  • Bullshit.  It's a dick move to knowingly jump in the express line with more items than allowed.  People get in that line to move quick.  It is their business if you fuck that up.

This was our home version of Google when I was a kid in the ‘50s & 60s. Read it for fun quite a bit, as there was a lot of interesting stuff in it.

This week on TPIR:

Lady on Monday was off on her showcase by $411 bucks… and still lost. The winner was only off by $408.

Lady today won both Showcases by only being off by $86 bucks.

Manuela may be the hottest ever on that show.

I don’t know who that is because I have a job, but the answer is Dian Parkinson.

I’m not familiar with Colliers. In our world, posers had World Book. The true nerds had Britannica.

My mom subscribed to Collier’s magazine, so she went with their offering. Britannica was the pricey brand.

And yeah- when I was bored I would just pull a random letter and start reading.

In 5th grade we’d pull the S World Book off the shelf and read the page about sex.

Fuck yeah.

Whenever he had to describe his youngest sister's questionable decision-making and general lack of savvy, my dad would cite the fact that she once bought a set of encyclopedias from a door to door salesman.

Does @KeysPhoneWallet ever post anymore? I’ve said that bastards username to myself daily for the better part of 20 years now

Team true nerds.

Mentioned in another thread that boomers are leaving shit for their kids. My dad still has the set from… 40+ years ago.

Going through my dad's stuff after he passed last March we found at least three medium sized totes of old power cords, cables, and phone extensions. I say at least three because I'm still running across loose ones and small boxes of them. He had two entire totes containing owner's manuals on everything from telephones to boat motors. Power tools, televisions, computers, monitors, electric knives, electric razors, you name it. He kept the manuals on everything, going back to the 50s. It's amazing. And I have to dispose of it all.

My wife and I are gradually but definitely reducing our junk like that so that our kids don't have to go through the same thing when we depart this mortal coil.

A neighbor friend of mine's dad collected manuals like that. Except it was for stuff he never owned. Heavy equipment like John Deere combines, aircraft, industrial machinery, medical appliances. Not a "known" hobby that his wife and kids knew about either. Just a large plastic bin in the garage with dozens of manuals for stuff he never owned or operated. Dude worked at a bank pushing paper.

People with very old cars, but pristine interiors, are terrific people.
