My day is coming soon LTxfan and Honolulu Horn.  I think 66 is  next Wednesday?  Dad is now 82 and I told him a couple years ago that I posted his picture on a Longhorn online fan board. He only responded with why?  I didn’t do much.

Hook’em!!!

Yeah he didn't do much, just won a National Championship, no big deal lol

I was thinking surfing while a couple cold ones were already in me, thus Longboard Horn changed to Honolulu Horn over night. Both fit you and are cool, but sorry for the name mistake.

All good. Though Honolulu Horn is probably a lot better than me at surfing since he lives closer to the ocean.

Dad was a “practice” or Scout team player his whole time on The 40.  He was standing close to DKR with about 3 minutes left in the game vs Navy.  DKR asked have played a snap, which Dad said only on KOs.  DKR said go out there son, which my Dad asked which position?  DKR said I don’t care, just send someone off the field!  Thus my Father “lettered” in his Senior season - final game.  ST plays don’t count towards statistics, unless the person runs/catches the ball.

He truly was “Rudy” before there was a Rudy!  David McWilliams can attest, as they were roommates for over a couple of years.

Didn’t like it and told me not to even read it.  Loved DKR - I’ll leave it at that.

He had 50+ stitches to his face alone and they had face masks back then.  Dad hated having to practice against Tommy Nobis, who was also an OL early in his time on The 40.

The Pitt game was hot as hell, or so it seemed at the time.  Went to the Rice game either last year or the year before at it 100+ at kickoff.

The bottom photo from the Syracuse game ended up 21-21.  They were a top 10 team the year before and were 2-0 coming into Austin.  They wound up 6-4-1; we were 5-5-1 in Mackovic's second year.  Things are so much better these days.

Back then practice was “practice” Allen Iverson quote, but they were in full pads Tuesday through Thursday.  Full contact and you better keep your head on a swivel if you were on the scout team.

That Syracuse game was way hotter than Pitt, though both were miserable. Pearl Jam played an iconic show at South Park Meadow the night of the Pitt game; great weekend!

Longboard Horn, with your vast amount of pictures, do you a decent one to share when #52 comes around.  I grew up knowing Mical Padgett (LB late 80-91/92)?  Dad told David McWilliams about Mical after his freshman year, starting on the varsity at H-J.  He was already the best athlete on our team his freshman year!  He was a year ahead of me in school.

Mical looked like Nolan Ryan pitching LL baseball when in Jr High, as he was already damn near 6’ tall.  Not terribly consistent with throws, but he was the first person that I ever heard the ball through the air on the way to the catcher.  I’d basically step in the bucket with eyes closed with my bat stuck out there hoping for a “bunt!”

I've mentioned a few (too many) times I'm related him.  He's a photo from a family reunion a few years ago:
