I just purchased my two tickets for the winter Porsche Club raffle. The grand prize is a 2026 911 GTS. Second prize is a “regular” 911 Carrera. I have yet to win the raffle. They have two raffles each year and once they reach a certain level of tickets sold they add another car. Kinda cool, although it would be much cooler if I would win one of the cars.

BMW Owners used to do this and may still do it. Around 2001 I thought I had won an M5. They listed the first name and city. I had moved to Austin but they listed my first name and old city which caused me to jump around figuring out what city I listed for registration. Someone else in the old city got a nice car

I’m under no illusions that I will win. The raffle is only open to the club members so I have a better chance than in the PowerBall. I only buy two tickets for each raffle and figure if I am meant to win, I will win. If not, I won’t.

I've spent so much entering that damn raffle that I could've bought a set of GT3 RS wheels....

Bought a new Cadi escslade to tote the kids around.
I tried the lexus gx550, Infiniti qx80 and range rover.
Just couldnt get passed them being so small.
Its been great so far.
Hoping the 6.2 doesnt crater like the ‘24s and below.
Had to go to Central Houston Cadi to get it. Covert/Garlyn Shelton Cadi kept giving me the run around. Didvthecdeal online with CHC. Drove down and picked it up. In and out in under 5 minutes.
They do a ton of Rockets/Texans/Stros cars.

Damn would I love to have a 911. The 911 and 718 are 2 cars that don't ever lose much value. But just paying the taxes on winning one would likely be a lot more than the cost of the average new car.

W114 is the only real Mercedes.

They also give you $35,000 to help with the taxes

An old man (looks like Lute Olsen, except not dead) in my neighborhood has one of these (or some similar V12 of this era). He barely ever gets it above idle, at least whenever I've seen him, but it still sounds like magic whenever it passes by.

And my contribution:

I’m curious how much raffle tickets cost. Two gees?

The raffle closed the other day and in an e-mail from the Club it was said that they are up to four cars, with a possible fifth.

Happy New Year! I finally did a thing I had been mulling over since summer. The original goal was to find something fun, engaging, aggressive, but with a manual. My roster quickly narrowed to the 2017-2019 C7 Z06, which is appreciating in a rapidly opposite direction from the C8, and useable on the street only through the top of 2nd gear. Then the P-car bug bit after looking over a 991.2 T, but every car was PDK equipped-- I could only find the 7MT in base Carerras and really clean 4S or GTS cars are still priced above $100K for some reason, overlapping with 992s.

Then.. there's this BMW Z4 M40i with the Handshalter package, a 2025-26 special before BMW and Magna-Steyr cease production of the Z4 entirely by March. It got the same 6-speed manual and (allegedly) shifter linkage from the Supra, with a remapped EPS rack, revised helper springs and stiffer stabilizer bars. With the 6-speed manual, it gets a shorter final drive ratio in the M240i's M-Performance differential, requiring frequent gear changes. But the color is what really drew me in. Only the Handshalter gets this in Frozen Deep Green Metallic or San Remo Green, the same paint that went on the outgoing F90 M5 CS. There are two versions of the Cognac interior-- black, with M-stripe piping, and the full Cognac, silver piping with door panels and center armrest.

BMW drafted an Internet magazine article on this car, which was the beginning and end of their marketing of this model: https://www.bmw-m.com/en/topics/magazine-article-pool/bmw-z4-m40i-edition-pure-impulse.html

SAVE THE MANUALS.

The BMW Z4 M40i Pure Impulse edition with 6-speed manual gearbox. With the BMW Z4 M40i Pure Impulse edition, the top version of the Roadster is also available with a six-speed manual gearbox for the first time.

My local dealer had a bright blue-on-black (Alcantara) car on their lot, but no green cars. I didn't even bother driving it, but wanted to validate ergonomics and seat position from a car much smaller than I'm used to. Then my sales agent made a call that weekend with their sister store and brought this over to the lot. BMW was offering a sales tax credit on end-of-December deals and I got 3% off MSRP. Made it way too easy and I still hadn't given it a test drive, as BMW's break-in cycle needs 1500 miles first.

I don't plan to drive this much but following the break-in oil change, it's getting a tune and some Supra-developed suspension mods. Factory machined/black wheels are 20" rear, 19" front on Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

That doesn't look like CO. Did you get rid of the Audi or the Rivian to make room for the Bimmer?

Unfortunately it's not and due to a career change, I put the CO move on hold. It's something I hope to revisit in the summer, because this Z4 is part of that CO plan. There's a guy in Castle Rock with a similar spec who posted all his summer drives that made me jealous.

Rivian is still great for a daily, do-it-all, and this leaves me driving the Audi less. I just put it in storage after PPF replacement and a detail, followed by a photo shoot session. I've been thinking of putting it on Bring-a-Trailer, but it hurts me to sell the S6. That C7.5 has so much capability that's hard to match with other platforms. The F90 M5 is faster, but not as comfortable. The C8 platform and Panamera is bigger and too heavy.

I did the same type of thing with a Boxster back in October. Fun car to run around town on the weekends and an occasional track day. Brand new car, going out of production. But I just couldn't pull the trigger on a manual. Wife couldn't drive it ever (a bug or a feature?), and I think I would tire of the manual in Houston traffic quickly. The PDK in the Porsche is plenty fun to drive.
