  1. A decade ago when I worked for a Big 4 firm, one of our Fortune 5 clients had a policy that if they called us on our cellphones and we answered while driving we would be fired. I'm sure I've been the subject of various NextDoor threads because I've pulled over to have phone calls in random neighborhoods or parking lots.
  2. A steamer will give you wrinkle-free clothing. It won't give you creases that aren't already there.
  3. I got a travel steamer for Xmas a few years back. It is way better than the old suit on the back of the bathroom door during a hot shower trick.
  4. In my family, eight weeks of no contact is nothing. After moving out in college, my mom didn't call me for at least five years and then it was only to ask for money. That's not to say we didn't talk, but it was always me reaching out. It's just the way she is with everyone in the family.
  5. The only Hockaday girl I know went to UT and um, yeah, that was backwards in her case.
  6. I suffered from myopathy and cognitive side effects when I was on simvastatin in my late 20s/early 30s. I never had overly dark urine, but my muscle mass went to zero and I had severe problems with weakness. The myopathy was livable. The cognitive side effects? Fuck it, I'll take a heart attack and death. It took three years after discontinuing statins for my mind to return to a semblance of normal functioning. Even now, nine years later, my mental functions are sometimes severely degraded compared to what they were. Of course, that might not have been the statins. They mistook my constant fatigue and mental issues for a variety of things, primarily ADHD and depression, so I went through a lot of different drugs until I told the psychiatrist to fuck off and I'll fix the physiological and social problems in my life first and then see if things improve. Unsurprisingly, they did.
  7. What I hear from my fellow TCU alums is that the financial aid packages mostly suck compared to SMU, Baylor, Trinity, etc. TCU does not use financial aid to attract middle class kids. Instead, its main focus is on people with donation potential and decent scores, not the best students. (This explains their lower test scores compared to most of the other in-state privates.) To bolster the number of non-1%'ers, TCU uses its community scholars program to offer full rides to local, minority students from poor schools.

    Spoof Calls

I've noticed an uptick, but I screen my calls and use DND mode at night, so fuck 'em.
  9. My younger half-sister cleared up the mystery by getting in touch with our unknown half-brother. He was born in 1974 in Fort Worth and was adopted out-of-state via a closed adoption. A 17 year-old mother. My dad would have been 18 when he got her pregnant, though he has no idea who she is. This guy shares about as much of my father's looks as I do, though not so much as my younger half-brother. And that's about all I know. The weirdest part is that he and my older sister share the same name, though with different spelling. We'll see if he wants to get in touch with me once my 23andme results are processed.
  10. Pizza Hut’s $20 box meal is a great deal, but none of the major chains are all that great. If you live in an area with QuikTrip, might as well go there as any of the chains. Just like with burgers, going to a local chain or a hole-in-the-wall is almost always better.
  11. About a decade back, I realized most of my deodorant ended up on my armpit hair. Being a cheap bastard, I started using my electric clippers to shave it off once a week or so. That not only saved money on deodorant, but it also lessened the funk when the deodorant eventually failed. Then, a few years ago, I started using hand sanitizer to clean my armpits at least once a week. After that, my deodorants never fail. I've even switched to a Right Guard gel that doesn't mess up my shirts.
  12. It sucks you in early. You're hooked before it starts dragging. How does it hook you before page 1?
  13. My half-sister used 23andme and found a potential half-brother with a 26% DNA match. To the best of my knowledge, I've never used 23andme. (I even asked my ex-wife if we did way back when.) Even though my mom raised my sister and me on stories of dad cheating and I have corroborating memories from my early childhood, Dad says this guy would have to date from his touring musician days in the early 1970s. My sister was conceived with IVF almost thirty years ago, so it's possible there was a mix-up. Now I kinda have to take 23andme to rule out some things, unless this other guy responds and clears up things.
