  1. Your reading comp may need some brushing up. Aren't you a teacher? Sad.
  2. We can wish all you want to go back to the 60's and 70's, in every facet of life, but it's not going to happen. The focus has changed, to fighting to protect rights, but promoting marksmanship, safety, and shooting sports is still a thing (half the mag is about 3 gun and random comps, ffs) Their goal it to raise money to fight for gun rights and to lobby, and the boogeymen issues get old scared men off their wallets. Maybe with a particular senator and particular congress critter gone, we'll stop seeing ALL GUNS GONE bills. I have no issue funding again is all I'm saying. I'm sure I'll be buying the new dudes sidepiece rides on a yacht, and I'll pull back out again when that becomes known. Until then, have some $$$ and thank you for protecting our right. I'm bowing out now because I don't want to fuck with this thread. We can agree good riddance to WLP? I lost auction on a .222 I've been dreaming about this week because I got busy at work and I'm salty af about it. Have a good one.
  3. Don't understand why it's not considered that the particular article was pretty fair, and that the rag still is a piece of shit. Unless, there's something else. Fox news probably let's a milquetoast reading sports article out every now and then, don't believe it that would change anyone's views on the publication in general, or cause them to come and throw negs and stan for the publication in a game thread of all places.
  4. Try harder pops. I don't, and have never, carried a firearm in public, concealed or otherwise. Recreational user. ALMOST got me, though.
  5. No, we need someone who will fight senators that think we shouldn't have the rights to own a pellet gun. I couldn't gaf about the NRA that taught how to build a campfire and clean a deer after a hunt with your uncle.
  6. It’s the skin. It’s elastic and they just don’t bleed. I had one unexpectedly show up at the feeder one am and a 100 grain from the quarter bore disappeared it’s insides. But those 100 feet into the brush there wasn’t a single drop of blood I could find, talk about I was nervous. I’m talking heart was liquid when I cleaned her, total pass thru. It’s a weird, rubbery hide. Organs towards the front like plains game. You’d be fine with anything ‘06 and up imo. eta: my advice, get comfortable shouldering and shooting in short order. Not hurried, but smooth and quicker than you’d prefer. Those things are spookiest shits you’ll see down there, and a lot of times don’t linger. Something you’re super comfortable with would go a long way, imo. I know you load and practice etc so won’t be an issue. Just my .02
  7. I’ve saw them hem and haw on a nilgai hunt once, but that was it. It was over a 270 and really due to the skin and lack of a blood trail, not firepower. Guy ended up successfully smoking his bull with his 270, no big deal. I’ve heard in Africa it’s just a no go situation, depending on the animal. But figured enough $$$ could make a difference as I see shorts of Keith Warren (didn’t know he was still alive) shooting all kinds of shit with a fucking air gun and bolt. And Roy W killing all kinds of shit with his .257 wmag, etc.
  8. Lulz. Time to put the bottle away, pops. Alligator mouth overloading a hummingbird ass.
  9. Lol. Yeah. Tiny.
  10. Pretty sure I saw one of the weapons the killer used was a shotgun. Hospital considered me a “multiple gunshot victim” when I was on the wrong end of someone’s negligence once. Would bet it’s the same situation. The hospital also mislabeled the size shot (even though I told the doctor several times, YGIFS here’s your caliber joke tee’d up) and it caused a bunch more confusion at both hospitals. Think I still had 14-15 in me still at the time.
  11. 10000 spoons, and all I need is a knife.
  12. Yeah saw a couple of 3500’s for 110k the other day. Fucking L. O. L. Problem is it’s (been) fucking up the preowned market, too. If you haul heavy, prepare thy anoos.
  13. Keep in mind, there are outfitter that “strongly suggest” a minimum caliber (including the outfit you linked earlier). Typically .30 ((not starting .30 vs 7, I swear) even though .30 is the answer )), similar deal to what you see in Africa with the dangerous game and .375H&H and up.
  14. Qft. Painful setting them up initially (529s, IRA, 401, kids accts, on and on) but like anything else, once you are used to it being a typical deduct, it just becomes the new normal. I’ve been trying to add in an additional mortgage payment every quarter. Got a great rate but want the big note taken care of.
  15. Yes and no. I have been withholding specifically due to not feeling like supporting his girlfriends lifestyle. He’s gone, no more reservations.
  16. Yep. No one had hunted it in forever, apparently. One of the bulls broke its neck during the capture ops, and our mgr split it with another guy. Said the processing was still $1200. Oof. I made something like 35 dozen tamales and a bunch of sausage for about half that a few years ago. If I ever have to leave the lease, I’m using the $$ for a nilgai hunt every other year or so. Such a good hunt and so dang good to eat.
  17. The KR nilgai hunts are a good time. Used to get an invite every other year for either a mgt, then next time a nilgai. Such a cool hunt. There are lots of good outfitters and the population is exploding all over the area now. We have several running around the ranch now. Place south of us right in town just took 90 of them (live) off of 600 ac…
  18. Sounded like he wanted to get away from that rifle for this exercise, or better yet start a legacy with another if you will. My first thought was having a good synthetic stock and some light smithing done to that wby.
  19. Look the bragging between you and @686 is getting to be a bit much on this page. 3 whole mins. Every time?
  20. Oh that definitely opens up the box... I left them off trying to stay within confines of OP budget but should have thrown them in when I mentioned a few other that blew it up. Really nice rifles. Homer drooling emoji
  21. Oh I bet that makes Denver Harris really happy.
  22. Gotcha. Yeah I’ve also read a bit about the recent issues with Bergara, but not too deep into it as I've never been who they’re selling to. Interested in some of the lower end Fierce stuff I’ve seen popping up. I’ve handled 3 of their higher end rifles and they were very nice but way out of stated budget. Don’t have any first hand with seekins but folks seem to love them. Aggy rifle, but supposedly Horizon does some nice work (out of this budget) but I’ve never handled one. OP, another thing for you to consider, that will add another wrinkle (sorry). A good spot and stalk/mountain gun looks different than a safari gun, which may not be same as a blind gun etc etc. People pay thousands to shed mere ounces on mountain rifles.
  23. Anything you can share why? I noticed they seemed to be stacked on the auction sites and seemed to have dropped a bit in price. Thought it may have been just a lesser model I was seeing but it’s more prevalent lately.
  24. Can't help you with the rifle, that's a personal thing. Personally, I'd have a custom 70 action built up and do what you can afford with the barrel and find a stock you like. Would probably tip you on the top end of your budget but you never know. But I'd suggest a 300win for your "all around" chambering. Going to be overkill on your hill country whitetail. You'll be glad you had it on your Nilgai, Elk, Moose etc. Highly adaptable and can feed it a hundred different ways. Sounds like you are about to have one hell of a hunting spree.
  25. Unfortunately, no.
