  1. He's also an accomplished director
  2. Try a Nero d'Avola. Sicilian reds grown by Mt Etna. Typically bold, dark fruit forward and medium body - not too earthy. Also usually a phenomenal price point. Nero Oro or Terramore are two WD's. If you want to stick to California River Road is a pretty good Alexander Valley Cab. Iter has a similar profile and price point but they purchase throughout Napa, not just AV. La Mascota is an Argentinian Cab that's a great value as well.
  3. I am a certified somm that worked at TW for two years after leaving the restaurant industry, led the wine program at my store, and taught classes. Total Wine does get a higher rate on SD and WD products. This is largely because they control the distribution of those products, as opposed to third party distributors that take a slice of the profit. The owners/founders are also from PA, not MD. They absolutely train their associates to push those products, sometimes through questionable claims. I found quite a few of their WD wines were very good. Typically they were European families producing at a mid scale. TW would demand exclusive distribution of their wines in the US in return for wide scale distribution. The WD program also includes First Growth Bordeaux's and other seriously quality bottles. SD products were more disappointing. Tons of bourbons that source from MGP. Labels that intentionally mimic major brands like Tower Texas Vodka (Tito's) and Lonehand Whiskey (Jack). The classes will only feature SD or WD products, and they offer free tastings of almost all Direct products. They train their staff pretty much exclusively on WD/SD products and offer bulk discounts only on those beverages. The stores keep metrics for % of sales that are WD/SD, and they reward the best performers in each region. I've had much better results with their WD wines than their SD spirits, but just ask for a taste before you buy, as some of them are quite good.
  4. just filled mine out. No brainer for the most part. I'm voting for every bond and every Dem at the Federal level. Only problem is for County Commissioner. The Republican is the incumbent and has been decent, serving in a bipartisan fashion for 30 years in the role. His Democratic challenger is charged with 4 felonies and 4 misdemeanors after creating online personas to post fake racist attacks against himself, including one named (I shit you not) "Antonio Scalawag". I think the charges are overblown and i don't really think being an online troll should be a criminal offense, but this dumbass' actions still pissed me off so I'm skipping that vote. It did provide a moment of disconnect for my GOP parents (who live in the same district). They mentioned having to get home to vote early against the felon. I asked them if they were voting against the felon for POTUS as well and got a lot of hemming and hawing about fake charges and projection towards me for bringing up politics (I didn't) in return. These people are gone, baby gone.
  5. I hate those alerts as much as anyone. You can turn them off. Just a public service. I slept beautifully through the night.
  6. Thank you for those chyrons Thank you for pointing them out. I missed it at first
  7. Latest bullshit smear attack on Walz: Subheadline: what he actually said: Hey morons: Explaining a theory is not advocating for its adoption. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/walz-state-education-appointee-called-us-overthrown-deconstructed
  8. We need better progressive populists today. The OG's passed amendments instituting a national sales tax, direct senatorial elections, and women's suffrage (sure Prohibition was a screw up, but they passed yet ANOTHER amendment to fix that). And that was in an equally polarized country where a majority were disenfranchised. We can change things. We've done it before. Blaming the Founding Fathers is lazy and projection.
  9. I don't know how many voters are taking it under consideration, but the Republican PA Legislature passed a law that requires all in person votes to be counted before any count of write ins is done. Dems need to vote in person so Harris leads on election night.
  10. I've been trying to convince the wife to move to Southern WA for years. Shop in Astoria, live in Washington.
  11. The easiest thing to pass would be a law adjusting the size of Congress with every census. Its obviously Constitutional - we did it every census until 1930. It was literally the original first amendment so the FF would approve. Just need a majority of both the House and Senate. F a filibuster. no income tax in wa
  12. https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4860996-robert-f-kennedy-jr-kamala-harris-donald-trump-2024-election/ Fucking asshole. Agree here. The President should be able to put together a sentence. Prospective cabinet members also shouldn't sound like they gargled the Devil's cum when they talk. That's why I'm voting Kamala
  13. He knows it's fake. Hence the "Political Cartoons" thread - even though there's no cartoon.... Don't take the bait
  14. Pretty sure the JD stands for Jackie Daytona. Regular human senator with topiaries in the shape of his two favorite love seats.
  15. is the goal to get attention or get a cease fire?
  16. NGL Simone Biles would be awesome
  17. Thanks to you and Tuco for this. I assumed that because he chose to be uncommitted in the primary that he wasn't committed to any candidate in the general. I don't have an issue with a pro cease fire candidate speaking. I just think it is completely counterproductive to refuse to commit your primary vote and demand a spot at the convention anyway. That's simply not how this works.
  18. because they committed to voting for Harris/Walz
  19. Congress needs to pass a law that adjusts the number of representatives with every census. It would increase the size of the House and give the bigger states more representatives in the chamber, thus helping to ensure the Dems hold it. SCOTUS can't do a damn thing. There is nothing in the Constitution that limits the size of the House. The House already expanded every census until 1930. The original proposed first amendment actually adjusted the size of the House with every census. Nine states ratified it, IIRC, but 10 were needed to beat the 3/4 threshold. It would also increase the number of electoral votes from larger states and help ensure that the winner of the popular vote would win the electoral college.
  20. The only people that pronounce Kamala's name like it rhymes with "Impala" are right wing blowhards or those that consume too much media from them. It's comma-la. It's not hard. It means "lotus" and it's a fairly common name, as pointed out above. Just another one of those under the radar attempts to emphasize her weird foreign name. It's Barack HUSSEIN Obama all over again. Don't fall for it.
  21. It still amazes me that these fuckheads continue to refuse to say her name correctly. It's not "Ka MAH luh" and they fucking well know it. It's just a dog whistle so they can tell who's in their stupid cult (and so I can tell who is a stupid moron I can immediately dismiss).
