  1. Past hour
  2. IT stuff: Some Saturday afternoon quick hitters for you. The team will take to the practice field at 5:30 again today before being off on Sunday. Star This has probably been the position of greatest mystery the last couple of months. Wardell Mack and Graceson Littleton played Star (nickel) a lot during the spring and continue to do so. But, sources and logic lead us to the opinion that a more experienced veteran will get the start against Ohio State. Enter…Michael Taaffe. The senior second-team All-American safety first made waves in the program at the position and he’s been there a pretty decent amount in the first three practices. He has looked good at the spot (one of the first players mentioned), though he has also worked at safety. While at safety he’s with Jelani McDonald. When Taaffe goes to Star, McDonald has been paired with Derek Williams, Xavier Filsaime, and Jordon Johnson-Rubell. On the surface, it seems unlikely Taaffe would play Star outside of certain looks—he’s the main communicator, after all, and he’s unlikely to play the position in the NFL. But, he has the experience, intelligence, and selflessness to do it. We’ll continue monitoring to see how it plays out. Ryan Wingo and DJ Campbell The sophomore wide receiver and senior offensive guard participated in the first practice but missed the second and third. Smart money says they won’t be back until Monday. While the issues aren’t something that should hamper them long term, they could each use a very productive August to springboard into the season. They are two of the most important players to Texas’ success this year. CJ Baxter is turning heads The third-year running back looks pretty damn healthy. I haven’t heard he’s 100% but did hear he impressed in Friday’s thud tempo practice. Just him being out there is a big win. Not only does he appear healthy after his significant knee injury, he’s also carrying his weight as well as can be expected given the layoff. Should we have expectations for him against Ohio State? Based on the first three practices, a trusted IT source believes Baxter will be available and play in Week 1. Two Friday standouts Junior linebacker Liona Lefau was mentioned for his ability in coverage. He’s a smart player who is always where he’s supposed to be. “When they’re in zone he’s like having another DB out there.” Redshirt freshman quarterback Trey Owens had one of his best practices ever. When Sark brought in Matthew Caldwell he challenged the other quarterbacks to beat him out. Owens apparently took that to heart.
  3. Mrs. Doom turns fifty in the not-too-distant future. I have been nagging the boy about figuring out what he wants to get her (with the understanding that I would pay for it), and the other day, he finally had it figured out. He wanted to get her this exact pendant: I told him there was no way in hell I was going to spend $700 on that, and proposed getting something visually similar but in the range of $50 or less. In case it needs to be said, this is not Mrs. Doom's style. At all. It would never be worn outside the house. He got really upset with me, and was incensed that I would even suggest such a thing - "But it won't be real, Dad. It will be fake." So he decided that she needs a purple t-shirt that says, "this is what the mother of the world's best basketball player looks like". This was the closest thing we could find: But I secretly went ahead and ordered this for her as well.
  4. Dat you? Yeah, dat me.
  5. Hardly where he deserves criticism.
  6. Fuck Nice play but acts like he's never done it before.
  7. Dammit ...see Garcia....that's how you play outfield...
  8. Don't worry its not like Okert has been sucking or anything
  9. I agree. It's not the fall that kills you.
  10. that was all pretty disappointing In the end
  11. Oh, good. Another man in scoring position with two outs. Neat.
  12. I had really hoped for 5-2 on this road trip. Fucking fuck
  13. Ok, deep breaths. Tied. We need a big inning badly
  14. Kelly went from new hero to zero quickly
  15. This was a somewhat prophetic quote from an article posted on USA Today Cowboyswire the other day, via The Athletic History says Cowboys will get Micah Parsons deal done — but when? :: The Athletic Link “He’s getting paid,” Jerry Jones said of his star edge rusher. “He gets about $20-some million right now. And that’s a pretty easy $20 million standing there watching practice." But the longer this goes on, the tougher it will be for Parsons to stay on the sideline and not talk to reporters. In some ways, he’s like the Jerry Jones of players; he enjoys the media side of the job. What gets said- by both parties- in the meantime may prove to be the most interesting part of this standoff.
  16. Even our booth is under attack. This West Coast trip is bad news.
  17. Absolutely braindead play by Kelly....That is baseball 101... WTF?!
  18. this thread's quiet enough so surely nobody will mind a short clip of Caleb Williams at (edit) this week's drills
  19. Ok, balk, bad play, whatever, but lifting him at 69 pitches?
  20. Holy fucking shit if we get out of this inning less than 6 down I’ll be shocked. Merrill you dipshit
  21. What the living f was that?
  22. In a world where anything goes as planned for the '25 Astros, Smith gets frequent days off, accounting for the fact that he has only spent 32 games in the minors and has never played anything remotely close to a 162-game season.