  14. Like use fAegon to fight a war in the south and Euron's alliance with Cersei is against him? Then Dany comes and burns them both out, perhaps becoming the monster her father wanted to be. Then she meets Jon and goes North. They fuck like champs, defeat the dead, and learn Jon is Aegon. She betrays him, maybe the Dothraki plunder and rape, and he kills her? He exiles himself, Sansa becomes queen in the north and the kingsmoot is held at Winterfell?
  15. Arya will find them on her ship, “The Whorefinder”.
  16. My wife will be sad. This might be her favorite show, up there with Last Man Standing. I hope someone picks it up. Maybe #Catholic twitter will campaign for that.
  17. I probably wouldn't since my son was born when I was 24 and I have no idea if this is a divergent timeline or not. But, in the past, I've thought about this kind of situation way too much for a normal person, (but only along the lines of a one-way, Days of Future Past trip to my younger body), so I'll play along. Because my parents redshirted me in kindergarten, I was a sophomore at TCU when I was 20. 1. You can recover from your less-than-stellar freshman year, you just need to learn how to study and how to write. You can best learn the latter by reading as many Bryan Garner books as possible and taking the advice to heart. The former is best achieved by doing your assignments as soon as possible and using the syllabus to get ahead. Use your knowledge of later course work to formulate questions for class and office hours. Learn the Pomodoro technique for regular studying. Yes, that's P-O-M-O-D-O-R-O. 2. Drinking is largely a waste of money, though scotch can be very nice. Don't bring alcohol to girls, especially underage ones, hoping to get some. You don't need it. If she needs it to fuck you, she's not really into you. You won't lose anything by not fucking her. And avoid drunk girls. Having a clean record and conscience in 20 years is worth it. Why? Think Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas but worse. 3. Don't take German and prob & stats with (blonde girl you've known for ever who, unbeknownst to you, is a newly enrolled freshman). Take Chinese and Calculus 3 with your buddy. Her ex transfers in next year and she is unavailable by the time you figure out she might have interest. Plus the study of vectors in Cal 3 sets you up for a better time in prob & stats, mechanics, and electrostatics. Buy Div, Grad, Curl, and All That, since you suck at Cal 3. Take symbolic logic under math, not philosophy to help fill out your hours for the math double major. 4. You're not fat, just a little overweight and out-of-shape. Here's how you cook and eat. (Ten minute digression.) Here's how you work out. (Another 10 minute digression.) 5. Following up on the last issue, you have a disproportionately long torso and wide feet. (Five minutes explaining clothing and shoe sizes and what actually looks good on you.) 6. (Ten minutes explaining various health, physical and mental, issues and maladies.) 7. (Ten minutes naming names.) Your future wife is X. She's at school at Y. She'll get a job at Z school after school. 8. (Ten minutes talking about career and academic interests and goals.)
  18. How about the Iron Bank hired the Golden Company to betray Cersei? It would be a better fit in explaining the Iron Bank representative's comments about slavery to Cersei. The Braavosi do not deal in slaves.
  19. She's tired and wounded. She was fine sneaking around until there were too many dead and she was spotted. Once that happened, well, a short, tired woman won't always be able to out-run the dead. That's when the panic set in. After a breather, she got over it.
  20. My extended family uses group texts. Two of my cousins, female twins in their early 30s, cannot figure out that they should check the recipients before clicking send. They just find the most recent group text with some of the needed participants, type, and hit send. It doesn't matter if it isn't relevant to half the people on the text.
  21. Her body looked a lot like the body from her rocky beach nude photo shoot. It also looked CGI. Regardless, the combo of the childlike face and the hot bod was quite disturbing. “The dead are already here,” seems like foreshadowing. I’m thinking Jon goes Azor Ahai on dead Dany.
  22. YouTubeTV will now have HGTV? Guess I won't be able to get rid of it once my wife finds out.
  23. I have: 1. Amazon Prime 2. Amazon Drive 3-4. Nintendo and Playstation subs. 5. YouTube TV. 6. Apple Music. Twice a year, during the Xmas and Summer breaks, I re-sub to Netflix. While GoT is running, I re-sub to HBO via Amazon.
