  1. Someone had boxes of sugar cubes, and we pelted those corps turds closest to us for quite a while while laughing at them. Good times. (Let's not think about the actual sugar bowl...)
  2. Totally agree - this summer I visited a relative who just turned 109. It was tough to see what her life is like, but the staff members we met were amazing. Shoot, they helped care for us during the time we were there not just the folks living there. That said I was speaking more to the broader senior living category where assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing etc. are part of a full suite of services where you can live there for 20 years and progress through stages as needed.. It's all super expensive and some of the places my wife works with have 7 figure buy ins. Insane.
  3. I haven't looked into investing in senior living, but my wife works in the industry. As a consumer there is a massive difference in for profit and non-profit facilities - you want to be in non-profit for sure if you can afford it. They actually spend money on space that can be enjoyed/adds to quality of life as opposed to extracting revenue - profit - out of every square foot. On a few random occasions I've been able to tag along on tours and the difference is obvious. She generally works with the non-profits, and they are expensive as hell. That said, I'm sure there is a lot of money being made in the for profit category.
  4. Does Hawley really qualify as a smart one who knows better?
  5. That is awesome and would easily be an impulse buy if I ran across one.
  6. For what it's worth, I was right there a week before for a Jewish wedding - well, one of the ceremonies associated with it. My nephew (not Jewish, marrying a Jewish woman) was to read from the Torah as part of a "regular" Saturday service. We attended and participated (?) in the full service. At the end it was first announced that there would be a reception for the couple - as part of the normal lunch or whatever they usually had - and THEN they spent 15 minutes talking about precautions that would be taken for the next week. All I am saying is that they knew what what was coming. There were clearly outlined plans for services and their timing, security that would be in place, and even what would be done with their copy of the Torah (it was removed to another location). At the time I thought it was a bit overblown. A week later I saw what happened, and all I could think of was how prepared they were. It may not have been all about the Jews, but torches were carried right in front of that synagogue. They were prepared for what they expected, and they weren't wrong. All the above aside, I hate what's going on, and any peaceful solution >>> what's happening now. I just don't know what that looks like.
  7. We had an amazing experience at Leo last year - what a trip. Oh, and yes - in Bogota. A few random pictures I could find at a moment's notice: ^^^ Every course had a unique set of utensils
  8. One can have their doubts about Coach Prime long term and still acknowledge how big this game was for him and maybe even spend a minute rethinking the whole situation (even if one does not change position). Wait, on second thought, maybe not... no, definitely not.
  9. Not everywhere does it the same - at Scott Stadium they track your alcohol purchases and limit you to 4. There is no way that's gonna be enough for me to watch all their home games this season. As much as I want them to be decent, this team is turrible. /CMB dad
  10. I get that, but I had this impression of Elevation being this sorta regional NC thing and not in a bunch of places where there was a lot of $$$. It was surprising to see that dude on the list of top money preachers, regardless of the number. I guess I'm still not well calibrated on the idea that the grift can be even more effective on those folks without the $.
  11. ho lee fuk I always thought the Elevation people around where I live were a little creepy. I get it now - thanks for the list.
  12. Continuing the aside briefly, I don't expect politicians to be the most moral, upstanding people in the world - far from it. Something drew them to politics, and, to say nothing of the moral failings anyone will exhibit at some point in life, I quite simply I don't believe most are idealists or those who put serving others first. Maybe some start out that way, but I have a tough time believing that it sticks. That said, how about just not showing exemplary leadership in how to be complete ass? ETA: I am speaking very generically here, which is probably not so wise on this particular thread. I do think there are a good number of politicians that are not complete ass... high bar, I realize.
  13. Seriously worried about how fucked over people are going to be because of this. I have been fortunate (even if I was a dumbass up to that point) to realize I was underinsured a couple of times and rectify it before it became a problem. One of those sorta paid off, I was just in time. Anyway, my point is that it's easy to fuck that up without being a total slacker. I am SURE there are a lot of people that are either underinsured or finding out that their local insurance company can't cover it all. (Not a professional, so I don't have much idea what happens after that, but I get the fear/anxiety and how that affects decisions.) I hate the thought that especially these people, under duress, may end up deciding to sign over to the sharks. I know people are needing the essentials right now, but I would also contribute to a fund that would help fight this bullshit in the mid-term to long-term.
  14. Trying to figure out how this measures hand size, but yeah
  15. This suuuuuuuuuucks. Was just there a few weeks ago. One of the canoe clubs just north of Lahaina was hosting races one day and I walked down to watch. Ended up meeting a bunch of locals from around Lahaina and chatting for an hour or so while watching the races. Really cool, friendly guys... thinking about them today.
  16. I hear ya, but if it's a sport(-like thing) then it's just innovation and evolution
  17. I'm a girl dad, yet the fam told me today we should go next year. While a spectacle is always fun, I think they just love George Shea. I, too, dig his entrance announcements. Buffer brothers could maybe take a lesson imo.
  18. Jesus, I should always have my glasses on at this point - I thought the FAFO handle said ImissWallyFairway!
  19. I mean, not that I disagree, but damn. You at happy hour with YGIFS? I guess he'd have some stuff in there about goading her into it within X amount of time, though.
  20. Idk, I for one think it's an intentional consequence. Like anyone could even know that
