  1. TIL that Etsy owned Reverb Today, I’m excited to share that two new investors—Creator Partners and Servco—have entered an agreement to purchase Reverb from Etsy. Once the deal closes, we’ll be a privately-held, independently operated company backed by two investors who bring a passion for the musical instrument industry as well as a community-first approach and a deep desire to help transform creative industries for the better. Getting closer to our musical roots This next chapter for Reverb will bring us even closer to our musical roots. If you’re not familiar, Creator Partners is an investment company focused on digital transformation of creative industries, with current music investments including BMI, SoundCloud, Colors+Studios and Mogul. As for Servco, they’ve been involved in the musical instrument industry since 1937, including a long history with Fender—first as a dealer of Fender music gear in the 1950s, then as part of the group that bought the company from CBS in 1985 and now as the majority owner of the company, as well as an active investor in other musical instruments businesses. The musicians, shops, and brands who use Reverb have always been at the center of all that we do and these two partners will help us support our community in new and better ways. What this means for our community When this deal is complete in the coming weeks, we’ll return to operating as a standalone business. We won’t be merging with either investor, or any of the other companies in their portfolios, and our team will remain intact. In short, you can continue buying and selling on Reverb as you normally would without any disruption. That said, we hope you do notice positive changes as we continue to focus on making Reverb the best place to buy and sell music gear. Here’s just a sampling of what we’ve already got in the works: We’ve been working to make more music-making software available on Reverb so you can change up your sound, even if you’re limited on space or money. We’re getting ready to pilot a new option for selling that allows you to get paid faster and drop off your gear locally, without needing to create a listing or ship. We’ve got teams working on making it easier to find what you’re looking for on Reverb, ship your items safely, and resolve your support issues quickly. Here’s to what's next Reverb was created for musicians by musicians as a way to connect buyers, sellers, and lovers of music gear—and since 2013, we’ve helped millions do just that. Over the past five years, we’ve learned a lot from Etsy as we’ve expanded our community. As we look ahead, with a focus on growing the entire industry by helping more people buy and sell used music gear, we’re excited to align ourselves with two new partners who share our passion and focus. Whether you just bought your first piece of gear on Reverb this year or you’ve been selling on Reverb for more than a decade, thank you. We’re grateful to play a part in your musical journey and we’re excited to have you onboard for Reverb’s next chapter. David Mandelbrot Reverb CEO
  2. I only did it for a dozen years, and I still do, but not nearly as much. I was responsible (and successful) for getting financing for our centers...construction, operating loans, equipment leases, etc. One of the members of our flagship surgery center asked me for help getting her financing for an in-office MRI machine. Sure doc, no problem. I can come to your office next Wednesday. Please have your bank statements and other financials ready for me. She literally bounced dozens of checks every month. I don't want to dox her, but, for a certain specialty of women's health, she's the premiere surgeon in Orange County, and arguably in all of So Cal. Just a total dumbshit anywhere outside of the O.R.

  9. Sellers used to pay the commission for the buyer's agents. Since a big lawsuit last year, that's no longer the case. Now the buyer's are responsible for paying their own agent's commission. Sellers may or may not pay all or part of it. Before August, I could look at a house on the MLS, say 123 Main St, Anytown USA, and there was a line on the MLS that told what commission was being offered by the seller. So, I knew what I would be paid if I repped a buyer on that particular house. Now, it's up to me and my buyer to determine what commission he's willing to pay, and I am willing to accept. From a practical standpoint, the seller now receives an offer, and another form (the name varies per state) which says if the buyer is asking the seller to pay the buyer agent's commission. So, with my clients, I simply show them a "net sheet". Buyer A is offering X and asking for you to pay for title, escrow, and commission and you will net Y after all of that. The seller can choose the offer that puts the most cash in their pocket at the end of the day.
  10. if you haven't been paying attention, be advised that your realtor will ask you to sign a representation agreement. It's a new thing, and it's legit.

  16. I was married to a woman that wanted horses, and I spent a fucking fortune on horses trying to keep her happy (it didn't work). Anyway, we had this vet...really nice guy who had 30 years experience. He went to vet school in Kentucky, and practiced there for many years. One day his biggest client approached him and told him that they were moving their entire operation to So. Cal, and wanted him to come with them. They stuck a deal where they guaranteed him a certain income until he could build his practice up with other clients. So, after having an equine-only practice for 20 years, he's up until 3 AM every night studying hamsters and shit so he can pass the CA license exam.

  18. pros and cons: it won't be an easy property to sell, and it will take a long time. OTOH, there will be no open houses, no showings, and no staging, etc. An agent will do a fair amount of work on the front end, list the fucker, and then wait, perhaps months, for the phone to ring.

  21. Election denier and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell continues to refuse to pay more than $50,000 in sanctions he has been ordered to pay to voting software company Smartmatic over "frivolous" election claims -- alleging he's left with no money after numerous legal battles. "I'm in ruins," a teary Lindell said through a Zoom screen during a motion hearing in the U.S. District Court in Washington on Wednesday, pleading to Judge Carl Nichols to allow him to wait until after the final judgement comes out to make any payment in the case, which he has already lost. Last month, Smartmatic filed a motion to hold Lindell in contempt, alleging the MyPillow CEO has been dodging his court-ordered payment of $56,369 to Smartmatic for months. Lindell, however, insisted that he does not have the means to pay the amount due to various financial difficulties he has suffered over the last few years due to what he again claimed was "lawfare" waged against him for trying to "secure the election." "I borrowed everything I can. Nobody will lend me any money anymore," Lindell claimed. "I can't turn back time ... but I will tell you, I don't have any money." Lindell claimed he was recently forced to lay off hundreds of MyPillow employees, lost multiple MyPillow warehouse units over the past two years and even owes millions of dollars to the IRS for what he described as a COVID-era employee retention credit. He claimed he has "nothing" except for two houses, which he claimed are in the process of being liquidated, and a truck. He even claimed he can no longer adhere to a previously proposed plan of making monthly installments of $5,000. After listening through Lindell's plight, Nichols acknowledged that these claims are "non-verifiable representation" at the moment and gave Lindell until Friday to file under seal financial statements and other documents to prove his claims. "I have nothing to hide," Lindell said as he agreed to do so and added he wants Smartmatic to see the financial situation he's in as well. Smartmatic's attorney said his client would prefer to see the payment made in a lump sum as soon as possible but acknowledged he would respect the judge's ruling. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/im-ruins-teary-mike-lindell-tells-judge-smartmatic/story?id=120887538
