  1. I'll relay this story from my divorce attorney: A long time ago he represented a guy who was convinced his wife was cheating on him, and he wanted to hire a private investigator to tail her. So the attorney arranges for a PI, and sure enough, the PI photos the wife and her high school boyfriend walking out of a hotel. The client confronts his wife with the photos, and she immediately breaks down crying, confesses, and begs for forgiveness. The client tells this to his attorney and asks, "Now what should I do?" The attorney says, "Maybe try forgiving her." The client takes his advice, and my attorney says that every year on their anniversary the client texts him to let him know that he and his wife are still married and to thank him for the advice. When my attorney told me that story he said it had been about 10 years since the affair, so that couple still kept going for a while. My attorney told me that story during my divorce in the context of reconciliation, but he didn't push it, and if you know my harrowing tale from the other thread, you understand why that couldn't happen. I think a lot of divorce attorneys counsel the possibility of reconciliation, and that's a good thing. But my hunch is that very few couples stay together after one of them hires a lawyer and/or files for divorce. @hornian, any ballpark estimates on the percentage of your clients who reconcile?
  2. In 20 years we’ll still be talking about Now This.
  3. Worldwide is fucking today.
  4. When my daughter started kindergarten at Highland Park in 2010, we heard that a ridiculously low percentage of fifth graders were going to Lamar (I recall 25%, but my memory could be exaggerating). We figured it would be either Kealing or St. Theresa’s for middle school. But by the time she was in fifth grade it seemed like 80% of the kids were going to Lamar. It was pretty impressive how Lamar improved so much and drew the parental support from the Highland Park community. It turned out to be a pretty great middle school experience for both our kids, and I fear this latest issue with Dobie, along with mother fucking vouchers, are going to cause more parents to forgo Lamar like so many used to.
  5. Well I wonder what it’s like to be Superhero.
  6. Corporations are people!
  7. Have you told them they’re still getting vouchers?
  8. Are you saying Jesus Christ can’t hit a curveball effectively run a DA’s office?
  9. I got that message also. My youngest is an eighth grader at Lamar, so I won’t have a kid directly impacted by this, but it still sucks all around. I’m just hoping he gets through the next four years at McCallum with as little fuckery from our shitty state as possible, and then goes off to college out of state like his sister.
  10. First, they made a roux hired DeShaun Foster as their head coach . . . .

Not that guy. I was referring to my Mexican friend Jesus (pronounced Hey-soos) Humberto Christo. He loves bacon and would be massively offended by Deej's comment.

  17. My concern with Luke is that if he commits to us he might waffle.
  18. There have been some dumbass and batshit crazy folks elected to Congress recently, but she's risen to the top of both the AP and coaches polls.
