  1. Can any of the lawyers here help me go through South Austin's posts to discover the ones where he belittled me for being too old? I think I may have a case.
  2. 1. I participated in three meetings where we discussed having less meetings. 2. I reviewed and 'adjusted' my invoices ahead of my audit. (AND THANKS A LOT FOR REPORTING ME, ASSHOLE) 3. I took in @immamac's Surly Horns CyberTruck for a software update. Since the Tesla repair facility is much closer to my home than the office, I worked from home the rest of the day, but really made progress on the invoices. 4. As requested by Immamac, I reviewed all the Christmas party photos in DropBox and removed any compromising ones. 5. I caught up on some much-needed rest and recovery time to help me prepare for Q2.
  3. Wow, just read it. The last paragraph is weird, for sure. Not a great way to inspire people to donate.
  4. Glad to hear he is doing better. Not to be @Thatguy, but be very, very careful with anyone online soliciting money. There are a ton of online donation scams out there. If you don't like that advice, @gofuckyourself
  5. I'm so stealing this.
  6. Clearly. AND THANKS A LOT FOR MENTIONING MY INVOICING ERRORS IN THE SURLY COMPANY SLACK THREAD. NOW I'M BEING AUDITED. WATCH YOUR BACK, BRO. 😡
  7. We would like to hear more about the robbery. Why was your roommate chosen? Were they buying from him? For normal people, it's hard to compute how someone decides to commit armed robbery. I know we are not talking about Nobel Prize winners here, and I've done lots of dumb things in my life, but man, how stupid do you have to be to even think this is a good idea, especially when you are getting a free ride at a university and potentially a chance to earn big $ in the NFL?
  8. That's exactly how I felt about Christian Siriano on Project Runway!! Though he was known for his whimsical designs, red-carpet appearances and body-positivity advocacy, I felt his design suggestions wouldn't be practical enough to help the contestants and also said so at the time. And sure enough, his tenure as the consultant was limited, though a couple of fabulous winners were produced.
  9. LOL, did he really begin the press conference by saying, "Really proud of the way we came out and played after a twenty-day layoff?"
  10. Gilbert was a bust at Texas, but only by the exact definition of the word.
  11. Not a player, but to some degree, Tom Herman fits the description. If you recall, it was an exciting time when he came. Most everyone, including myself, was excited about him and Surly Horns was just beginning. Surly Horns proved, by far, to be the better arrival, as Mensa revealed himself to be a petulant, immature and somewhat limited coach. Remember his very strange substitution policy, with WR’s switching out every play? Yes, he renovated the facilities and rallied the donors, but aside from the win over Georgia, was unable to take Texas to the next level. I’ll never forget him at his press conference following his last loss to Iowa State. He stood there, in a state of profound sorrow, understanding that he had blown his final opportunity. Worse, he was the OG Jimbo, as he walked away with a ridiculous payout.
  12. Hey, does anyone want to buy. It's gotta be worth something by now, right?
  13. I wouldn't get too choked up over it. Don't beat yourself up. We're all feeling a little bruised by this encounter. It's been a beating, for sure.
  14. Yes, I saw that, which is pretty amazing, and one of the most incredible posts on Surly Horns, if true. I would like to believe it is true since it adds a level of context we rarely see, but sharing the alt info since it has become part of the narrative.
  15. I'm genuinely surprised he is still alive. Doesn't sound like he's learned too much since his reign of terror at UT. I wonder if there was a scene of Mack chewing the fuck out of the recruiting person who brought him in. Mack had to apologize in public on behalf of the football team, haha. I bet there was hell to pay for plenty of guys. "I would like to apologize from our staff, players, and our coaches to the administration of The University of Texas, the athletic department, the student body, and our fans for the incidents that have happened this summer. It is something that we are not proud of, but I can promise you it is also not indicative of who this team really is. This team is as good a group of young men that we have ever coached, and they will continue to move forward after today and prove that on and off the field. At a time where we have had extra things happen outside of football that we are not proud of, I want to make sure that everyone understands that there are so many more young men on this team that will have the opportunity to show their class as well."
