  1. I thought Asteroid City was really good, you should definitely check it out.
  2. This shit is just really sad all around. One child dead, another child’s life ruined by one extremely stupid mistake.
  3. I think the 36mm Explorer is one of the great every day watches, but holy shit that “Land Dweller” is absolutely garish. I can’t believe some of the shit people put on their wrist.
  4. I may have joined the party at 36 this morning. Have been trying to incorporate 15-20 minutes of yoga/stretching into my workout routine. I'm doing some toe touch stretch where you rotate locking your knees one after the other. After 5 or 6, my lower back seizes up so bad it hurts to breathe or walk, much less stretch or exercise. Wtf, this sucks
  5. I guess there are a couple things to unpack here 1. Of course “UATX” would accept an applicant with those qualifications. I’m also willing to take a principled stand of accepting dates with all women who look like Alexandra Daddario. 2. It sucks that not all kids can get into all schools. Life is tough and, at times, unfair (or, at least, tough to swallow). It will continue to be so.
  6. A perfect message to persuade gullible, low brow parents.
  7. 1. There Will Be Blood (there really isn’t another option) 2. The Master 3. Phantom Thread 4. Boogie Nights 5. Magnolia Gap here 6. Punch Drunk Love 7. Licorice Pizza 8. Hard 8 9. Inherent Vice
  8. My friend, you are not that old. You need to cut expenses and save in a disciplined manner to the max extent possible. The last thing you need to do is try to time the market or make a speculative bet on crypto. That is exactly how you make a bad situation worse.
  9. Guy on the left would need to be about 40 pounds heavier.
  10. Will be at Kentucky and, most likely, Athens
  11. Not sure there is a right answer to this, but I would watch them in chronological order unless you are just looking for the highlights. There Will Be Blood and The Master are two of the great films in cinema history, but they are certainly heavy. Phantom Thread is in my personal top 3 for PTA (username checks out), but some find it slow. Magnolia is an epic. Licorice Pizza will feel like a refreshing iced tea after watching all the others. Inherent Vice, Hard 8 and Punch Drunk Love are historically considered his lesser films, but even those would be the best films in most other directors’ filmography.
  12. Assume you are already maxing something like a mega back door Roth (assuming you/spouse have all the requirements)?
  13. That is horrifying. Friend in high school called a bunch of people out to a common meeting spot for our small town high schoolers. Charismatic guy. Said he had something cool to show everyone or something like that. Gun to the head. Never will understand
  14. This is why I’ve never rolled my wife’s 401k from her past job into an IRA. We’ve done back door/mega back door, and not having to think about the pro rata rule is great.
  15. You think watching Empire for the first time at home while partially doom scrolling/texting is equivalent to seeing it in a big screen with a group of people collectively having their mind blown?
  16. I'm not stating my opinion of the viewing experience. I am telling you why a director - the artist - is pleading for people to see his art via a certain mode of presentation, which is the question you posed several times. But I agree with your final point. Many people don't have the taste to discern a Barolo from 2 buck chuck. Same thing with consumption of art. On average, ease and cost will usually win out, which is why theater going will be a novel experience in 15 years or so.
  17. I went to MSG last night to catch the Steph (and Jimmy) show. The guy is just so fun to watch even if you are rooting against him. Incredible how the three guys you named continue to thrive.
