  1. I put our old dog down a little over a year ago. Google photos just put together one of those random albums with him as the subject, which ended with the last photo I took of him, eating McDonald's in the trunk of my car, on the way to the vet for his final visit. What. The. Fuck.
  2. I don't know how things are going to look in a decade with realignment and NIL, but this has been an incredibly enjoyable season, even without Texas' success. The fact that ISU, Indiana, Army/Navy, Boise are all in the hunt for a playoff game is awesome. Watching OU collapse is great. Seeing Vandy knock out Bama, fantastic. Ohio state losing another big game, predictable but highly entertaining. Honestly, I hope some of these power 2 conference teams keep taking losses for maximum playoff chaos.
  3. I always think of him as the corvette and paystub guy. Is that right?
  4. Up to 257k on the PA firewall. Already 2/3 of the way there. If it does stretch out to the desired 390k, how much of a sure thing is PA at that point? Can I buy champagne yet, instead of whiskey?
  5. I had to leave a shift at Gregory to make the Mizzou game a bit after it started. Even at the pool I remember thinking "Holy shit, it's loud tonight".

    $120,000

Redo floors, upstairs bath and do some landscaping projects in the back yard. Plan a family trip to Europe, and ditch the kids and take the wife to South Korea. The boring answer is pay down loans, but I'm going to assume that will arouse suspicion, so going with the fun stuff.
  7. The 2 year-old rocketed a pacifier at the baby's face yesterday, then slapped me when I told him he needs to be careful around the baby. So that's where we are at.
  8. The overlap between your description of Trumper behavior and my toddler when I'm trying to get him back into the car is near complete. Weird...
  9. Hopefully I can tell my newborn that the first longhorn game he was alive for was a curbstomping of OU on the way to a national championship.
  10. To be fair, most of the piss on my pants is from the newborn who just can't seem to keep it in the diaper.
  11. How many hours of daylight up there now?
  12. @Js1, you got those PA daily drops yet?
  13. If you have 5 more apples than I do, and I take away 3 of your apples, who has more apples?
  14. Brennan and Casey Thompson on Saturday
  15. For a longer version, read The Ice at the End of the World, by Jon Gertner.
  16. The last couple of months have been fun, but I'm getting tired of the uncertainty. Either way, I'm ready to find out if democracy is temporarily saved or if it's time to throw in the towel. This shit is exhausting.
  17. I believe it shows how many ballots are returned by each group D/R/I. And Ds outnumbered Rs by 30k
  18. Mild compared to recent summers. Still technically warmer than average historically
  19. In the midst of never-ending Austin summers, I've definitely have had the thought that inland North Carolina would be a good place to relocate. https://www.npr.org/2024/10/09/nx-s1-5137024/climate-haven-hurricane-helene-asheville
  20. It's incredible that these things that weigh less than an ounce cross the Gulf of Mexico without stopping, overnight, twice a year. OK, I'll stop. Back to the hurricane.
  21. My 2 year-old had 3 surgeries (for the same, minor thing) between 2 and 6 months. Fortunately, my wife is a greenspoint nurse and knew all the surgeons and anesthesia providers who would possibly be involved in his care. It was super stressful, but the issue did get resolved without any negative consequences. I get that a 5 year-old is a little different than an infant in that they'll be recognizing to some degree what is going on, but they are quite a bit more resilient than newborns. Generally speaking, the people taking care of your child work exclusively, or nearly exclusively with children and tend to care a bit more in my experience than your average adult provider. Good luck. It's not fun, but having that problem behind you will be a relief.
  22. I think the migrants are smart enough to not fly right into the storm. You can use live radar (birdcast.info) to see where they're moving and basically nothing is passing through Florida at the moment, nor are they expected to tonight. But I guess you are right in that the little guys staging to cross the Gulf that are already in Florida might be in a bit of trouble.
  23. When Harvey hit, there were a bunch of frigatebirds and all sorts of coastal/oceanic terns being seen at Lake Travis and Walter E Long Lake. There will be a bunch of stuff you never see from land being pushed right across the entire state of Florida.
  24. Last night, I got us into a car crash and tried to cover her up with dirt when someone came to investigate. Fortunately, I was with the toddler while she was with the newborn, so she had cooled off by the time I heard of my misdeeds an hour after she woke up. Close call.
  25. They know I'm smarter and at least as informed as they imagine themselves to be. They're probably more confused than disappointed, wondering how they produced 3 liberal atheists.
