  1. thought all them witches was just ok on saturday. a lot of it had to do with the terrible crowd...could not get away from loud talkers, it was like back of stubbs bad. starting to really not enjoy sold out shows at the mohawk. the last few times i've seen ATW it's been in small dark clubs and i think their music lends itself better to that setting than to a bigger place like mohawk. energy just wasn't the same.
  2. anyone been to the gila wilderness in new mexico? will be out there in the spring, looking for some trail recommendations.
  3. 8:30. Allegedly there was still a long line at 7:50 so they delayed 30 mins.
  4. the war on drugs last night. the songs from lost in the dream are still the best live, and they played most of them that i wanted to hear. could have done without the slow numbers off the new album...rings around my father's eyes and occasional rain were a little lacking in energy. i don't want to wait was the best song off the new album by far. overall really damned good. under the pressure is a fucking beast live.

    Vinyl

this drives me crazy with the radiohead albums that are 45 rpm. 2 songs then flip.
  6. let's get this back on track...just a great song.

    Drive-By Truckers

First time i saw them they played the entirety of Southern rock opera at jovita's in 2001. Won tickets on the radio to see them at stubbs in 2006 that included a meet and greet at sound check. My favorite was this show at antone's...

    Drive-By Truckers

i love everything up to "brighter than creation's dark", but things drop off pretty hard after that. saw them a bunch of times in the early 00's and thought they were fantastic, but the last time i saw them live, around 2016, they seemed like they were just going through the motions. fair or not, i completely wrote them off after that show. 3 dimes down did pop up on a playlist this weekend and damn i really love that song.
  9. Spent a week out there after Christmas. Took our dogs so we didn't go into the natl park. Stayed 15 miles north of Terlingua... hiked several miles of Terlingua creek and did the hikes in the state park that allow dogs. Stopped at seminole canyon on the way back to austin, always wanted to go there. Great trip.
  10. yeah it doesn't suck, so not getting the U2 vibes.
  11. 1/19 the war on drugs 1/22 all them witches
  12. fantastic version of the waiting...when mike campbell rips that solo. damn.
  13. It didn't feel like Sunday Didn't feel like June When he met his silent partner in that lonely corner room That over looked the marquee Of the Plaza all-adult And he was not looking for romance Just someone he could trust And it wasn't no way to carry on It wasn't no way to live But he could put up with it for a little while He was working on something big Speedball rang the night clerk Said, "Send me up a drink" The night clerk said "It's Sunday man, wait a minute Let me think There's a little place outside of town that might Still have some wine" Speedball said, "Forget it, can I have an outside line? (Chorus) It was Monday when the day maids Found the still made bed All except the pillows that lay stacked Up at the head And one said, "I know I've seen his face I wonder who he is? The other said, "Probably just another clown Working on something big"
  14. stopped in uvalde last saturday and had the green chile bacon grilled chicken sandwich. it was the best wb experience i've had in quite sometime. the last few times i've been to the mlk location in austin it has sucked.
  15. i did my first one last year. used a whole brisket and i brined for 7 days...would increase to 10 next time.
  16. mike campbell gets a ton of credit (deservedly so) but i also think benmont tench is criminally underrated. good to be king, breakdown, don't come around here no more, etc wouldn't be the songs they are without his influence. same can be said for the harmonies with howie epstein, their voices blended together so perfectly. really that's what makes them such a great band, take out any individual piece and it just isn't the same. there's a magic that happens when they're all working together. i fucking love this acoustic version of king's highway so much, better than the original version i think.
  17. recently got one myself and so far the favorites have been pork chops, salmon, chuck roast, fried chicken.
  18. greatest american rock band. saw them 10+ times and it was always amazing. their acl festival performance is definitely a favorite...the band took a break because of the rain and A LOT of people left the festival. significantly improved my spot in the crowd. speaking of stevie nicks...i always liked this song more than stop draggin my heart around.
