  1. That's just damn good parenting right there.
  2. Never seen him play the piano... Thanks for the info.
  3. I can't wait to get to the bar next to the office and find that the people with all of the medical degrees during COVID are now experts on deep water exploration and recovery.
  4. I heard David Pogue interviewed today the 5 Things news podcast. Link in article. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/06/20/david-pogue-titanic-submarine-video-cbs/70340223007/
  5. I hope that has some of the Kim Richey stuff on it. I told her that my favorite part of that record was hearing her harmony vocals "Relatively Easy" and "Stockholm". She had the biggest smile and said, "Thanks for recognizing that. It was sooooo much fun and so nice of him to ask me to do that." He also had Abby Owens sing on the album version of "Heart On A String". I like Amanda's background vocals on certain songs, but her voice isn't as smooth as some songs seem to need.
  6. I actually dig that 3rd one because it is so different than most.
  7. Darden Smith recently did a "Talking About Songs" where he takes songs apart to see how they were constructed. His one for "Cover Me Up" is fascinating. https://www.instagram.com/p/CrwhxwJv6YW/?hl=en
  8. Great story. Been a huge fan of Gurf's since his early time with Lucinda. I LOVED his guitar work on that early stuff. Then, in 96/97 I was eating in a little bar in Arlington, VA and this dude walks in and starts loading in some equipment. He sat a box of CDs on the bar and I started going through them. I found the most recent one and noticed that Gurf produced it and thought, "I've never heard of Slaid Cleaves, but I believe I'll stick around for the show." I've seen him play with Lucinda, Slaid, Patty Griffin and Buddy/Julie Miller. He always seems to be around my favorite artists. If I see him in the credits, I buy it.
  9. Damn @tbone_ Nailed that Wachtel tone.....and my arm gets tired just listening to those 16th notes. I had Waddy interviewed about that and he said he had to get into shape before going on tour with her because of that song. Great job and the harmony voices to everyone! Good stuff.
  10. I never really knew anything about him until he showed up in the "Do They Know It's Christmas" video. Very unique voice that I couldn't describe.
  11. "Schinder’s work can be read in Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, Time Out New York, the Austin Chronicle, Please Kill Me, Creem, Musician, Newsday, Stereophile, Musician, Tower Pulse, New Musical Express, Melody Maker, Texas Music, SXSWorld and probably many others." https://variety.com/2023/music/news/scott-schinder-music-writer-dead-dies-1235640897/ Samples of his work on Please Kill Me: https://pleasekillme.com/author/sschinder/ His 2020 article about Badfinger is a great read. I always loved his stories.
  12. Just listened. Buckley just covered Cale's version as far as the verses.
  13. All of the verses were by Cohen. He changed some of the lyrics between the 84 and the 88 versions that he released. Jeff Buckley used 2 verses from the 84 version and 3 from the 88 version in his 94 version. I'll have to go back and listen to the John Cale version from the "I'm Your Fan" compilation (91). I also HATE Buckley's version. He lucked out by them letting him put his version on the soundtrack, even though they used a shortened version of Cale's in the movie.
  14. The Cohen documentary talks a lot about the different verses and how they changed over time, both by Cohen and then by the folks behind Rufus Wainwright's version. I keep of list of my funeral songs: Go In Peace: Sam Baker Summer's End: John Prine Dreaming: Bruce and Kelly (also about summer ending) Heading for the Light: Traveling Wilburys
  15. Peaceful thoughts @tbone_

    Fruit Bats

This was the first song that got my attention a few years ago.
  17. Forgot he did this on Live Aid. And listen to what Pino does on the bass. Kind of returns the urgency to the song.
  18. Paul Young had a kick ass version of Jack's song, "Come Back and Stay" (along with a typical 80s video with hot chicks) but Jack's version had a sense of urgency. I need to dig out my vinyl copy. I think I first heard this on some sampler. Paul Young's version so we can look at hot chicks.
  19. Couple of Isbell goodies: Short article in Southern Living, mostly about Prine https://www.southernliving.com/jason-isbell-john-prine-7508532 Full Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jason-isbells-cast-iron-skillet/id1510623480?i=1000615835139
  20. Taking cues from the Catholic Church. "Sure, you can get an annulment. How much money do you make?"
  21. Finally got to see it. Man, I had forgotten how cute Victoria Williams was....what a smile in those early clips. That version of "Two Angels" was incredible, as was watching Peter's reaction. I also wish they had spent more time on his getting to SF and his early time there. Also, I wish they had talked to some of the people who helped him on those early records. T-Bone Burnett, John Hiatt, Keltner, Scheff, Fromm, etc. It was cool they talked with Marvin Etzione. Always loved that dude. Jake Lee damn sure got his screen time. I talked to Peter on the second solo album tour and he said that Eddie was going fine so I assume they still got along. It's depressing to me what GREAT music he put out and never really gets the recognition he deserves. He is a FANTASTIC song writer.
