Dude….that’s a bridge too far.

Every lawyer I know has at least joked about “discounting our rate to $10 an hour if you tip is $490 an hour” or something to that effect. It’s so fucking stupid.

The Leopards Eating Faces and Unlubed Dildo of Consequences Thread
Brisketexan replied to Horn Dog's topic in Cloak Room
To be fair, my people love beer and cheese as much as anyone. -
Allison Russell at Scoot Inn. She’s ethereal, defiant, badass, bilingual, Québécois de l'île de Montréal, and one helluva singer. This is our fourth time to see her, and she’s getting better and better. The possessive lesbians in the crowd can be a bit much (she kind of broke through playing with Brandi Carlisle), but they’re at least happy about things.

New category: Trump - so fucking stupid that even morons, imbeciles, and idiots say "holy fuck that is one dumb motherfucker."
-
He's an abject moron, of the highest order. It's not any more complicated than that.

Ok, see....I disagree. Ethnic pride is not idiotic. Ethnic pride at the expense of/over all others IS idiotic. Just like patriotism is not idiotic. But nationalism/exceptionalism at the expense of all others is idiotic. Hell, it's one of the things I love about travelling: experiencing the pride of other people in who they are, where they come from, their culture and their ways. It's a sense of identity and self, tied to land and community, and it's a good thing. When it is part of you knowing how to appreciate ALL cultures and people in their own way - "hey, I'm a proud Texan, and like to show off football and bbq to visitors, and you're a proud German, and like to show off beer and wurst to visitors, we should party!" - it's a good thing. When it leans into tribalism and subjugation/attacks on other cultures, it's a huge fucking negative. Obviously, culturally, we're leaning in HARD on the "negative tribal bullshit" angle these days. So I hear you. But man, I love going to a Greek festival, a Polish festival, a Turkish festival, a pachanga, Chinese new year, all that shit. It's cool to see people celebrating who they are. And they enjoy sharing it with others. That's the best of humanity. That we often turn into the worst of humanity.

Yeah....not a weed guy, never have been. Have popped a gummie on occasion. But THC is not chemically/physically addictive. Do some people use it/depend on it too much? Absofuckinglutely. Just like some people need co-dependent relationships with other humans. But that's a "how you approach life" issue, not a "we need to ban the chemical because it is physically addictive" issue. Understand that full-on regression is what is happening here. Kill public education to ensure an ignorant, docile population. Ban anything pleasurable. Think I'm kidding? See the open discussions and planning, at the highest levels, to ban....birth control. So, yes, non-procreative sex will be functionally banned, if they get their way. We're already banning porn across the board, so dig up those old Sears catalogs to inspire your next jerk-off session -- that is, we're doing all we can to ban masturbation. Oh, and sodomy laws are coming back, and they aren't limited to same-sex sodomy. So, now your wife will have the perfect excuse when she declines giving you a blowie -- it's against the law. Nothing is happening in isolation. It is all part of theme and overall, OPENLY STATED plan. Continue to vote for the champions of that plan at your peril.

And we can go down that rabbit hole for the bazillionth time, as issues such as this one are complex as hell, involve years of history and cause-and effect, etc. But, for the CURRENT iteration of this violence.....I think it is the right conclusion to say that 1) it kicked off based on the events of October 7th, 2) Hamas's actions on October 7th were fucking criminal and horrific, and deserve a violent response, and 3) Israel has gone well beyond proportionate response and is now engaging in what they openly admit is a plan to ethnically cleanse all of Gaza of all Palestinians. And both of those things are bad. Then, once you have that foundation laid in this timeframe....more bad shit and violence will happen.
-
Responses: 1) Suck it, libtard! 2) You have TDS! 3) You can't prove those weren't photos of white genocide in South Africa! 4) Suck it, libtard!

Their iPhone's what?

