Las Vegas go hard or go home thread

I was there a couple weeks ago.  I would say table minimums were similar(perhaps slightly lower)to Pre-Covid.

I didn’t see anything out of the normal Vegas atmosphere that made me sketched out in regards to crime or potential crime.

It was noticeably less crowded than normal, but I was expecting that.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Beginning Oct. 19, Encore at Wynn Las Vegas will alter its operating hours due to low demand.

The resort closed at noon on Monday, and will reopen at 2 p.m. every Thursday.

Encore will operate on a five-day, four-night schedule “until consumer demand for Las Vegas increases,” Wynn announced Tuesday.

Hotel guests will be able to check in at Encore beginning at 2 p.m. on Thursdays, and final check out will be noon on Mondays.

The Poker Room at Encore will temporarily move to Wynn Las Vegas beginning October 19 and operate 7 days a week, the resort noted. The Poker area will be located on the casino floor near the Wynn self-park garage.

All other amenities at Encore, including all restaurants, will operate during Encore’s revised business hours, Thursday to Sunday.

OK biggie, I gotta swing through Vegas on the 25-26th, what's a somewhat cheap place to stay where I won't get my organs harvested?

I haven’t been out there during this recent stretch. But in the past, I would recommend Tuscany Suites to folks looking for a cheaper place to stay. Not luxurious but just east of center Strip, has decent restaurants and coffee shop and a pool and a small casino. Well known by locals.

On the Strip, not sure. They are all upping security right now. Traditionally the Wynn does the best job in this regard but they did have issues awhile ago. I think they are getting a handle on it. You could check one of the MGM properties, one of those should be low rates. Just depends what you are looking for and if location matters. Park MGM is now non-smoking.

Wow...that’s pretty huge.  Sounds like Monday through Wednesday would have been a good time to go

Yep. Vegas is just trying to get past this and back to when the big conventions will be operating. So for now it’s fairly busy on weekends with mostly drive-in traffic from CA and AZ and some visitors flying in domestically. Room rates have been really cheap early and mid-week.

Big Elvis has made more comebacks than the real Elvis. Long-running Strip favorite Pete Vallee has returned his newly minted tribute to the King to Piano Bar at Harrah’s.

The big fella and able sound man/guest singer Josh Baron are back from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Vallee reopened last week after being away from the stage as bars were shut down a second time for COVID concerns in July.

Tuscany Suites is great. Short walk/Uber back to the strip. Huge rooms, nice smallish casino, cool craft beer bar. I stayed there a few years ago at the rec of some surly member and was impressed.

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is set to offer guests a “modern desert oasis” early next year with a 5-acre pool and entertainment complex.

A Friday press release said its outdoor offerings will include a resort pool, dayclub, promenade, and event lawn.

“Our new pool and entertainment complex will connect the entire property,” said Richard “Boz” Bosworth, President and CEO of JC Hospitality, owner of Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, in a statement.

Formerly the Hard Rock Hotel, the property is undergoing renovations and is slated to open Jan. 15. Some of its outdoor offerings will open at a later date.

The Mediterranean-style pool, with a March opening, will include VIP-style cabanas and daybeds. It will align with The Promenade, a pathway that includes an event lawn and multiple restaurants, including chef Todd English’s Olives; Hakkasan Group’s Casa Calavera; restaurateur Nick Mather’s Kassi Beach Club; and Money, Baby!, a sports and entertainment venue that includes a patio that overhangs the resort pool.

Each restaurant will have outdoor seating and views of the pools and event lawn, according to the statement.

The event lawn will host concerts and private events, and connects to The Manor, an indoor event space near the resort pool and promenade.

The property’s Mykonos-themed, two-story dayclub will include an open-air stage for a music festival-feel. There will also be multi-level bar experiences and a poolside restaurant. The club is set to open in April.

Virgin Hotels, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, will feature three hotel towers with more than 1,500 rooms and a 60,000-square-foot Mohegan Sun Casino.

On Thursday, Nevada gaming regulators approved the licensing of Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment; it will be the first tribal gaming enterprise to operate a casino in the Las Vegas resort corridor.

And I thought I was hot shit for winning a $1000 hand with a full house last week. Better than losing I guess. Side note: I know a woman from Temple that won $1.3M on a mega progressive 3 Card Poker game earlier this year. I think it was at a casino in Lake Tahoe.

I saw a woman last week win $23k on a slot machine and they gave it to her all in cash. Little old lady was given 2 stacks of $10k plus a bunch of 100's and 50's. Security walked her out the door then she was on her own.

My friend that won $1.3M was given choices. She took a check for $900k, $200k in chips and the rest in cash. She was also given a tax form for her to pay at a later date.

A table next to mine hit the bad beat jackpot for a couple hundred thousand at Talking Stick in AZ.  They took everyone in the back and apparently gave them cash (that's what our dealer said they were doing).  Because they all came back to their seats, women all clutching their purses like someone was going to steal it at any moment.  Table broke about 3 minutes after they got out of the back room.

How much of the $400k did your friend come home with?  That's a decision she must regret if she blew that money.

About half. She was with a group of 10 and they lived it up for 2 weeks. From my understanding they went to Vegas the following day and she picked up the bill for everyone.

Yep.  Those people are in the late 60’s so why not live it up. I would do the same. I never plan on coming back with Vegas money when I go so it’s not like I “needed” that money. If I won that much I would do what I could with the money I ended up with and not look back on the money I spent while having a great time.

Reminds me of a time I was in Vegas with a buddy when we were in our early twenties.  He somehow got really hot playing blackjack and went on a ridiculous run.  Dude is one of the cheapest, most conservative guys I know.  Just kept winning and the next thing I know, we’ve got a pit boss coming over to offer us a bunch of comps.  We were such amateurs, we didn’t even know what to do with them.  He finally walks away from the table up about $19K which, at that time, for us, was a shit load of money.  We went to the titter and he got a little bit of VIP room time with some chick he fell in love with (he’s a big fat fucker so that happens a lot) but overall, he wasn’t parting with much of that money.  After a few mostly regretful daytime strip club hours, we stumbled out and hit the Rolex store on our way back to our rooms.  He had a badass one for about $15K picked out and ready to buy but he just couldn’t pull the trigger.  Even drunk and having just had the girl of his dreams throwing herself at him (at least in his mind), he came up with every reason under the sun why buying that watch was a bad idea.  So we walked.  Lost back the $19K plus about another thousand by the end of the weekend.  I still bust his balls all the time about not buying that Rolex.

EaterLV:

Since 2014, the 14,900-square-foot food court at Caesars Palace has stepped up its fast-food options with seafood, ice cream, pizza, and ramen, but now the Forum Food Court gets set for a major overhaul.

Caesars Palace filed paperwork for a remodel with an estimated $1,159,411 budget assigned for a construction remodel at the Forum Food Court. Only DiFara Pizza remains open behind walls of plywood. Starbucks is currently manning a temporary stand across the casino floor.

Working under the name of Slice Bar and Cypress Food Court, the venues’ previous names before its last big change in 2014, the 5,710-square-foot makeover will include removing the existing raised floor and employing an additional estimated budget of $2,612,403 to upgrade the central bar.

The food court is still listed as partly open for business, but before the hiatus, the food court hosted Smashburger, Tiger Wok & Ramen, Crepes and More, Earl of Sandwich, The Halal Guys, Taco, and Smoke & Sizzle Barbecue. A possible return date has not been posted.
