I just want to say this season was the most unsatisfying season I can remember in a long, long time. yeah we sucked for a decade plus but we knew that going into each season. we did not know that this year would end without a playoff berth. I'm so annoyed.  I'm starting to shift my attention and such but dang this sucks.

I was pretty dang satisfied beating OU and A&M in back-to-back years.

Agreed. This was literally the best season possible if we were going to miss the CFP. If we did any better, we would've been in.

Arch made serious strides and finally let his nuts hang. We beat the hell out of A&M, OU, and Arkansas. Sark has casus belli to clean up the shit we've allowed to rot (looking at you, Flood and Banks).

I think this is an inflection point for the team. Progress isn't linear, it goes three steps forward, one step back. This season was a step back, but man... it could have been a lot worse.

I won't fault anyone for feeling unsatisfied, but I am happy about how things went given how I was feeling about our prospects around week 6.

I think we all thought Texas had reached that Bama/Georgia level, where you just reload. We saw some holes in development and roster management. Hoping that gets sorted out this offseason.

Arch is the ONLY part of next year's offense I have confidence in.  The rest looks underwhelming.....at best.

Well we haven’t seen what the portal will bring us so hard to call anything underwhelming at this point.

To reload you actually have to try

Yea I'm going with the season where TC fucking U scored the first 50 on us as the most unsatisfying I can remember.

This years team wasn’t as good as it could have and should have been. But it sure wasn’t that.

Years where we sucked ass I was already prepared for disappointment

3-0 against the three historicals is great for sure still sitting here with a good team that but for some bullshit (mostly self imposed) would be in the playoffs is pissing me off

Considering the way Arch and the o line started, we really should be happy we are finishing top 15.  There was a point after the Florida game where people were wondering if we would go 5-7.

That's a matter of perspective. Sure, there's something to be said for the team not taking a nose dive. However, its also fair to be upset with with the off season and early season coaching choices that put is there in the first place. NFL caliber QBs don't walk on campus regularly and for the 4 since Vince and 2 under Sark it's fair to ask when will we take the next step as a program.

Needing clear changes in GM practices/leadership, and replacing Akina, Banks and Flood in a single off season is not a confidence building reality. None of that even addresses the offensive scheme.

For the money Sark is making and our NIL it feels pretty reasonable to expect more.

you're 100% correct, I'm trying to get there. I just see what was wasted and it irritates the fuck out of me.

I get it. Doesn’t make suck suck any less just because I know it’s coming.

I'm surprised two TEs blocking can't improve the running game.
Which two are playing in 12 most often? Endries and Townsend? I know Shannon is kinda useless.

2 TE’s helps blocking, but it also brings extra defenders into the box. The receivers are also lined up tighter on that set…more defenders. Added shit factor is that with the defenders in close proximity, disguising coverages, extra rushers and run gap assignment is fucking MILES more easy and effective. That makes it tougher on everyone mentally. Often we don’t get pass the recognition phase…to the actual “make the play” phase.

This is still mesmerizing. God damn.

This, THIS, is the type of play that I KNOW he can make but didn't nearly enough this year.  A layered throw with touch, right on the money.

Add in the pocket manipulation(not scrambling, but doing more what Dak does now...sliding, avoiding the rush, buying just a half second more to get the ball off) is a thing of fucking beauty.

Actually, this is a TOUGHER throw than the ones I'm usally on my soap box about(the wide open crossers and slants that are just "Off" throws.)

He does THIS more and he's going to be a fucking stud.

Remember this play. One of the best plays I have seen from a QB. He also layered that in, which is something he needs to work on. He can play in a dirty pocket. He can get through his reads. That is something most draft eligible QBs do not have a ton a film displaying. Hopefully, we get to see what he looks like behind an OL that can give him clean pockets.

Absolutely...maybe it is just the pocket.  But if he makes more throws like this, and not the ones where he misses a wide open crosser, or throws a slant the WR's feet and he'll unlock the offense, and his game, even more.

Well Bama did lose 3 games last year and missed the playoffs too...and honestly, lost 2 games it shouldn't have this year.  Even OSU/Georgia missed the playoffs a couple years ago.  Sometimes you just have a step back...it wasn't much of one considering how bad the OL/Running Game, and even the QB was for stretches.  They still won 9 games, and went 3-2 vs the Top 10 while going 3-0 over our Rivals.

If this is a down year, I can't wait for a "not so down" year, lol.

Yep. I posted this GIF in the Wingo thread, but I find this mesmerizing as well...

I know we ALL thought Arch had overthrown this after making an amazing play to escape the pocket...but the much maligned Wingo made a great fucking catch here too.  Sometimes you just need both guys to help each other out.
