  1. You do realize that in your example of abbreviations with the same number of syllables as the full phrase the full phrase has more syllables than the abbreviation, right?
  2. Let's re-frame this entire discussion: "Man breaks up with girlfriend to focus on his career" Doesn't sounds so crazy does it? I don't know the story, but the fact that he broke up with her to focus on his money-making ventures indicates to me she was likely beginning to interfere with said ventures. He didn't want the pro-gamer gravy train to be derailed so he kicked her out before she could derail it. If he makes serious money it honestly doesn't even matter what he looks like he'll be able to land a hot replacement girl who is set on proving that she's better than this chick and won't disrupt his career.
  3. I think you guys are getting the mindset backwards to some extent. It's not "if you draw it, always use it" but rather "never draw it unless using it has become necessary, and then don't hesitate." Never pull a gun as an intimidation tactic to try to defuse a situation. Drawing a gun introduces or escalates the threat of death in the situation.
  4. People who don't know how to pick out produce at grocery stores. No, I don't want some dumbass picking out rock hard avocados that I want to use tonight and giving me milk that expires tomorrow.
  5. When someone derails the griddle thread to go on a rant about how "chicken fajitas" is a nonsensical term similar to saying something like "chicken brisket." Fuck you, although "fajita" refers to a specific cut of beef prepared a specific way, adding the modifier "chicken" to it makes the intent very clear: preparing chicken in the same manner that fajitas would normally be prepared. It's not destroying anyone's culture.
  6. So you think eating a burrito on a train is the same as physically assaulting someone, therefore by your inverse golden rule a train burrito bandit should be responded to with physical violence? Gotta give them a taste of their own medicine! Slorch is dumber than Rocko.
  7. This, very much this. They made no attempt to score for most of the game, just passed it around at midfield with their defenders while the rest of the team stood around with no movement at all. Horrifically boring, I guess their plan was for Russia to recklessly run at them leaving their goal undefended?
  8. His point is that you already know the answer, it's the same reason you do the things necessary to continue your own life even though it is a certainty that you will eventually die. You're just being a nihilistic shithead.
  9. Part of the problem with drunk driving is bars that have a sign in their parking lot stating "all cars in this lot will be towed at 3 am." Don't drink and drive, but if you DO drink a little too much you can't take a cab home or we'll fucking tow your shit. It should be illegal for establishments that serve alcohol and have dedicated parking (i.e. not just metered public parking on the street) to tow customer's vehicles that are left overnight.
  10. I picked up some Dunville's recently after a friend recommended it and thought it was pretty damn good. I generally don't have any irish whiskey on hand though, so my opinion might be completely worthless.
  11. I didn't want to pollute the real wine thread with this discussion so I decided to start a new topic dedicated to cheap wines and people who don't know much about wine. I want to start a small collection of relatively inexpensive ($10-$15 per bottle) but still drinkable wine so when I have guests over that are wine drinkers I have something for them that they will at least moderately enjoy but won't cost me a ton of money. I rarely to never drink wine myself, I'm a whiskey person for sure, so I don't know what to look for. I'm looking to get 8-10 bottles of a variety of styles , can someone offer a suggestion of what styles I should stock to cover most wine preferences, as well as a few suggestions for bottles around my target price that an actual wine drinker wouldn't scoff at?
  12. HEB creamy creations or Tillamook, I've enjoyed both. I think I like Tillamook better, but I seem to only be able to get it at Kroger and rarely shop there.
  13. Fuck Blue Bell. Their decision to kill people with listeria caused me to branch out to other ice cream brands, only to realize Blue Bell is really nothing special. I'll never go back to that aggy-run petri dish ice cream.
  14. If someone refuses to vaccinate their kids because they're too stupid to understand what vaccines do and what they don't do it should be sufficient grounds for CPS to take their kids from them.
  15. Which brings me to my next point. I completely fucked up in my last post by saying add 1.5-2 oz bourbon. I almost exclusively use rye, specifically Templeton 4 year aged rye. It's a decent (to me) price under $30 and makes a damn delicious old fashioned. I rarely use it for anything other than mixing old fashioneds.
  16. My personal preference is to toss a sugar cube, bitters, and a maraschino cherry into the glass and muddle the sugar and bitters together (give the cherry a hit or two as well, but don't smash it to pieces). Then, add in your bourbon, 1.5-2 oz. Stir this until the sugar is almost all dissolved (it's OK if you get impatient). Then drop in an ice ball, or ice cubes I guess but the ball doesn't melt as fast so it doesn't water stuff down so much. Delicious.
  17. Intredasting. I may or may not be applying for a mortgage in the next week or so. This may or may not be relevant to my interests.
  18. I feel compelled to state for the record that this post is not referring to me.
  19. If they would put the green chile double on the menu I'd order that every time. They don't, so I settle for a combination of mushroom swiss with japs, #2 with cheese and japs, or avocado bacon double with japs. Always with onion rings.
  20. What's a pensu? I'm apparently not up to speed on current sex jargon.
  21. Thanks for the heads up. The stores I normally go to actually have some right now too, I was just saying in general it seems like it will disappear from shelves for a few months every once in a while. If you know where in Houston I can get some True Blue, on the other hand, I would love that information.