Counterpoint: they are too far gone. This country has had ignorant pieces of shit who are too far gone for much of its history. We are at our best when we shame them, make them socially unacceptable, and force them back under the rock where they belong. You cannot reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into. So, treat them like the plague that they are: isolate them, so they can do minimal harm to the rest of us. And if that means walling off most of SEC country, fucking do it. You cannot defeat stupid. It is immune to all weapons except brutality -- social brutality etc.
-
Yep. Now, are there folks here who observe that the universal rule of "don't start no shit, won't be no shit?" continues to apply? Sure. Hamas stupidly started some shit.....and understandably got some shit in return. Israel's response turned out to be disproportionate, cruel, and openly proclaiming ethnic cleansing of an entire region.....and shit has happened in return. Hamas shouldn't have attacked Israel. Israel shouldn't be ethnically cleansing a region and committing war crimes against civilians in the course of its war against Hamas combatants. Palestinian supporters shouldn't be committing acts of violence against Israeli or Jewish civilians. An observation that once the cycle is going, and all parties are doing all they can to perpetuate it, said cycle will surely continue, is just that...an observation. Would be nice if someone stepped up and broke the cycle. I doubt any of us are holding our breath waiting for that. As our world plunges backwards, into one that celebrates revanchism and violence above all else, and values rule of the gun over the rule of law, a lot of us are fully in this era: This environment and outcomes are what people across the board seem to be opting into. So, they're getting it. We all are. Choices have been made, across the board. And here we are.

I agree with you (although Rex's negging and DM stunt with Imma appears to be what got him suspended -- he was being stupid with that). I'd like more good-faith discussion. But here's a thing that's happened in the last decade plus: "good-faith" conservative folks are an endangered species. The entire ethos has become a cult based on trolling and treating anyone not in the preferred group like absolute shit (in other words, following the model of Trump), so....how do you have a good-faith conversation with that? You don't.

The American inability to see anything from a perspective other than their own is top-notch. Think of all of the discussions we've had over the years ("what do you mean people don't have a driver's license? You need an ID to even get on a plane!" Yeah, dudes...a huge percentage of Americans never have and never will fly anywhere). And to be fair, we're all guilty of it to some extent, but having a decent society starts with acknowledging and accepting that you have a limited perspective. It goes in all directions, by the way. I remember in law school, talking to one of my new students casually about me going hunting the next week - she was from Brooklyn. "You have a gun????" I mean....yeah, I have several. "What the hell? What is wrong with you? Do you shoot people? Why do you have so many guns?" Her perspective - minority female from Brooklyn -- was WAY different than mine, 5th generation Texan with rural roots. It was beyond conception to her for anyone to own a gun for any reason OTHER than "you're a criminal up to no good." It was a little eye-opening for me. I'd seen plenty of zero perspective, limited thinking from conservative types, but I was seeing it from a more left-leaning person. And yeah, I saw a lot more of it over the years. But starting from a point of "so.....the experience of a black person growing up 40 years ago was significantly different than my experience" is damned helpful. But, you know, we're colorblind, and we're all Americans and whatnot, and why you gotta be so divisive?

There is a 200% chance that dude jerked off to the weirdest fucking porn you can imagine.

There's a good number of things in my life I'm ashamed of. I made some bad judgments. As a young man, I made plenty of quite foolish choices. One of those things is the fact that I had a MASSIVE crush on Shakespeare in Love-era Gwyneth: I did. There's no getting around it. I confess, I bear my shame, and that's that.

Trivial things that please the ever living shit out of you
Brisketexan replied to Tailleur17's topic in Lulz
Convenience stores are definitely hit-and-miss on coffee quality. I try to stick with 1) places I already know, if they are a one-off place, convenience store type (I have places I've stopped on certain road trips and routes before that I trust) or 2) a chain, but not something that is going to have 475 yoga pants moms gumming up the works (I appreciate the scenery, but I've got shit to do). So, McDonald's and BK are on that list, Whataburger is too, but don't sleep on places like Jason's deli. Also, even a diner/mexican joint that looks to do a lot of breakfast business? Walk in, go to the cashier and order a cup of coffee to go. It's likely to be fresh (as they're covering the breakfast rush) and not too pricey. The simple pleasure of just a decent cup of coffee is a good thing. -
The destruction of America's public education system

YAY! No. First, damage has been done. Second, they won't follow it. They'll simply order everyone at DOE to stop work. -
Road trip stop question (I-10 drive of misery)
Brisketexan replied to texasdago's topic in Food and Travel
Emphasized for mental insanity-causing truth. Worst stretch of any road trip I've ever taken is that stretch, at night. All you can see is a narrow band of stars above, with the trees creating a narrow pinch point from either side. Not even roadside signs or sites (they're all tucked back away from the highway. It literally drives you insane. -
