  1. You are right about the Bright part, thinking back. But I still contend Jones treated Landry shabbily, maybe by design, maybe not. It wasn't all Bright. It could have been handled significantly better.
  2. It wasn't the firing of Landry, but how it was handled. A lot of fans had grown accustomed to the class of Landry, and Jones was the polar opposite. Those first SBs happened because he listened to JJ and didn't interfere. And the Walker trade was big. If there was ever a cake to be baked it was the team Switzer stepped into. Like Pescado and Kimball said, it's always been about Jones' ego.
  3. Way was talking about Beard being denied the timeout after the made shot. Would have negated the foul and long shot, most likely.
  4. But you can rest assured that fucked up cup of coffee will mean some money in his pocket.
  5. https://texassports.com/sports/2014/11/19/GEN_1119144623.aspx here's the craig way call. Yeah you are right, I guess I never thought of that
  6. How many of these games are going to be on ESPN+ instead of LHN? Going to be the same for baseball too? I don't see anyplace that lists where all the future games will be broadcast.
  7. That's not stopping #teamred. What kind of record do Huffines or West have? Patrick and Abbott both cut their teeth in lower offices at least. But you are right about the Dems not having much bench. Part of that is they don't get much media coverage here when they are in office, bad or good, with Lina Hidalgo being the exception. Nobody outside El Paso knew who Beto was as a congressman until he ran for senate. I would wager that Crenshaw and Gohmert have much more recognition, and all they have done is serve the same state in the same capacity. Difference is Beto was actually there to represent his constituents, and the other two are there to represent themselves. Hence they say and do so much stupid stuff, intentional or not, to get noticed.
  8. 12 Mighty Orphans. On Amazon Prime. Story of Coach Rusty Russell and his fielding the first football team at the Masonic Home for Orphans in Ft Worth in 1938. It won't win many awards, but it's got a good cast and is well done. Definitely worth the time.
  9. Would be interesting to see a study on this over the past century. Where the money comes from, where it goes. How that has changed over time. If a large blueblood school were to drop football, who would get hurt most? The surrounding community (hotels, restaurants, etc)? The school itself from decreased income and donations?
  10. No, I know it is separate. Just seems somehow out of balance when a school like A&M can carry over debt to the academic side year after year, but then have no issue finding all this NIL donor money. If the money for NIL was there, then it should have been available instead of digging into the academic coffers. Or at least paid back those old debts first. I can't fully explain it, but it just doesn't sit right somehow.
  11. Seems that if an athletic program is not operating in the black, and is partially supported by the academic side, then they shouldn't be using money for NIL for individual players. Seems pretty unfair to the actual students who go without so the athletic dept can have more.
  12. This is a great piece and worth the read. Thanks for posting it.
  13. Might be interesting to reduce conference size to 8 each. Play a round robin with 2 OOC games. No conference championship games. One a patsy and the other a cross conference test. Winner of each conference moves into a playoff system, either 32 or 16. 32 would mean a upper limit of 15 games. That would break up the juggernaut of the SEC. However it might then build conferences that have one heavyweight (say LSU or Bama) and 7 coat-tailers (A&M). Not sure how the parity works out there. But as long as the SEC can keep sending more than one team to the playoffs, they'll be stockpiling the talent. Use bowls as part of the playoffs and maybe have traditional matches, like the Rose Bowl used to hold. All teams, regardless of final record get to continue practices through the end of the season if they wish. That should be the rule now. Playing in some crappy bowl with a 6-6 record shouldn't give you an advantage in practice.
  14. What percentage of Southerners owned fewer than 10 slaves quizlet? (from google) one-quarter of all white families in the south owned slaves nearly half owned fewer than five slaves and nearly three-quarters had fewer than ten slaves. only 12 percent owned twenty or more slaves, and only 1 percent had a hundred or more. So many people still fighting for that 1%. Still fighting that civil war and wanting to reignite it. It's always been about a very few getting grotesquely wealthy off the backs of whoever they can subjugate. And no matter how much they change the way they do it, they have always fired up the dumbasses who will fight for those rich fucks rights to rape our country and whoever they want. 'Murica!
