  1. No, I'm sure this is just part of the group that @slorch knows is fighting to keep kids at home. After all, he said so several times, huge groups of people fighting tooth and nail to avoid sending their kids to school. Of course, when asked several times to indicate who any of these people are, there was no response, but by Jove I think you'll find them now!
  2. I think it's clear that @midtown is stating that the data-driven forecast means no specific new assumptions / intelligence are built into the forecast (e.g. it is purely taking historical trends and applying), as opposed to a prediction which may take things like school openings, mask policy, etc., into account. This doesn't mean that the data-driven forecast is better or worse, just that underlying assumptions are not specifically adjusted for a new forecast.
  3. Oh hey @markstanco, you're back. Did you ever figure out what searching for 3-digit numbers on Google was supposed to tell us?
  4. This is really amazing to see shape up. I am not surly 1% but definitely want to join. Only question for me is, is there a feeling that there will be multiple Surly position-group camps? If I had to choose, would rather support OL or DE. Frankly, the life expectancy of our TE's scares me to death so want to contribute to other groups as well. Is this something like there will be an SEC-ish gentleman's agreement that OB sponsors OL, Surly sponsors TE, HF (does it still exist) sponsors WR, etc.? Too early to tell?
  5. You are such a martyr. You don't get negged for being a conservative, you get negged for being mind-blastingly stupid. To your credit, negging you is a little mean because it's not that you are a troll, it's that you literally don't realize how incapable you are of anything approaching any level of critical thought. You got negged for coming into the COVID thread and posting gems like: "I still don’t understand the emotional attachment to getting a shot. There were people in the spring just absolutely giddy that they got their vaccination. Neither the glee nor the regret are rational." and comparing the relief of seeing relatives with stopping at a red light. Maybe you need a special badge that indicates you have extra special protection but don't pretend that your negs are due to being a conservative.
  6. I would certainly posit that the large majority of posters in this forum would have a blanket reaction that just about any output of the Trump administration should be viewed with skeptical (at best) eyes. I would further posit that that the same majority of posters are less likely to cast that same skepticism to any output of the Biden administration. You seem to be implying that is some sort of gotcha. If the claim is that there is some team politics coloring this difference, I would agree. But, would you agree that there is a significant baseline difference in overall competence and corruption between the two administrations that would also explain the different reactions?
  7. I'm not sure I agree with your argument on the two types of posters. Hell, even in DT, with a few exceptions, most posters at least proclaim disdain for Trump. I'd rather say the two types of posters are those that see a gangrenous elephant and think that all it needs is to duct tape a few healthy squirrels and hope that'll save the rotting tissue, and those that say it needs to be shot and we should go get a new elephant.
  8. It's really weird how everyone is a Libertarian on these charts but we keep electing Authoritarians. It's almost like the quiz has really simple questions that have no reflection on a complex reality. Nah, must be a global conspiracy.
  9. Misrepresenting articles is also a bitch move, as is starting topics that are CR-bound in DT. I tend to agree that drive-by negging posts that aren't clear troll posts or just completely shitty (dropping racial or homophobic slurs, for example), is lame. Hence my reply. Harrison is free to neg me back (as are you or others obviously).
  10. Yes, I'm sure Altria would just love to buy a company that just paid $40 M to settle a lawsuit alleging that Juul was targeting teen users in North Carolina. That multiple other states have also filed lawsuits alleging similar behavior in other states has no bearing I am sure. IT'S JUST THE MEEDYA!
  11. Negged for misrepresenting an article that belongs in CR anyway. The article states that Chinese coal plants are largely responsible for manufacturing of solar panels but contains no analysis (at least not beyond paywall) of cost-benefit over life-time of panel (which, yes, should also include disposal of panels). Even if this analysis is true for solar panels (which again, is not at all clear from the article), that is not true for EVs or wind. A recent white paper on EV's, for examples, concludes that they are a net-positive relative to internal combustion engines. You can certainly argue assumptions, but at least the analysis is laid out.
  12. If you're looking for something new, I hear that Jim Rome said some funny things about aggy recently, you could search for that and post it.
  13. You've got to be fucking kidding me.
  14. Exactly. Hey Texas Dems, please help the party of personal responsibility be responsible! We just need, like, half a bootstrap, not even a full one!
  15. Yes. Was really hoping to be the first to Comic Book Guy "Well actually, this was a continuity error in the 10th panel..." but was of course beaten by a duck. Furk.
  16. Well gee, now that Tarp has confirmed the move, I guess the only suspense in this thread is if @Mitch Cumsteen will neg posts that quote articles with the word-that-shall-not-be-named.
  17. Well he's sure as shit not running back his words.
  18. Yeah, well that's what you mom said about my love-making, so take that!
  19. At least we got to a lot of words to say "Ok, I was wrong and I admit it." I think that's progress?
  20. You are still not answering the question. You replied to a poster pointing out that conservative politicians and media are now changing their tune on vaccinations. ("Corporate overlords and staring down their base bearing the brunt of delta"). You replied say "Ben Shapiro hasn't changed his mind!". I agree, Ben hasn't. Do you disagree with the actual point that conservative media and news have largely been anti-vax?
  21. Yeah, all the white police officers are super fucking qualified and if anything, they spend too much time policing their own. Their only weakness is that sometimes they just work too hard.
  22. I get that being a big-brained centrist is part of your shtick, but are you suggesting that majority of conservative news outlets and politicians have NOT consistently downplayed the usefulness, effectiveness, or need for COVID-19 vaccines? I do agree that Shapiro has been pretty consistent and supported vaccines but point out an exception does not counter the general argument.
  23. What the hell are you talking about? You are semi-self-aware and you voted for Trump in 2020. You say it's not a winner but as soon as you (and many many more like you) see that (R) next to the name, you are pulling the proverbial lever.
