  1. 5 episodes into Bodkin. What’s with all the country music in this small Irish town? They were playing George Strait and Waylon at the wake and then Dov does karaoke of a Willie Nelson song at the pub. Odd show. It’s tonally all over the place, but I’m mostly enjoying it.
  2. I haven’t watched the finale yet but after learning the twist and then going to read some online show reviews, I found it interesting that they gave the whole show to critics, not just the first 2-3 episodes like they do for a lot of shows. Especially when you have a fundamental genre shift like this one.
  3. I heard a review that made a great point about the Ric Flair part. Movies about real life subjects tend to make the movie version so much more glamorous and exciting than the real thing. Think Kevin Costner as Jim Garrison in JFK, Burt and Dolly as the leads of Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Liam Neeson as Oscar Schindler, Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, etc. But even Hollywood just can’t improve upon the real Nature Boy. Flair is such a larger than life figure (especially in his heyday of the mid-late-80’s) that anyone they got to play him would be a pale imitation who looks small by comparison.
  4. I’m intrigued by the first episode of Bodkin. It’s got all the right set up for a classic folk horror story, but they have it listed as a comedy. Here’s hoping they can pull off the rare comedy/horror hybrid of something like An American Werewolf in London.
  5. Just watched episode 6. Hoo-boy. I was told “don’t Google it before watching the show” and I would strongly echo that advice. I wonder how the folks who were upset about the latest True Detective series having supernatural elements feel about this one?
  6. Saw Stereophonic last night at the John Golden Theater. Would highly recommend. It’s the fictionalized story of Fleetwood Mac recording the Rumors album and all the drama that went along with it. Also a shoutout for Bamonte’s in Brooklyn. Real old school Italian. Family restaurant that’s been there since 1900 and has all the pictures of Joe DiMaggio, Rocky Marciano, James Gandolfini, etc. The Sopranos filmed scenes in 3 episodes there. I’d recommend it over any place in Little Italy.
  7. LOL, Fautanu’s grandmothers seem to have no idea what’s going on
  8. Goddamnit, every highlight of Penix on NFL Network was against us in the Sugar Bowl.
  9. Just checked in after a few days away and saw the new thread title. So perfect. Bravo
  10. I went and found the thread. Damn you for sending me down this rabbit hole. Who knew there was such drama percolating through these forums?
  11. What happened to Derka?
  12. You clearly need to brush up on your minor characters from John Hughes movies of the 80’s if you want to keep up with this crowd.
  13. Dear Damonic, Do you want to play for the Longhorns?
  14. There is just something about those vocal peer recruiters on social media that never seem to work out. Jalen Milroe, Brown, Kirkland. Bobby Taylor at ATM.
  15. I have seen this argument a couple of places and it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. If I am an observer in Oman, or the UAE, or Iraq and I see Israel fire one missile that takes out the commander of the Quds Force and several other high ranking members, and Iran’s retaliation is to fire 300 drones, cruise, and ballistic missile that collectively only manages to injure a poor little Bedouin girl, who comes off looking like the strong horse in this exchange? I tend to think that they really thought they would inflict some pain on Israel. If they didn’t, it seems like a miscalculation, a waste of a lot of their arsenal, and it gives Israel another causus belli to come back after them. If you’re going to break forty years of acting through proxies to do your dirty work, I would think you’d want a much better return on such a move.
  16. I’m 6 episodes in and really enjoying it so far. Have a question that seems like a fundamental flaw in the premise that I’m wondering if they ever answer:
  17. I think that’s what bothers me the most. The gaslighting by all of the announcers. - “They play tough defense without fouling”
  18. I mean, technically, Mao’s face didn’t appear in the Netflix version either. Does the Tencent version not depict the struggle session or work camps?
  19. Hottest scientist on film since a young Denise Richards played Dr. Christmas Jones in The World Is Not Enough Really surprised to see there’s a Chinese adaptation given how hard (and accurately) they portray the horrors of Mao’s Cultural Revolution.
  20. Great movie. If you have kids it hits especially hard. I listen to the soundtrack quite a bit as background music for work.
  21. He was spotted at a Pappadeaux’s in New Mexico last week. Looks every bit of 94. https://pagesix.com/2024/03/29/entertainment/actor-gene-hackman-94-and-wife-betsy-arakawa-62-seen-on-first-public-outing-in-21-years/
  22. The Daily Mail running a story on the national anthem controversy by amplifying posts of outrage on Tiger Droppings is the corn dog circular firing squad action I’m here for: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/college-basketball/article-13264361/lsu-fans-fume-kim-mulkey-fired-national-anthem.html
  23. Fillipowski is carrying on the long and storied tradition of Duke having a hateable white guy who behaves like a wrestling heel on the court. A grateful nation thanks you for your service in keeping it unified against Duke.