  15. Dominionism is Q with God's seal of approval.
  16. Both wake up and don whatever religious dogma will get them the most attention that day. They have no cores, so therefore no core beliefs other than can seize control of the state. If they need to convince people some god deigned that, then so be it. Good enough for the Sun King, good enough for the Rep. buffoonery.
  17. Yeah, tying it back down to his daughter's TikTok account.
  18. I agree. First it was the stuffed suit Quayle, then the idiot Palin, and they both paved the way for Trump. On the other hand, the further they move the scale to ignorant, the more voters they lose. So maybe there's still a chance. But self serving morons like Manchin and Sinema are like wolves in sheeps' clothing devouring the herd from the inside. Being just like their Republican counterparts, just blocking and never offering any cogent or workable alternatives.
  19. I agree with Brisket on this. Too many people believe that American governance is bulletproof to these types of coups. Just like they believed the Titanic was unsinkable. Until it wasn't. And how long has it been since they removed government from the mandatory list of classes? I blame some of this on the fact that they get the dullest, dumbest people to teach government in high school. Usually a coach. I think eventually the GQP will tell enough lies to enough people and then not follow through, thus they will lose votes. But I fear either the earth will be well past the tipping point by then and/or Bezos and all the other upper elite will have sucked all the money out of the world.
  20. Well you know better than I do. I appreciate the input. I'm still going to watch it though but with eyes wider open.
  21. Not sure if any of our resident lawyers are interested, but I have a registration link for the following MCLE course. It's free and good for one hour of credit. TX Bar Course #: 174144935 Investment Monitor “efforts to undermine the integrity of US elections carry a heavy cost for businesses and could weaken investment in the country.” The authors put a price tag on U.S. political strife. This months CLE features a brilliant expert: Ray Perryman of The Perryman Group. Texas’s voter suppression measures will cost the state $14.7 billion in annual gross product by 2025 and $1.5 trillion over the next 25 years. Texas would lose 73,249 jobs by 2025 as businesses and investment exit Texas. The impact of our state’s oppressive policies is correlated to declining wages. "For the first time since the Cold War, there is now concern about medium and long-term political stability of the US business environment,” Jonathan Wood, lead analyst for North America at global political risk consultancy Control Risks, told the reporters. “And what we are seeing in voter suppression acts and political gerrymandering, etc, is undermining that perception of the US as a very predictable and stable environment.” The Perryman Group concluded: "While there are many other important advantages to, and compelling reasons for, encouraging political participation by all eligible citizens, the economic ramifications are substantial and worthy of significant attention as restrictions on voter access are considered.” It's tomorrow at noon-1:30. Message me for the registration link if interested. I'm not a lawyer, nor play one on TV, but this seems interesting enough to put in an hour or so.
  22. I agree. The thing with this movement is how easy it is to overlook it or minimize it because it seems so preposterous. The idea our country would allow itself to reverse centuries of human rights advancement to set up a Church of England style theocracy is simply too ludicrous to be taken seriously. But then we live in a world where we disregarded the Q movement because their whole pedophile cabal shit. I remember posting here at some point a recommendation to watch The Family on Netflix and it was basically chuckled at because it just seemed too conspiritorical, but it's a thing, and it's another name for dominionism. See the ALEC part of his thesis. I think educating people about this movement in ways that shows just how successful they have been, and the ways and wheres of where this is headed is essential to disarming it. Along with bringing to heel many of our Texas Pols like Patrick (if covid doesn't get him first). I just have to wonder how all the Catholics would feel if they knew their generations to come would be under Texas Baptist Bible Belt rule?
  23. Like slow release cyanide pills with trippy highs as side effects.
  24. Is this where we can discuss Dominionism, or do we have another thread for that? I think it's time. I have a friend who is a retired reporter and has done some research in this recently. I'll put his thesis in quotes so as to not long cat the thread. I know we've touched on it a few times, but it seems to be gaining steam. To me it's another spoke in the wheel to influence voters. Just through different channels, but basically the same authoritarian basis white male supremacy. Here are the actual PDFs for those who would want to follow the citation links.
