  1. Ekphrastic. Ran across that word today for the first time. Poets describing paintings. smdh that there's a word for it.
  2. "We're Waco, we'll handle your package"
  3. Sounds like a good collection to me. I've got mostly livebearers but also a pleco, a Pearl Gourami, mixed bunch of Cory cats and a Betta in my 55. A 20 gallon with a mutt mix of Endler's guppies.
  4. Good to see someone else get into the planted freshwater game. I've never taken the plunge into CO2, my feeling being I'm more about the livestock than the vegetables. A rancher, not a farmer. Good luck! Any thought on what to stock it with yet?
  5. You never ever hear of the needle drug folks shooting up near coke or near H, or the pipe crowd smoking near crack. Folks would think that was pretty nutso. I guess there's some level of social acceptance of the method of ingestion that makes near beer "okay" but are my comparisons really that far off the mark for an alcoholic? Mental masturbation is what I was told.
  6. It's USC, I think he may be right on this one.
  7. This month Vanity Fair article on Richard Avedon. https://archive.vanityfair.com/article/2020/10/avedon-ascendant
  8. @DougOI tried shooting birds in flight this past weekend with the zoom tele. Fuck. I can see how years of shooting sports would help, tracking and zooming and getting focus is HARD.
  9. No real practices for 2 weeks. Yeah, the Bears will be rested but not in anything close to football shape and they'll look like they're in slow motion. Horns may not cover that original spread but I'm thinking they win by double digits. Two fingers. One girl.
  10. I like it. Surprised as shit that I do because I hate change but it looks good and I think I can adapt. Okay, I'm in. You've already got my tree.50
  11. Some websites you have to buy a subscription to view their fluids. What I was told anyway.
  12. Check her t-shirt? I mean, I'd buy a t-shirt if I went to Vegas.
  13. The word is going to get around the space community. Earthians are handsy.
  14. My Greg Gorman retrospective book arrived today and it's about 10 pounds of glorious. Highly recommend.
  15. Where's a link to don8? I tried a couple of links in the "Store" and thought I had 3 trees in my cart but when I tried to check out it called me a dirtbag, a Baylor fan and a Charlie Strong supporter. None of which are entirely true.
  16. What year was it they started allowing the dancing? Just sayin'....
  17. Just keep doing what you're doing. He'll eat when he's ready, fish rarely die from starving themselves. Too, every fish is different. I've had Bettas that took a couple of weeks to get settled and others that acted like they'd been living in my aquarium their whole life. Never know.
  18. I dug around in the sofa last week and found some loose change and now I own a gently used Nikon D500. Unless I ever make the leap to mirrorless cameras I think I'm done with the gear acquisition. This isn't a significant upgrade over the D7500 that I've been using because that's a fantastic camera body imho but the D500 has a few features I'm really looking forward to using; namely the edge-to-edge focus points, its reputed low light focusing ability and it has an optional vertical grip which I also bought. It does weigh a good bit more with a battery installed in the grip but I don't know that I'll be using it for its battery as much as I will for the vertical controls. Twisting my arm/hand around in an awkward way was never fun when shooting vertical and now that is a thing of the past.I'll probably end up trying to learn the controls this weekend and not actually taking pictures with the thing, lol. Such is life with digital gadgets.
  19. Got a notice about homecoming this week. Had a touching story of a BU engineer who saw a need to help autistic kids and so he put that brainpower to work. Seems that these kids at least anecdotally can get some help from riding horses, equine therapy. Strengthens muscles, fosters better wiring in the brain etc... Anyway, the genius decided that for kids who can't afford a horse or don't have access to a horse he'd invent a machine that mimics the motion of a horse. So yeah, he spent who knows how much time studying and mapping the movements of horses and created a machine that mimics that. Not surprisingly they called it, no shit, the MiraColt. Miracolt on the Brazos. Pretty sure I saw one of those in front of Piggly-Wiggly when I was a kid, cost a dime to ride.
  20. Heh. Heheh. Hey, Beavis, she said "tit". Like knockers.
