    Starlink

Off grid solar powered application mainly as access point for security system. Battery storage to provide 150W power for 3-4 days of solar downtime would be prohibitively expensive. Cellular solution with 20+mbs speed is <20W.

150W is a non-starter for my application. That's too bad.

Any idea for power consumption of receiver and router setup? Looking with respect to an off-grid location what is going to be setup with solar/battery system.

  5. TAC allotment for RS has been 51/49 comm/rec forever. Who cares how many days it takes for each sector to catch their allotment? Texas gets the short stick vs eastern gulf due to the way they have count fished on structure, reported catch and shitty fishing weather when the season typically starts. We only get 6% out of the rec catch allotment vs Florida with 45% of the rec allotment. My main beef is guides fishing out of the rec allotment and getting the extra days to do it. That sucked. The 2019 plan is better regarding allowing the states to manage but the path to get to that point sucked over the last 10 years.
  6. Some overstatement here ^^^ but my biggest beef is guides fishing from the rec allotment vs commercial, especially when they push for catch allotment on the recreational side.
  7. Purse seiners. I believe they used some of the pogy fleet to chase schools of reds off the beach even using scouter planes to local large schools. https://gulfseafoodnews.com/2016/02/28/missing-redfish-documents-blackened-history-of-gulf-icon/
  8. This is a good one. Had two paper plates at my Dads when it hit and was wishing I had bought some during a store run the Saturday before. It sucked trying to conserve water and cook meals at the same time.
  9. I posted a couple of times in this thread about my plans for connecting a power inlet and using a breaker interlock device. I will probably still do it but am thinking about making measurements upstream of the main, after being switched, checking for voltage feed though. I expect any breaker failure stay open to happen on the switch transition.

    AMMO THREAD

Well, I'm down about 2k rounds after last night. Accidently left my truck unlocked and the fucking thieves checking door handles got lucky and snagged my range bag and some other shit. Had 200 40SW, 150 9mm, 100+ 5.56, 200 22 mag, 1K+ 22LR, 40 30-30 and about 10 XDM mags and 4 Buckmark mag. Hearing and eye protection too . Shit! I hate a thief!
  11. Buy non-ethanol gas, add fuel treatment. Rotate out your storage into vehicles. I normally have 2 cans at the house and a boat with 60gal a couple miles away. Gonna add a couple more cans in storage and every 3 months pour oldest into a vehicle and refille. Maybe so the same with a couple of water cans.
  12. I have a 3400W Ryobi inverter that is 85#. With wheels and a handle it is easy to wheel around and 85# is not too bad lifting into the back of the truck. Not as quiet as the Honda and Yamaha but only $550 so there's that.
  13. Amel 54 for the win. Two masts, not two hulls. I said this the the cruising thread but buy a 10yo hull for ~$500k, spend $50-80k on retrofit/updating, then sail it around the world for 5 years, spending $60-80k a year, sell it for $350k+ when done.
  14. Sweet ice climb. Break out the crampons and ice axes.
  15. Also research options regarding leaving in existing 401k vs converting to ira regarding being protected in bankruptcy or other legal judgements against you.
  16. I put one of these on my generator and pressure washer. Seem to work great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A43PKOE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  17. Agree manually controlling breaker and plugging into a dryer outlet is not good. The issue is forgetting to throw the main before connecting up and powering the generator and back feeding the power lines. A double pole, double throw transfer switch, which completely isolates the power company side, installed by an electrician is best but there are other methods that will work. A generator breaker interlock switch which, when installed correctly, prevents the backfed breaker and the power mains disconnect from being turned on at the same time. The one I just bought for my breaker panel is made by the manufacturer of the panel and has a code listing. Here’s what I did: I had previously purchased a Ryobi 3400w generator for use at a ranch property that doesn’t have power and have used it boondocking with my travel trailer. Is was fairly cheap, had good rating, has an inverter output which makes it better for electronic devices. I have a Square D 150A Homeline breaker panel that uses QO breakers. I bought the Square D interlock kit that fits my panel and a dual pole QO breaker to go in the upper right position in my panel. The interlock is just a plate that slides up and down blocking the lever of either the main or feed breaker from being switched on while the other is on. I bought this 50A Generator power inlet box to connect the generator power cable into my panel. This is the same inlet connector as my RV so I could use my existing RV cable setup but will buy a new one separate from the trailer. The cable used will depend on the generator outlet and whether you have a 120/240 or 120V generator.
  18. I’ll do a post in a bit to show the parts I bought to connect into my breaker box so that it is quick and easy to connect and isolates the mains power so you don’t back feed the supply lines in case someone is working on them.
  19. My garage ceiling fell on top of a lot stuff stored on one side including 2 boxes of garage door insulation that I bought last year and have yet to install. Probably soaking wet right now and if I would have put it up i bet it would have helped some. FML.
  20. If you have a warm dry house with food and hot showers, you can get two chicks, at least the kind that would double up on me. Sugar baby thread over there should have told you that.
  21. You would not want to do that but some have the ability to drain the tanks and carb and/or run it dry. You would still want to start it up and run it at least every couple of months as stuff like that doesn’t like to sit long and you don’t want it to fail when you need it. As for recommendations for a portable unit, IMO Honda sits at the top of the pile and it goes down from there. I bought a $550 3400w Ryobi Inverter generator to use with my RV and it will power all the emergency house loads that I would want.
  22. Since I can’t get back to my house yet to repair and haven’t turned my dads water back on, I spent yesterday ordering shit online and made a couple of hardware store stops when I got out today. Generator breaker interlock kit for my breaker panel, feed breaker, power inlet box and some cable parts. If I was home, I could have temporarily wired my genset into the panel and probably wouldn’t have broken a pipe. Wife would not have been capable of doing that but she should be able to drag it from the storage shed, fuel it, plug it in and get it running if I’m not there. 4 fuel cans with treated non-ethanol gas. Every quarter oldest goes into the car tank then get refilled. Waterbob bags for bathtub water storage. for us and parents households, a couple more 7 gallon water cans too. A good backpacking style water filter. Micropur water treatment tablets Extra 20# propane tanks and a couple of the Mr Heaters Window A/C unit for when shit fails in the summer Some additional led flashlights and lanterns A bunch copper and pex fittings for repairs Some of those freeze misers maybe
  23. What kind of fishing, fresh or salt? Look at either a dual console type or some of the family crossover center consoles. The crossover are kind of new that incorporate more general boating/cruising type features that a typical center console. I have a older 20’ Key West dual console that has served my family week when our kids where growing up. Lots of mid tier manufacturers of both of these styles that will get you in your price range. https://keywestboats.com/our-boats/239-fs https://keywestboats.com/our-boats/239-dfs Old post on my boat
