  1. Here's a pic of some of some of the construction crew from 1942. Was one of the first construction projects my grandad worked on coming out of the CCC training. I may have an opportunity to get involved with the current work re: groundwater remediation.
  2. Anyone else enjoying today's OXY rocket ride?
  3. Question for folks that may know: I was reading up on descriptions of the thermobaric weapons, and I understood them to be similar to BLEVE explosions. Is that an accurate association?
  4. CNN just ran a story saying it was destroyed, though not sure if they were confirming or just reporting the rumor
  5. Call an ambulance if you're concerned about the roads. I wouldn't fuck around and give that thing a chance to rupture.
  6. On mine, the peg board is on hidden track assembly that's integral/riveted to the main body. There are a couple of angle brackets that you install on the bench when it's raised to secure in place. Not sure if they sell this assembly separately. I installed a couple of Rubbermaid FastTrack shelves above the peg board (high enough not to bump my head) and store my lumber on that. I'd take a picture, but my garage is embarrassingly messy at the moment
  7. I was thinking about doing something like that, but I ended up building a tall workbench on 4in casters and mounted my vice and bench grinder. The table height on the Milwaukee bench sucks for me when I'm doing stand up work. I mainly use it when tinkering with parts and various small mechanical breakdowns (sitting).
  8. I bought the same bench a couple of summers ago. Big fan of it.
  9. Follow up point for those interested: three year olds+ like the songs from Bobs Burgers. Bad Stuff Happens in the Bathroom and Electric Love are the favorites of my kiddos
  10. It's been a while since I've read through this thread and I know it's already been mentioned a few times, but +1 for Bluey. Not only is it bearable to watch, I dare say it's enjoyable. The one where Bandit takes Bluey and Bingo to the pool by himself is as accurate of real life as just about anything I've seen
  11. I was expecting to see a DT thread on this, but did not anticipate most of the comments being of the negative nancy variety. I watched the livestream and thought it was pretty cool for a first attempt with a new model launch vehicle.
  12. Damnit, I wish that would have occurred to me when my mom passed. That's a great idea; likely just as much benefit to everyone around
  13. Tickets for the USS Lexington look to be a little less than half that. I remember going to both when I was 12 or so (couple decades ago); I enjoyed both. The Lexington is probably the better value, but I'd probably pay 40 for the aquarium if my kids wanted to go
  14. Don't hit me with them negative waves
  15. Did a video log on a well bore through the Edwards and into the middle Trinity last year. I was amazed at the size/scale of solution cavities in the Edwards. Was generally aware of them from reading studies/ reports, but seeing it in-situ was pretty neat. Just happy a spider or salamander didn't stick his head out and smile for the camera.
  16. Mexico City is sinking due to subsidence, and at a relatively large and constant scale. The building collapse was likely differential settlement, uneven settlement along its foundation
  17. You're not the only one. I didn't realize it's 'seed' until I read your post above
  18. Pretty nice rain in 78729, currently
  19. Well duh, that's why he's wanting to equip them with front-end loaders.
  20. This is that cell about an hour ago. Wasn't sure if that was a hook at first, but yeah, watching this on radar has been something else
  21. No, grain elevator fires are due to combustion/ explosion of the organic fine particulate. The pole fires are caused because the mist adheres to the dust (not heavy enough to wash the dust away) that accumulated and creates a grounding path.
  22. https://www.kvue.com/amp/article/news/crime/travis-county-deputy-charged-with-child-sexual-assault/269-1eac2d0f-9522-44cb-acf5-dc0890579567 No idea if same guy. Name, age seem to match
  23. Not sure what got me started on it, but I went on kick sophomore and junior year of school where I read through all of McMutry's books outside of the Lonesome Dove series, and then went through everything Cornac McCarthy had put out up to that point. All my Friends and The Crossing have come to mean more to me the older I get. I re read them both evey couple of years.
  24. I generally agree with the last 2/3 of your post. I've thought about the first part a bit before and think you may be overestimating the referenced pilots access to such knowledge. For example, I doubt few, if any, F-4 pilots would have been aware or have the acknowledge to identify the SR-71 had they crossed paths in the early 60s.
