  1. Jesus tapdancing Christ. Noted highly trained and experienced virologist RFK Jr....wait, what's that, he has literally ZERO formal training or qualifications in the field? Well, anyway, the world's most respected and highly trained virologist, RFK Jr, is leading the charge to create an...."everything vaccine." Will this "vaccine," which will "mimic natural immunity" (whatever the fuck THAT means in his sponge brain) be available for online purchase, pursuant to ads on right-wing podcasts and such? You bet your ass. Will it work? Highly doubtful, being that its chief promoter doesn't even think infectious diseases are much of a thing: “I do not believe that infectious disease is an enormous threat to human health." Those are his exact words, from way back....just two fucking years ago. Someone turned this timeline to max stupidity, then snapped the knob off to just let it run at redline.
  2. Naah, here's how this plays out. First, authorize the US military to engage in combat actions within the US against "invading terrorist groups Tren de Aragua, Sinaloa Cartel, and El Night-o Shift-o at El Taco Bell." Then, declare -- unilaterally, without any actual due process or adjudication by any body (remember, "you don't get due process if you're an illegal" is their firm position) -- that this group or that group of brown people here or there are members of such terrorist groups, and hit em with Fallujah-style combat operations. Sure, a few walls will get blasted down, a few belts of .50 cal will be unloaded into a fucking apartment or fruit-pickers' shack or whatnot, but why do you hate America and purifying the blood of our country? This is a plan to use military force against whoever the regime wishes, inside our own borders. Which, again, they've told us repeatedly is EXACTLY what they intend to do.
  3. Yeah. I grew up Catholic (catholic schools, the whole 9 yards, which also meant that some of my lifelong friends are dyed-in-the-wool Catholics). When I told some of them I was marrying my non-Catholic wife (at the time, Methodist, as she grew up in the Methodist church), a couple of them even commented "but....she's not Catholic!" Nope, she's not. And, we're getting married in her family's church (St. Luke's - gotDAMN is that a white folks protestant church). To make it even better, I'm now active in leadership in the PCUSA Presbyterian church, where my wife is an ordained minister. Kinda makes my friends' heads spin, but the cool part is that the priests and nuns who educated both of us (yep, wife went to Catholic school for a while - she was regularly "the protestant" in various classes) think it's pretty cool, and we've had a lot of good visits over theology with them over the years.
  4. And whether it was a clip of mosquitos or a magazine of mosquitos.
  5. Yeah....that's a pretty solid assumption on which you've built the rest of your posting strategy. Genius.
  6. "I was in Wichita Falls for a wedding. A Catholic wedding. Where the reception was alcohol-free. The long drive home down plenty of barren stretches of road gave me ample time to ponder exactly which of my many sins that experience was punishment for, but in spite of my multitude of sins . . . some of which are so appalling, I didn't enjoy even a brief memory of them . . . I couldn't come up with a single one worthy of the punishment of a dry Catholic wedding reception in Wichita Falls." There. Just wrote the first paragraph of my novel.
  7. I mean.....that's literally the biggest upside of every Catholic wedding: the bar at the reception. Shit, even if it's a Texas czech catholic wedding in some dinky town, there's at least a coupla kegs at the KC Hall for the reception. A booze-free Catholic wedding is like a sex-free orgy: utterly pointless.
  8. Man. In my First Communion picture, I'm wearing a 1970s light burgundy suit. Fucking LIGHT BURGUNDY. That's a goddamn shitty wine, not a legitimate color, FFS.
  9. Sure they do. They are the things that allow you to treat unbelievers, women, gays, and others like complete and total shit exactly like fundamentalist islamofascists do, except it's actually good and just and virtuous, because you say "Jesus" and "I'm a Christian" while you do it.
  10. A story ripped from the pages of "DUH! A Journal of the Obvious." This has been the play all along. And it plays out with Ukraine saying "f that," the US saying "fine, fuck you, we're cutting off all aid," and many more Ukrainians dying in a war that will continue to rage with support from the rest of Europe, but not end without the "get it past the finish line" support that only the US can provide. It's a recipe for failure, prolonged war, and more bloodshed. And that recipe was fully baked months ago.
  11. The difference is breadth and depth. Shit, there's one 4-block stretch of Hillcroft (pretty sure it's Hillcroft) where food from 30+ different countries is represented. That's just a single 4-block stretch of a single street, in a big-ass cities with hundreds of such stretches all over. Austin still struggles to keep more than one decent dim sum (not fancified dim sum, authentic dim sum) joint open, as just one example.
  12. blah blah blah women saying "I didn't vote for this." Pulp Fiction gif here.
  13. Wow. You're going with the "Christ-killers" angle? For real?
  14. Correct. The ability of Americans to connect actual policies to their actual effects.....versus attributing vague "gubmint did something" as the cause of everything bad in their lives, is astounding to me still. They at once blame the government for shit it didn't do and doesn't control, while looking right past the actual real-world effects that government action has on their lives. We deserve all the stupid shit we are getting, because we the people are mind-bendingly stupid.
  15. Bingo. BINGO. BINGO.
  16. But he also has a hard and known floor. “Hey, if we run a psychotic, crooked criminal, how low will it go?” We know that. He wins. No matter what. He could buttfuck a puppy to death on live TV, and not go below that floor. AND…the MAGA base LOVES him…BECAUSE he’s the type of guy who would kill a puppy to own the libs.
  17. Agree. I grew up going to the Alley, saw amazing productions.
  18. This…the Austin restaurant scene has surged, but largely in all the wrong ways. We add 10 douchetastic overpriced Instagram joints for every 1 real-deal good new place. That said, believe it or not, the burb corridors are adding Houston-like quality and diversity. REAL Asian places, Georgian, Persian, all kinds of stuff…up 183, towards RR, etc. But also, don’t underestimate how much deeper Houston is when it comes to the arts. My wife grew up following ballet in Houston. When we moved to Austin, we ended up going to the ballet some years later. It was like watching AA ball after growing up watching MLB quality. Houston has it going on.
  19. Bottom line, “money talks, wealth whispers.” I’m a member of neither group, but have been around both of them plenty. Each has some negatives….but all in all…wealth. Go with wealth. They’ve been there before, they understand power, and how it is a long-term play. Wealth builds. Money tries to gorge, and takes stupid risks and makes foolish displays. It’s the contrast of “let’s run down there and fuck one of those cows” and “naww, son…let’s walk down there and fuck ALL of em.” As a nation, we are a weird amalgam. We are power and wealth…but we aren’t one of the OLD great powers (UK, France). So we managed to walk our own path at the leadership level that acknowledges our newness but reflects our established power and wealth. We’ve chucked that, and gone full-on ostentatious new money gaudy compensating for not being “one of the old guard.”
  20. Yeah, f that, remember when the menu was 59, 79, 99. Show up with $3 plus a coupla coins for tax, and you got 5 items.
  21. The truth is a liability. No truth is as comforting or enticing as a riveting lie.
  22. It will be voided, by "executive order" or some shit, before the 2026 election.
  23. Dude. You missed a really huge problem Hunt has: The motivated nutbars are the entire GQP demo in the primary in Texas. There are no fucking "normies" GTFO with that shit. Anybody who started out as a normie and still votes GQP has drunk ALL the fucking kool-aid, and is now a fucking nutbar. Paxton wins whatever office in Texas he wants. Easily.
