I'm white af.

I read the article. It creates a lot of questions. It definitely, and I personally haven't denied this on this thread, leaves the door open for it being not racially motivated.

However, the only way you can come away thinking that there's no way it was racially motivated is if you already know what you want the answer to be. That article is nebulous, and it's been a week. There are lots of questions. He drove 30 miles from one to another. Have you ever driven in Atlanta? 30 miles is like 8 hours of driving. That doesn't add up if he was just randomly hitting massage parlors.

I'll wait to learn more about it as we go rather than jumping to conclusions. My commentary was purely on the energy being put into defending this guy by the poor mistreated affluent white "minorities are so mean to us" crew. A ton of Americans were murdered in cold blood and you guys are worried about the murderer being unfairly labeled a racist. Your priorities are fucked up.

a dude that will crash a fucking plane into a fucking building is fucking crazy. he's been selected to do so by a guy like osama bin laden, because osama is the charles manson of the thing. he doesn't want to go kill people, but he'll send other fucking nutters to do it.

this dude was also crazy. it takes a kind of crazy to commit mass murder. that this guy thought that murder was his best action speaks to his crazy. anyone who decides murder of other humans is crazy in some way. you can try to finesse any situation you want, but murder is fucking crazy.

why are you going for a distinction here? ask yourself that.

Were Japanese pilots crazy for crashing their own planes into the sides of US ships in the defense of their homeland?

Were American aircrews flying daylight precision bombing raids over Germany in tight formations crazy?  They were required to fly 25 forties before being able to rotate out, with a casualty rate per mission of 25%.  The math all but assured every airman that they would not return if enough raids were flown.

The 911 hijackers I put in this vein.  Not as a measure of admiration of duty, but their willing sacrifice for what they saw/see as the greater good.

Well, you're the expert...

But you still haven't explained why crazy is somehow inconsistent with racist or religious zealot. I guess the question is: why not both? Guaranteed to be both? no. Possible and also consistent with the evidence? Absolutely.

Great, glad we agree on the possibility. And I do think over sexualization is Asian women is much more likely to be a contributing factor than overt hatred.

Asian women probably account for, what....95+% of the demographic for these "spas".  When people bring up crime statistics between races, the oft repeated defense is people commit atrocities around those that they surround themselves with, right?  Seems the same applies here.  My guess, if these were filled with Latin or AA women historically, the demographic of the angst becomes directed at those racial profiles.

We should have an honest discussion about interracial violence. But the left and the media really aren’t interested in that because it won’t advance their agenda.

Then start the thread.

Put your white persecution thesis and its evidentiary support up to scrutiny.

Just because he clipped a few non-Asian customers does not alter his stated motive to “kill all the Asians”

Why did he target massage parlors and not the local Asian grocery store? Because there was a sexual component. No one is denying that.

I think some people think it’s weird that so many people want to deny the racial component.

Maybe you can provide a link to these eyewitness's saying he said "kill all the asians".  Because I checked cnn, msnbc, fox, politico, AP, the police, the AG and anything else I could think of and I can not find a single source to corroborate these claims.  All I can find is one tweet from someone no one has ever heard of.  Amazing that folks come here and claim somone has a preconceived notion or bias that is influencing their thoughths on this deal and then use a non confirmed tweet as a "fact".  I am guessing that if the killer realy said that then all of the politicians and media calling this a hate crime would be all over it.  Because, if he did say that, then it would absolutely be a racially motivated act and a hate crime.  But somehow no one except you experts here are calling this a fact.  Maybe the inept police force and investigators forgot to talk to eye witnesses?  More likely they heard it and then locked the eye witness up in solitary so they can keep claiming this was not racially motivated.

Is anyone accusing you or anyone else of denying the sexual component?  (Unlike the very explicit accusations made in this thread that apparently people are denying this dude is a nutjob lunatic murder.... which nobody has.)

There is prima facie evidence he is deranged, troubled, has sexual issues, hence it's understood why he targeted the "massage" parlors.  He also admitted it to the police.

There is no evidence he was fixated on a racial component outside of 1 single quote from an unnamed source in a single (?) publication.  No uncovered background of internet history, corroboration from associates, etc etc.  And he also denied it in the police interview.  For fucking what?  to lessen 500 years in prison to 400 years?  to preserve his good image of being a mere sex-addicted vagrant than a racist sex-addicted vagrant?

Pssst.. A large number of "massage parlors" are Asian owned.  So are nail salons.  And convenience stores.  I think you are intelligent enough to separate causation from correlation, and what evidence we all of his personal history correlates to these businesses being in his wake.

So absent the proof of his racism (internet postings, previous incidents, neighbor and classmate testimonies, etc) now the question is ... why do so many people want it to be racially-driven so bad?

It's not. It's way too early to tell what really caused the attacks. We might never actually know. If you are trying to ascribe certainty to one side or the other of an "is he racist" debate this early in the game with very limited facts, you have an agenda. I don't recall anyone on this thread saying it was definitely race-based, but I see a bunch of people who are very very sensitive about people being called racists who are foolishly assuming it wasn't race-driven and saying it definitely had nothing to do with it.

It's not hard to figure out why there's a certain group of posters who are really sensitive about people being called racist and run to defend their honor at every opportunity, even if it means defending a person who just murdered a ton of people.

A reasonable version of this conversation:

Quote

Poster A: Hey, this guy shot up a bunch of Asian massage parlors in Atlanta and was headed to Florida to do the same. That is fucked up.

Poster B: Yeah, I wonder if he was specifically targeting Asians, particularly given what a small % of the population they are in Georgia.

Poster A: I think it mainly has to do with sex. That's what he told the police.

Poster B: That makes sense too, but here is this Korean article where a Korean witness says the murder was yelling about killing all Asians.

Poster A: It is weird that the media and/or police have not addressed that statement in anyway. You'd expect it to be the sort of thing that would be quickly picked up and corroborated. I still think the sex thing is the most likely cause.

Instead any mention of a potential racial component is shouted down with: How dare you even bring that up, you shouldn't even think about saying that unless the murder admitted to racism, and that was confirmed by his mom, grandmother, best friend, and at least three of his acquaintances, and all of that needs to be on video before a court reporter and judge.

Sorta kinda this.

It seems likely that this was not SOLELY racially motivated (he didn't just wake up and decide to shoot asians because they were asians), but it's also not likely that it was race-neutral.   And the reason for that is the role and perception of asian women in American society, particularly the branch of society that he was part of -- white, conservative christians.  The image of asian women as sex objects, and sex objects above all else, remains pervasive.  Asian women work in this places because that's what the consumers - American men - want: a rub and tug from an asian woman.

So, this guy's hangups were likely both sexual and race-related, particularly because those are intertwined in this kind of circumstance.

The fact that anti-asian rhetoric has been on the rise is just another disgusting coincidence which surely didn't help, but who knows how much it actually contributed.

Nobody wants it to be racially driven. Most of us just want white people to stop shooting up asian massage parlors full of Asians, shooting up grocery stores in El Paso full of Hispanics, and storming the US Capitol trying to kill the VP and members of Congress because they thought the election was stolen making America look like a bunch of idiots.
