  1. I don't remember it happening before, but I don't remember a lot of things these days...
  2. Well, at least we've got that part taken care of. The Rainey Street Drowner will just throw the body in Town Lake. No burial required.
  3. I don't think he ever intended to do anything for Austin, other than line his own pockets and those of his cronies. So from that perspective, he did a fantastic job. Austin has had a lot of dumb mayors and council members, and Austin has had a lot of incompetent mayors and council members, and Austin has even had a handful of opportunistic mayors and council members. But Adler is the first one I really felt was a true crook, the fabled kind of criminal politician that cities like Chicago and New York have been known for over the years. I guess our little Austin is finally growing up.
  4. Seeing a recent blitz for tickets to COTA for the USGP. Single day, 3-day, 2-day, and parking all available. I believe I was told several months ago that this event was sold out...
  5. Xi seems like he sucks.
  6. Not a drop here in NW Travis. Sorry, Charlie.
  7. Nada up here in NW Travis, but it's cloudy and 95 instead of sunny and 105 so that's still a win in my book.
  8. Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and declare US Air Force Academy as the winner of the American University Chapel Wars:
  9. Unpopular opinion, I know, but... I don't really care for breakfast sausage. Yes, I'll take it to that thread over there ---->
  10. No, you're on a jet to Monte Carlo instead. Big baller.
  11. Oh man, in the past this song has been deeply divisive on the Longhorn message boards. But I dig it.
  12. Yes it's definitely less of a problem for local distribution compared to long runs of HV transmission lines.
  13. It's also hilarious. The only thing Texas schools can give is money, but LSU wins on the field. Except that sad sack piece of shit ag team that beat them, on the field, last year. So other than money, and actually winning on the field, LSU has all the advantages.
  14. That unit already has two standard 20A 120VAC outlets, is there a reason you'd want to connect to the RV outlet instead? Anyway, in RV parlance what you're looking for is called a "dogbone" and this one would do the trick: https://www.amazon.com/Camco-Dogbone-Electrical-Innovative-PowerGrip/dp/B000BUQOG8/ref=asc_df_B000BUQOG8/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309819400004&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13553166532755230565&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9028226&hvtargid=pla-448728765006&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=60510211606&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=309819400004&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13553166532755230565&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9028226&hvtargid=pla-448728765006 Overall that looks like a solid unit, assuming it works okay. 57dB is about as quiet as the best Honda, assuming it's as advertised.
  15. Ferranti Rise would be a good name for an emo punk band.
  16. You're right, we shouldn't be discussing energy transmission on the Energy Conservation thread. Tell me all about Charleston, South Carolina...
  17. I have an old boss who always said, "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?" Applies across a broad range of ideas and topics.
  18. Lots of places bury the stepped down local distribution lines. It's most common in modern subdivisions for obvious reasons. Pretty much nobody buries the long distance high voltage transmission lines, although there are a handful of HVDC installations in the US and, apparently, a proposed 800km one in Germany.
  19. I think there's a full replay of that Dallas Grand Prix on Youtube, or at least there was for a long time. I have several friends who've recently jumped into F1 fandom either as a result of Austin hosting the USGP, or getting into DtS. Either way, after they've become accustomed to modern F1, I always insist they watch that race in its entirety. And it never fails to completely overwhelm them, it is just so magnificently ridiculous in every way.
  20. Worst case scenario load loss across the entire state could hit maybe 15%. That's transmission loss plus distribution loss. Typically it would be less than 10% to go across something like 1000 miles. But I mean, that's not peanuts. That 10% drop could mean your power is going to cost you 20% more at the long end of the line, than it would cost you next to the generator. Also, line losses increase with heat. So Texas has that going for it, which is (not) nice.
  21. So bringing dudes to hang out with other dudes at an apartment complex pool and serving bad BBQ, isn't a guaranteed recipe for success? Who knew????
