  1. About 20 years go, my then-BIL used to breed pits and he used them for hog hunting. He gave a pup to my then-SIL, who lived with my wife and I. She was a flake and left the dog to us when she moved out. The dog was sweet, a buckskin colored female. I got another one (blue brindle male) so she could have a playmate that she couldn't just tear apart. He was great, too. One day, my sister came over and brought her 2 young kids (9 & 8 or so). Kids were running around the yard, doing kid shit. Then I see my sweet female look at my nephew in a way I'd never seen her look before. She started barking at him. Told the kids to GTFO the yard and back in the house. I never let them around a kid again and found them new homes when I decided to have kids of my own. Both of those kids turned out to be huge losers. Maybe the dog knew what was going to happen and those barks were her way of warning them to get their shit together?
  2. About 20 years ago, I had a couple of friends each get married and the church (NOT the couple) did the "Pass the Boot" thing at both of the weddings. People could drop in however much cash they saw fit to give. They went to the same church (kind of a strange one) and it's sort of a thing there.
  3. Went to a fish fry last night, ate a shit-ton of the stripers we caught at Texoma a couple of weeks ago. Sat by the fire pit and listened to music and just hung out, laughed our asses off. Had a blast.
  4. No, I have insurance and I'm not looking to get out of paying the bill or even trying to slow-play it. I just don't get the idea that they can charge interest, I've never had that happen before. Maybe there's some fine print in the admission paperwork you sign when you first get there?
  5. This is what I used to do, 20 years ago. I'd get a bill, then go to the accounts payable people and tell them I could afford $50 a month. They said fine. But after I got out of the hospital last year and tried this, they said I'd have no interest for 12 months, then they start charging interest. I don't know how that's possible, when I didn't sign any loan paperwork. My wife had to do the calling, so I wasn't able to ask that question.
  6. I spent 5 days in the hospital in October. Just the room bill was over 29k, I don't even want to know about the doc's or the ER stuff. After insurance, my share was $2900 and I thought I got lucky it was only that much.
  7. Oh, I can find some, but they're more than 1000 miles away. Things get sold before I can make a move.
  8. Maybe I'm just yelling at clouds but dammit, I can't find a second gen Camaro/Firebird for a price that's anywhere close to my budget. They're either total trash or it's just borderline trash for an outrageous price. I just want something I can drive home for under 10K. Judging from the listings I've seen, I need to move to California or Michigan.
  9. There was a Kuykendall that was the DA in Norman, OK for a few years. You must have some sooner blood in you. Shame.
  10. Isn't this just more blatant homophobia???? /s
  11. You could take him belt shopping. Just north of TF is Pauls Valley. They have the Toy and Action Figure Museum. I've never been but I've always wanted to go, just for the nostalgia. He might think it's cool. An hour north of TF, there is the Museum of Osteology. Has complete skeletons of almost any animal you can think of. My kids thought it was pretty neat. The gift shop has cool stuff as well.
  12. Holy shit, this annoys me to no end. Every episode has an ad at the front for one of their original shows. I'm already paying for the service, leave me the fuck alone! I'll watch your show if I feel like it.
  13. From what I can recall, they were all furloughed last year, as the venues were closed due to covid. During this time, they decided to switch to a cashless system, presumably to avoid touching cash and potentially getting infected. Could the bigwigs have also wanted to stop any skimming from the till? I imagine so but covid was the reason they gave to the employees. So far, it's not going well.
  14. IMO Maiden doesn't get enough love. I always had a few of their tapes in my '86 Ford Tempo when I was in high school.
  15. The way it works here is, you can carry into a business, even if they have a sign in the window. If they see that you're carrying (concealed or open) and demand that you leave, you have to do so immediately.
  16. My wife's company runs a bunch of bars and they just switched over to a cashless system. Now all of the bartenders don't want to come back to work because no cash means they won't get the same level of tips as before (or they can't fudge the numbers in the till). They aren't making just 2.13/hr either. They've been scrambling to hire some bartenders from temp agencies to get by.
  17. I fucking jinxed myself. Went out with the wife tonight, saw a guy open carrying as he stood in line to get into a shoe store. He looked to be around 30, dressed like a dork. What a douche.
  18. In Oklahoma, we had concealed only (with permit) for a while. The issue was, for example, you bent down to tie your shoe and your shirt came untucked and your firearm was exposed. At that point, you were no longer concealed and had technically broken the law. Then they added open carry. After that, we had permitless concealed as well. Nothing has changed. I've only seen one guy open carry in the 30+ years I've lived here.
  19. No, it won't. We've had this for a few years in Oklahoma and if the people here are as dumb, racist, methed up as most of you say, it would've happened here already. You were right in your second sentence, it will be a nothing burger. Just like the people in Oregon that thought there would be many deaths by people pumping their own gas.
  20. I don't want to speak for anyone else but I'd bet most CCL holders would agree with me: I have zero desire to shoot anyone or even draw my weapon. My only goal would be to GTFO of the situation alive. I'm not trying to shoot 3 guys, I'm trying to make my escape and keep myself/my family safe. If some shit goes down in the 7-11, I'm not going to save the clerk, I'm going for the safest exit. I wouldn't draw down on someone unless I was cornered. I've had my license for almost 3 years, never even came close to needing it but I'm glad I have the option.
  21. Sitting at the table with my kids and their friend, just shooting the shit. The question comes up "What's your favorite fictitious animal?" Wife: "Hmm, a narwhal, I guess?" Me: "Uhh, those are a real thing." Wife: "Really? Oh. Unicorn then." I'm actually proud she had heard the word narwhal and knew it was some kind of animal.
  22. I'd kick that bitch further than she could kick a ball.
  23. Ha, it was a '94 Miata. A neat little car but nothing I'd post pics of in that thread. My wife just got a '20 Mustang convertible, so the Miata became redundant. Why have hamburger when you can have steak, right? I don't miss it at all, I had it for 2.5 years and I sold it for twice what I paid. Thanks, Covid, I guess. And I'm in the OKC burbs, condolences accepted. As usual, I feel a bit better after letting of some steam in here. Thanks to everyone who take part in this thread, you guys are the shit.
  24. I'm letting things add up and weigh on me. Why? I KNOW it doesn't have to be like this. I am allowing my job to affect my peace of mind. I thought I was over this shit for a few years, I don't know why I'm all of the sudden falling into this trap that I made for myself. I want to let shit roll of my back but I can't. I was doing so well with that, too. My brother-in law's sudden passing in January is still heavy on my mind. It's making me think back to my mother's sudden passing, 14 years ago. I spent a week in the hospital last fall and now, every time I have an ache or pain, I just assume that my time is up, just like Mom and BIL. WTF? I just feel overwhelmed, I don't even know how to have fun anymore, it seems. I sold my project car last week, I was pretty much done with it and it was just sitting there in the driveway. Now I want something else but I can't find what I want, or I find something way out of my budget and I just want to give up and never bother trying to do anything. My poor wife tries to be supportive but I know she's at a loss. I just want to run down the street as fast as I can, yelling like a viking berserker. I'm angry and scared. I don't know why.
