  1. I think @Bozo_Casanova has said this, too, or I'm conflating him with Ezra Klein who has made this point repeatedly.
  2. I’m somewhere between a grimace and a laugh about that one (since I’m paying into it), but the fact that Austin voters approved that particular bond was insane. Let’s raise taxes by $171 million so we can keep $41 million of it. I guarantee you if we could deploy $171 million for the 2026 election we’d run this state, update the recapture formula, and maybe have a more permanent solution.
  3. I can’t speak for how it was used in the film, but we would use that terminology any time it was appropriate to let the Iraqis know we were there (since we were primarily conducting reconnaissance missions, we’d usually be trying conceal our presence, or the size of our presence, and would want to warn away the curious). That might be a flare or any other force escalation necessary to deter closer inspection. Bear in mind, nothing moving over land is meant to be entirely unobserved so oftentimes it was about enforcing a safety barrier for Iraqis’ protection, too.
  4. I'd bet Thompson and Klein have confided in each other that their book would have played a lot better in 2022. I'm sure it's agonizing to hatch that baby and realize the conversation for the next four years is only going to be about Trump.
  5. Synopsis? Surly is as far into social media as I venture.
  6. Task force tomahawk holla! I was in Ramadi then, too, but I was in a USMC recon unit so we were everywhere in Al Anbar. Personally, I have zero interest in the film because I already lived it. Also, SEALS are some self-aggrandizing motherfuckers.
  7. You can sell that one as a cautionary tale to guys thinking of leaving early. Ewers, on the other hand….
  8. A place kicker before Quinn…
  9. I’m glad we won but I’m pretty pessimistic about an offensive showing that has Green taking 18 3’s. He’s not going 8 for 18 again.
  10. Slightly disagree--I think they see an organized financial sector and predictable regulatory regime as a function toward profit taking, but elites in all high level decision making capacities appear to believe this chaos falls into the "business as usual" bucket and that institutional inertia will temper the executive's ambitions. They will also gladly kiss the ring because finance runs on greed.
  11. As I was--33rd in PER, tied for 87th in True Shooting. I'm not convinced there's a good, public method of capturing aggregate basketball performance but these seem to corroborate the eyeball test that his shit is weak.
  12. Speaking of Texas' 53rd, I think Andrew Murr posts here as @aggie08
  13. Frustrated with Green's performance, I started taking a closer look at his year-to-year statistical performance improvement and it's really underwhelming. One low-light is that he's not even averaging a steal a game. Tari is getting almost twice as many steals in 8 minutes less game time. Based on Hollinger's PER, he's 33 in the league and tied for 87th among shooting guards. It cannot be that hard to upgrade when teams like Cleveland and OKC have back-ups that far and away are more efficient and would deserve more minutes than Green on this Rocket's team.
  14. Let's be clear, this wasn't intentional but it's the kind of headline making stuff that team Trump encourages. It's far better for the NY Times and it's cohort get hot and bothered about this for a week than talk about the obvious corruption involved implementing a tariff scheme with carve outs to whoever is willing to pay, a golf tournament at Mar-a-Lago feting every gulf oil producer and whoever else is buying Trump and Melania meme coins.

It’s decent, vibe reminds me of Chuy’s before it went corporate and “slightly corny” passed over to superficial and fake. They appear to do a good job managing families.
  16. Yes, but 13 walks. Sounds overwhelmed, which leads to confusion and passivity.
  17. He was pretty well lauded for the Saints of Newark and I think he’s fairly compelling here as a young sycophant a little in over his head. What were in you hoping to get from the performance that you’re not seeing?
  18. I doubt Sinners is the kind of draw a Nolan film is and that requires you get than an hour in advance.
  19. Bear in mind the median age of this board is probably 50, firmly Gen X and has been watching TV unapologetically with subtitles for a decade. TL:DR, they don’t understand white people shit either.
  20. My main issue with USAA was price creep, and that appears to be the most common complaint on the veterans subreddits. Everyone thinks they are better because they bill themselves as veteran focused, but at this point it’s just branding.
  21. You sound like someone that would be wise to shop around and see what other insurers are charging….
  22. Great post; you make me want to go back without kids.
  23. Evidently the dad has burns and broken bones but so far so good on surviving it.
  24. I just drove by, several Texas Gas service trucks were parked nearby.
  25. Apparently it knocked out the windows at Laurel Mountain Elementary.
