve been to almost all the bars listed so far and they all have good qualities. I’m not out trolling for puss though so take it fwiw.
  16. Lots of shit is getting laced/contaminated with fentanyl these days apparently.
  17. He can be all of those things and still come off as a smarmy douche.
  18. Is it any better than whataburger spicy ketchup?
  19. After a couple just ok attempts, I left a little bit more fat on than usual which probably contributed to this, but it wasn’t a crazy amount of fat. Mostly it just seemed more stable when I put the meat side down to cut and didn’t fall apart. Could’ve also been that I just needed to sharpen my knife a little more.
  20. Also, let’s be real: Luka being a pg makes this a much more attractive spot to land FA than in years past IMO. The fact that he’s what, 21? Make it even more appealing. He’s going to make a lot of other players a lot of money in his career. Dirk was the GOAT in Dallas, but I could see how it would be more appealing to plan with someone like Luka
  21. Scotch is disgusting. East Mac is strictly for the poors Bleu cheese is the devils semen solidified. Bleu cheese dressing is straight up the devils jizz. Wings are better with ranch or nothing at all.
  22. Here’s another question for y’all... last time I did a brisket I cooked it fat down and it was far superior to any other brisket I’ve done. Do y’all then flip it to cut so the fats on top? It fucked up my presentation but cutting with fat down was damn near impossible.
  23. Always been curious about this place. They don’t take reservations, right? How big of a bitch is it to get a table there on a Friday or Saturday night?
  24. Honestly, why do y’all still watch this shit? I’m 30, and the good SNL stopped happening before I went to college. I’ve seen skits on YouTube sometimes and the occasional episode but I’d never make it a point to actually watch. None of these people are that funny, and they almost all seem like gigantic bitches
  25. Damn. Turned this on 15 minutes ago thinking I’d be switching the channel soon. What a quarter for SHSU
