  1. Are you upset that people have quit interacting with your insane posts over there?
  2. Being prepared is very different than sending in an army of riot police in a highly aggressive stance before the protest even started. The response came nowhere near matching what was a peaceful assembly. I’m assuming you haven’t watched the videos, and that’s okay, but if you had you would have seen no aggression on the side of the protesters. The aggression came from one side and one side only. Video shows protest organizers wearing day glo vests issuing directions to the protesters to clear the way. The way that they were provoked by aggressive cops, I give them a ton of credit to the protesters for not escalating things. The cops arbitrarily left around 7p so there was clearly no actual threat. At that point, some protesters returned to the south lawn and assembled peacefully. Today, without the spectacle and publicity stunt, people once again peacefully assembled on the south lawn. I understand your viewpoint, but in my opinion, the response from UT was way out of whack and actually risked ramping up the crowd into violence which, if you’re cynical, you might think was the intended outcome to score political points in certain circles.
  3. Reminder that the only student hurt or injured on campus in the current unrest is a Muslim student and his companion that were attacked leaving their Mosque. All students need to be protected. It seems like the University is doing a very good job protecting Jewish students.
  4. Classifying anyone that’s not a student an “agitator” is some serious NewsMax brain addled shit. The general public has every right to be on campus. The presence of the general public on campus does not make those individuals agitators. When people start repeating this shit over and over, you know to ignore them.
  5. WN having all their eggs in the 737 MAX bucket is going to make for a painful couple of years until Boeing can get that airplane back on track. WN management might be in the find out stage after forcing Boeing’s hand to produce the MAX instead of a clean sheet design.
  6. My understanding it’s only refunded if you decide to decline the alternative flights offered to you. So, for example, your flight is delayed 6 hours and you say f it, I’m not going, you would automatically get a refund to your original form of payment instead of having to go through the formal refund process and/or accept the refund as a travel credit.
  7. And we all know those backs are highly susceptible to injury.
  8. I thought I was in the Abbott thread.
  9. For the fiscal conservatives and tough on crime crowd, how do you feel about the waste of money and resources on a performative demonstration by law enforcement? Do you think the money and resources could have been to better use in policing the greater Austin community?
  10. Uh oh, Atlanta cop wearing a mask covering his entire face. I’m sure @Frank Drebin will be by shortly to condemn the actions of Atlanta PD.
  11. It’s all relative. If you’ve got Saudi oil sheikh or Russian oligarch money, that kind of money can be found in the couch cushions of your private 747.
  12. Calling Trump frugal is the most ridiculous thing ever. The man has the most garish taste where gold plated and things being yuge equate to classy. He’s not frugal, he’s a deadbeat welcher.

The blatant hypocrisy is a calling card of the current brand of conservative politics.
  14. Too many people in this world think simply in binary terms and can’t discern nuance in complex issues.
  15. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess the same people were singing a different tune when Britney Griner was detained in Russia.

His job is to keep the students, faculty and staff safe from harm. Today, all three were put into an elevated risk due to a militarized response to a peaceful response. The proactive response of coming in hot was meant to escalate the risk of violence, not decrease it. I give the protesters credit for not taking the bait. So, Hartzell knew and put thousands at risk or Hartzell didn’t know and didn’t condemn it. I don’t think either of those is a good look for the president of the state’s flagship university.

I’m not buying that the President of the university was clueless about riot police from the state being sent in. Reading his statement reinforces to me that he knew ahead of time. This was clearly coordinated with UTPD and APD. I don’t believe for a second that DPS picked up the phone and called the chief of police at UT and said “off the record, on the QT and real hush hush we’re going to send in a bunch guys in riot gear tomorrow make sure you don’t tell anyone in administration.” The fact that the official statement is one of pure bootlicking is the icing on the cake. If he truly didn’t know, he could have said something to the effect that he’s sorry that things got escalated, yada, yada. He barely stopped short of calling DPS heroes and throwing up T&Ps for the guy that got bumped into by a journalist doing his job.
  18. Accidentally bumping into someone in a crowded and chaotic situation, especially by a member of the press covering a major story, is not a crime. This photog will never be formally charged with a crime and in the meantime there are going to be a whole lot of journalists in this state pissed off at DPS.
  19. I think the reaction you’re seeing here is in response to you nuking an entire discussion surrounding the biggest story of the day in Austin, perhaps Texas, instead of you moving the posts that you deemed off topic to a new thread. I disagree that it’s off topic, but I can see the argument and would be fine with it if you hadn’t just arbitrarily nuked a bunch of content.
