  1. I was expecting to see a DT thread on this, but did not anticipate most of the comments being of the negative nancy variety. I watched the livestream and thought it was pretty cool for a first attempt with a new model launch vehicle.
  2. Damnit, I wish that would have occurred to me when my mom passed. That's a great idea; likely just as much benefit to everyone around
  3. Tickets for the USS Lexington look to be a little less than half that. I remember going to both when I was 12 or so (couple decades ago); I enjoyed both. The Lexington is probably the better value, but I'd probably pay 40 for the aquarium if my kids wanted to go
  4. Don't hit me with them negative waves
  5. Did a video log on a well bore through the Edwards and into the middle Trinity last year. I was amazed at the size/scale of solution cavities in the Edwards. Was generally aware of them from reading studies/ reports, but seeing it in-situ was pretty neat. Just happy a spider or salamander didn't stick his head out and smile for the camera.
  6. Mexico City is sinking due to subsidence, and at a relatively large and constant scale. The building collapse was likely differential settlement, uneven settlement along its foundation
  7. You're not the only one. I didn't realize it's 'seed' until I read your post above
  8. Pretty nice rain in 78729, currently
  9. Well duh, that's why he's wanting to equip them with front-end loaders.
  10. This is that cell about an hour ago. Wasn't sure if that was a hook at first, but yeah, watching this on radar has been something else
  11. No, grain elevator fires are due to combustion/ explosion of the organic fine particulate. The pole fires are caused because the mist adheres to the dust (not heavy enough to wash the dust away) that accumulated and creates a grounding path.
  12. https://www.kvue.com/amp/article/news/crime/travis-county-deputy-charged-with-child-sexual-assault/269-1eac2d0f-9522-44cb-acf5-dc0890579567 No idea if same guy. Name, age seem to match
  13. Not sure what got me started on it, but I went on kick sophomore and junior year of school where I read through all of McMutry's books outside of the Lonesome Dove series, and then went through everything Cornac McCarthy had put out up to that point. All my Friends and The Crossing have come to mean more to me the older I get. I re read them both evey couple of years.
  14. I generally agree with the last 2/3 of your post. I've thought about the first part a bit before and think you may be overestimating the referenced pilots access to such knowledge. For example, I doubt few, if any, F-4 pilots would have been aware or have the acknowledge to identify the SR-71 had they crossed paths in the early 60s.
  15. A buddy sent me these of the AN 124 at Bergstrom the other day. Pretty neat Have a couple videos he sent but it's poor quality; will share if anyone is interested.
  16. This. WUnderground, my equity trading app, and a few others were borked this morning. Un- installing the system webview did the trick
  17. Took the kayak down to bastrop yesterday to try and do a little fishing. No luck finding fish so I decided to paddle around a bit, then came across the remnants of these two. Have heard lots of stories of bucks getting locked up; pretty neat to come across it in the wild.
  18. The news is a little off. You automatically go into boil water notice when certain conditions present, such as low system pressure. The 24 hr bac-t test is used as a confirmation test that it either is or isn't present, so minimum boil notice duration is 24 hours
  19. I've seen it mentioned a couple of times about popping off the meter manhole lid with a screwdriver. I've found that the charging handle of a caulking gun is the prefect tool for this job.
  20. Not really. If the water completely fills the pipe (no air) and begins to freeze, it tries to compress the unfrozen water. But since water is not compressible*, and if it's not allowed to vent, you'll see a pretty significant pressure build up. The freezing water is basically running an uncontrolled hydrostatic test on the piping. I had always assumed it was a hoop stress in the frozen section. Thanks to TwiceHorn for his post a couple nights ago; after thinking about it, his (and phd's) explanations are on the money. *practical truth, not universal
  21. Likely has something to do with the additional fuel that would be required to maintain a stable decent once back in upright position.
  22. Fonda. Just looked at the map and realized not quite as far north as I was remembering. Was there for a family reunion with my wife family.
  23. The days around July 4, 2017 in northwest Iowa were possibly the most prefect in terms of weather that I can remember experiencing
  24. Regarding JoJo, this is spot on (especially for dogs with shepherd in them). In my experience, obedience training won't get rid of this instinct; you have to get more into the attack/guard dog training, and this comes with some other trade offs. She just said enough of this shit and laid down the law to Henry; you are correct in your assessment that Henry's got to go.
  25. Just got back to 78729 from 78749. North side of town has definitely had it heavier than south of about 2222.
