Yep, reputation is a trailing indicator. In both directions. It will take a decade for the damage to really affect UT's reputation. The problem is, even if UT manages to right the ship afterwards....it'll take at least that long for the reputation to recover.
I avoided those too. Barely, though. I registered for a class called "Women in Literature" to satisfy my Fine Arts requirement, thinking "cool...I like women, I like literature, this will be great for me." Showed up for the first class, and there were around 20 people in the class. All female. And none of them looked please to see me. The professor stared right at me as she explained the syllabus and her approach, which was something about the marxist-feminist perspective and the evils of the patriarchy. I smiled, because I realized I'm a clever guy, and could pick up on her subtle hints. Left class that day, dropped the FUCK outta that class, and picked up a Shakespeare class. But - and this is important - I didn't get my panties in a bunch. If those gals wanted to offer and take that class, enjoy. I wouldn't have expected them to sign up for MY dream seminar, "How to drink beer, chase girls, and end up late to class because you were duck hunting."
