  1. With my job I have to answer my mobile even when an incoming number isn’t in my contact list. Most of these calls are telemarketers or scams. In the past scammers always have some thick accent. Lately the scammers have zero accent. Either they’re teaching American accents across the world now, or we’re onshoring the scamming business back to America. Or perhaps it’s an AI voice.
  2. It may not be banned at Bob Jones but that’s a far cry from being acceptable.
  3. Trumps bans international students from Harvard. https://www.cnn.com/2025/05/22/us/harvard-university-trump-international-students I can't wait to see the next Democrat President decide that Liberty Universit or Bob Jones University is against the law and must close. Of course, the Left would do that in the first place. EDIT: I wonder if they will make a carve-out for Afrikanner students escaping the white genocide in South Africa, or any and all Qatari students.
  4. There's a false narrative that there's a Texas Democratic Party. Obviously they exist but do they do anything but work to keep themselves in the minority? If they were secretly run by a GOP operative, would the outcome be any worse?
  5. It doesn't take much to interpret that actions by Abbott and Goeb are solely about keeping the GOP in power in the face of changing demographics. Even the school voucher program might harm some of their constituency, there is an element to have kids educated in private schools that can be openly hostile to actual history and liberal ideas. The top priority is always about keeping Democrat stronghold (youth, non-white, and big city) votes as suppressed as possible.
  6. While I don't agree with many of Barrett's opinions, from my non-trained legal perspective, but I give her credit that she actually does appear to consider the case in front of her. Unlike Alito or Thomas who only look to see the conservative view and then shape their opinion to further their viewpoint. I would guess that many MAGAts and Trump are disappointed in Barrett. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think that Alito or Thomas would recuse themselves in any case these days, unless they were 100% sure their side had a sizable court victory. Even then they would issue an opinion. Not that this would seem possible, but if Thomas personally argued a case in front of the SCOTUS, he would still participate in the vote.
  7. Trump is turning the Oval Office into some weird apprentice set. Bring people in to insult them, and force his team to sit there as the live audience. I don’t think we’re far off that world leaders will just avoid him.
  8. I always forget about the scooter problem Austin has until I visit. Houston doesn’t have them unless someone personally owns a scooter.
  9. Are any major news orgs covering her accusations either thru their story or mentions by their talking heads? Mace may be insulated from defamation while physically in Congress but that doesn’t mean other outside of it are.
  10. I assume that Musk will need to undercut Uber by a wide margin or fully overload Austin will the robotaxis in order to gain real volume.
  11. Crazy that Biden last had a PSA screening test in 2014. I know that some cancer screenings are not recommended for older folks but the president isnt a normal patient. and for anyone that hasn’t had one, a PSA is only an additional test on the blood that is already taken. The doctor only needs to check an extra box and there is a slight (<$50) cost to someone.
  12. It wouldn't surprise me if many of "victims" may have also obtained their wealth thru shady means as well. Who is sitting on $230M and agrees to somehow hand that over to someone you don't know? My guess is that it's someone who doesn't want the govt or legit custodians to know who they are.
  13. If they were stuck in reverse and the tidal current is quickly moving them backwards to the bridge, maybe the only quick option is to increase speed in an attempt to turn around. Speeding up so you can ultimately slow down or get away. While it's not as glamorous of an exit, having 2+ tugboats take you out of the river/harbor/whatever would be the safest. Ships are more in danger in harbors than on the open ocean. Still a lot of facts unknown. On the topic of a Tall Ship parade, major gatherings are rare events. I would love to see one someday.
  14. Democrats have always sucked at short form messages due to the nature of their platforms and ideas. Republicans have their messaging down pat: freedom, low taxes, small govt, protect your guns. The Dem messages struggle to resonate in short bursts. It's why more Dems need to go on long form programming. And if they can't handle that type of interview including some tough questions, we should question if we have the right people. Take Pelosi. I think she was one of the most capable speakers in my lifetime, if not the most capable. But I'm of the opinion that she only speaks with friendly press is because of her and her husband's investments. To my knowledge she never takes questions on it, and that prevents her from going on a neutral or even hostile interview.
  15. I haven’t hit any lifetime or career goals this year but happy that I’ve already recently completed my larger 2025 goals. Things like maxing out my 401k is still out there but I treat that as an expectation and spread it out over all paychecks so that won’t complete until Dec. for the rest of the year I’m looking to increase new car savings so I can pay cash/trade-in for the next car. Hopefully not until ‘27 or ‘28.
  16. Biden is allowed to announce his cancer diagnosis whenever he wants but there is little doubt the timing is tied to the book detailing his cognitive decline over the past few years. And the lack of details regarding his cancer diagnosis, which is also his right to withhold, just are adding to the speculation that he’s hid more health problems from the public. as usual Biden advisors and/or his current instincts are poor. wish the guy the best but a leader is fair game for criticism in how they deal with the public. If they want to be a private citizen, then stay a private citizen.
  17. Did Trump say this? I assume that HHS and the surgeon general will release a new requirement this week that cancer now has 9 stages and failure of the healthcare systems to use the new terminology will be met be harsh penalties.
  18. At least she's still dead. One less terrorist in the world
  19. I've long thought the welcome to the big leagues moment will be when employers start to allow employees to buy bitcoin (actual purchase or ETF) with their 401ks. In a sense it will be purchasing an amount of bitcoin and putting it away for decades. That is where the scarcity of btc will come into play with less and less bitcoin for sale. While there are now ~20m bitcoin in circulation with another 1m left to be mined, there are estimates that there are actually closer to 14-15m available. The rest being lost for a variety of reasons. If true, 15m is a small number.
  20. It's never worth getting mad at people on the road. The only time I find my blood pressure going up is when I left late for somewhere I need to be. Now I just accept that I will arrive when I arrive. And if it's that important that I arrive on time, then I leave early. Then if I run into a train crossing or a slow driver at a light, so what.
  21. For Trump, every accusation is a confession. When MAGA talks about corruption, its on a misdirect that they're already following that playbook.
  22. Businesses are always allowed to change their mind given changing conditions, but fairly big deal that Jamie Dimon will allow his customers to buy bitcoin. He was so stauchly opposed to it in the past and he's still expressing his reservations with this announcement. At the time I'm writing, it's unclear exactly what Chase will and won't allow when it comes to buying bitcoin. From the language they may actually allow customers to buy it, but they (Chase) won't be a custodian for you. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/19/jpmorgan-ceo-jamie-dimon-says-the-bank-will-let-clients-buy-bitcoin.html Bitcoin up about $2K on the news today.
  23. in my work environment, I have to interact with both MDs (& DOs) as well as PhDs. I call the medical doctors, Dr. + last name, and the PhDs by their first name. If I were to introduce to them to anyone, I follow the same format. I get the impression that some of the medical doctors could care less if you address them by Dr. but a few do. I don't want to bother trying to remember which ones care and which ones don't. Another issue with non-medical doctorates is that there is a wide range of credibility statuses with those programs. I don't want to get involved into wondering which ones are universally recognized or credentialed and which ones are not.
  24. If Jesus wanted your kids to know about microchips, science or medicine, he would have added it to the Bible.
  25. In listening to some clips from the scotus hearing, I can’t decide if the solicitor general just knows he has an unwinnable case and is just trying to demonstrate some effort to show Trump he’s trying, or he’s just a moron. i think we all agree that a single district judge shouldn’t be able to fully hamstring a president indefinitely, hence we have the appeals and Supreme Courts. Does it mean that court or judge can slow a president? Yep. It’s called being part of a system where one person doesn’t have unlimited power.
