  1. Might as well necro-bump this because it has been a while. Haven’t seen my best friend in 2 years. He‘s flying into Austin 5/12 for 3 nights of random fuckery. I’m already gonna be in town on 5/10 for the Pain Of Salvation show and will just stay in town and make a vacation out of it. We have a friend’s condo somewhere around 4th & San Jac (if I remember correctly) that we’ve used before. We’re both 51. No budgetary constraints (no paycheck pics). He looks like the dude that Best Buy sends to fix your desktop (he tucks in his tshirts for fuckssake). I look like a middle-aged rocker (tats, black attire, etc.). We enjoy swilling upscale Beers, sipping Bourbon and banging whores (why not all 3 at once?). I’m the foodie, he’s pretty basic. So…other than the Surly-approved trifecta of: 1) pegging each other, 2) hosting bum fights, and 3) snorting the Cascade pods in the cabinet, what are the don’t-miss places for a couple of middle-aged drunks looking for that perfect mix of debauchery and relaxation? A burger at Casino El Camino seems obligatory. Probably catch a set at The Continental Club. Maybe a res at Midnight Cowboy. I’m also thinking La Barbecue for a lunch. Possibly some afternoon stupid shit like shooting pool and catching up. Maybe help some naked college girls pay their tuition in a fine, recommended establishment that allows that sort of thing. He’s obsessed with Voodoo Doughnut, so I’m gonna need a solid coffee rec if I gotta put up with that shit. Places I’ve scouted online (thanks to other threads): Fixe for Saturday Brunch, Seven Grand, Dumont’s Down Low. With a few exceptions, I’m planning on boots-on-the-ground terrorizing downtown, but a short Uber won’t irk me. I ain‘t driving no more once we’re there. Fuck that. Is Rainey Street still a thing? We used to go to Banger’s on previous trips and (I think) Clive across from that. Good times… But…enough about me. What say YOU, Surly?
  2. I guess I'm subscribing here. Just found out I'll probably be spending some random weeks there this year. Might as well immerse in the local "culture" and various debaucherous options.
  3. Used to have a favorite Chinese place on Nacogdoches called China Ho. We laughed like idiots every time we went, but loved our little China Ho all the same…..
  4. I remember a Wok-A-Mole on Thousand Oaks heading toward Naco-Perrin. And another on Nacogdoches just another few block north. The buffets at those crossover joints were insane. I remember plates of General Tso’s Chicken with a couple of Beef Enchiladas, with some wok-seared Octopus, and a couple of Egg Rolls to dip in Guacamole. And several beers. Tecate, Tsing Tao, whatever. The indigestion was legendary in those days.
  5. Was a good Valentine weekend start here. Marc Broussard was amazing tonight at Dosey Doe in The Woodlands. Had tix for my wife (no pics) right at the stage. Poor guy even took a tumble and landed on his ass. I bet he’ll remember that one for a while.
  6. That kid annoyed the piss out of me.
  7. Fucking username definitely fucking checks out here, goddammit.
  8. What more do you need in life?
  9. I’m gonna need those back.
  10. Hangin’ with Zoey and enjoying some pre-dinner cocktails. Excellent place, my friend. Thanks for the rec.
  11. Thanks for that. Needed a good laugh.
  12. It’s fairly clear that Buck doesn’t understand how cats work.
  13. Thanks for the rec. Will check this out this week. I promise not to fuck the place up for ya!
  14. That’s what “inside” is for.
  15. Do NOT give it milk. If it won't take dry food, then give it wet food to start, until it's old enough to eat dry food. Wet food is nasty in the long term. Purina makes fine food. Buy kitten formula. Stay away from seafood (also nasty). A relatively mild chicken formula will suffice. PLENTY of fresh, clean water, changed often. Do NOT put food and water near the litter box. If you're gonna keep everything in the same area, at least separate them a bit. Scoopable, unscented litter in the box. Scoop daily. Place kitten in box oftern until it gets the hint. Then you can let it roam once it figures that shit out. Small fuzzy toys, corks, jingly balls, whatever. Don't subject kittens to sudden moves, harsh noises. Soothing voice, calm demeanor, deliberate movements. Something soft to curl up in. Old blanket. Even a towel. If you keep it, I have more tips. Good luck with the little fucker. Cats can be a real blessing around the house. They can also be a pain in the ass. Most of that fault lies with the owner.
  16. I was gonna pick a few of these up until I read the label. Holy shit, that’s a heart attack in a bowl. Not criticizing your meal choices. Just surprised at the outright depravity of the product.
  17. Damn...that must have been one wild-ass weekend!
  18. Unaware of the parameters of your trip, nor the disposition of your pet, but...I can't help but think that you would be better off finding a good boarding facility near you.
  19. They’d be better off if they just wrote it off. Amirite?
  20. So many Sunday dinners, celebrations with friends, birthdays, and memories there. My Dad was tight with Mr. Lee, and he used to love to tell Mr. Lee to "feed us" and he would start pulling the puppet strings in the kitchen and lay out an off-menu feast for us. In high school, I took many dates there and was pretty tight with Larry. I always remember him studying behind the cash register. He even hooked me up with a decorated private room for one of my Proms. Aside from the awesome memories, it is the Chinese food from which all others are judged. I have rarely found any that lives up to Mr. Lee's standards. I can duplicate the Egg Foo Yung, but I've never been able to duplicate the Egg Rolls or the Fried Rice. The marinated Pork they used was truly something special. Good times.....
  21. Necro bump here... Ever eat at Chung Mei at Dodderidge & Alameda?