  16. Is this a clue that Andre Jones was actually innocent and a victim of mistaken identity ,as he always claimed? "The Austin American-Statesman reported that police may have actually been seeking James Henry back in July when they arrested Andre Jones. When Robert Joseph was arrested, police said they were "police are still looking for a black man, described as 6-2 and weighing more than 220 pounds".[17] One week later they arrested Jones, who was 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds. The Austin American-Statesman reported "That discrepancy led to some questions about possible mistaken identity regarding Jones in the days after his arrest. Now it appears that police were looking for Henry, who was listed at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds."[17] Henry had been questioned and released on the day of the robbery.[17]"
  17. Not sure. I can't find any updates on him. Amazingly, he was chased out of a car he was trying to steal by an Austin policeman/security guard, then ran into another car he then attempted to steal. Say what you want, but dude was committed. Amazingly, after all the trouble he got in at UT, Texas Southern offered him a slot. Joseph already had two juvenile misdemeanors on his record when he arrived at Texas in 2006. He played as a freshman but was suspended from the team after he was arrested in June 2007 for burglarizing cars at an Austin hotel parking lot, a Class A misdemeanor. Less than a month later, after announcing he would leave Texas and transfer to another school, he was charged in July 2007 with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Police said Joseph held a gun to the residents of an Austin apartment, including a 14-year-old, as he and teammate Andre Jones of El Paso took cash, cellular phones, a laptop and video game equipment. A third player was charged with retaliation and tampering with evidence.
  18. User name checks out
  19. You guys have shared a lot of great stories and names, but I want to see if anyone can top the Dre Jones story for sheer sadness. He was allegedly the first 5-star player to ever come out of El Paso and was ready to help the Longhorns reload for the 2007 season. By all reports, he was a top student in HS and the 3rd ranked DT in the country. Somehow, impossibly, during fall camp, he is implicated in an apartment robbery along with the infamous Robert Joseph. According to the Statesman, "Jones and Joseph stole cash, cellphones and video game equipment from the residents, according to court documents." Although he always claimed he wasn't at the scene of the crime, (see the Johntay Cook thread for more on this) he was unable to clear his name, pleaded guilty, served 30 days, and never played a down for the University of Texas. This was the summer of 'Book 'Em Horns', with seven players getting arrested. “There’s no doubt that he hooked up with the wrong crowd,” Payan said. “After (the arrest), he started to spiral out of control.” Payan said Jones, who was no longer allowed to stay in the on-campus dormitory, had to “live out of his car. … It wasn’t a good situation for him. Payan said he had very little contact with Jones after the player moved back to El Paso in the summer of 2008. Jones, stripped of his athletic scholarship and possible bright future in college football, did not make a smooth transition back to his hometown. “I always considered Andre mature for his age,” said Vanessa Burchett, who had known Jones since both were freshmen at Andress. “But I think being in Austin — a big city where he didn’t know anybody — he started hanging out with guys older than him. He wanted to be part of the crowd. In El Paso, he always stood out.” He tried to play at UTEP, but was struck by a car and tore his knee ligaments. After a brief stint at Tarleton State, it was a steady downhill of drugs and depression. He was arrested for crack and cocaine possession in 2012. “Andre would go on binges for months to smoke weed,” O’Neal said. “I’d ask him, ‘What are you doing? You don’t have the heart to take this.’ ” On Aug. 17, 2012, Jones was arrested; El Paso police said they found 34 grams of crack cocaine in small bags in a bedroom at his home. The case was dismissed last April. Sepkowitz and Meitler ( his former coaches) said Jones, a regular at the Andress field house while in high school, never sought their guidance after he returned from Austin. Meitler said Jones might have been “too embarrassed” to approach them after losing his opportunity to play for the Longhorns. In 2014, he died of an overdose at age 24.
  20. I was always suspicious of Kyle Porter and all his success behind the giant Katy O-line, but I was hoping for the best. He was such a non-factor during his years at Texas. Watching him plow into a non-hole game after game with his head down was so discouraging.
