  1. No he is not, my bad. At one of Herman's press conf he mentioned Smith was elected to something, maybe the leadership council ? https://247sports.com/college/texas/Article/Texas-Longhorns-football-captains-Sam-Ehlinger-Joseph-Ossai-Samuel-Cosmi-Derek-Kerstetter-Chris-Brown-TaQuon-Graham-Caden-Sterns-151326567/
  2. Herman also said Sterns injured his foot in practice this week and couldn't play. Previously reported ? . Not good when two team captains do not play in the OU game. Locker room turmoil ? The tone of Herman's voice/demeanor announcing the injuries in the press conf seemed suspect.
  3. Says it all: Yet the Yankees entered Game 3 of their ALDS showdown versus Tampa Bay on Wednesday with the series knotted at 1-1. The Yanks then lost 8-4. Their season is now on the brink, in large part because of skipper Aaron Boone's head-scratching overmanagement. After that, Boone faced tough choices in the starting corps. Masahiro Tanaka posted a 3.56 ERA in 48 frames this year. He wobbled in a rain-interrupted Game 2 start against Cleveland, surrendering six runs in four innings, but he seemed like the best choice to go Tuesday on what would have been five days' rest. Instead, Boone turned to 21-year-old rookie right-hander Deivi Garcia, who carried a grand total of 34.1 big league innings into his Game 2 start. Garcia coughed up a solo home run to red-hot postseason legend-in-the-making Randy Arozarena in one inning of work before ceding the mound to J.A. Happ. The veteran southpaw promptly surrendered four runs on five hits and three walks in 2.2 innings. Just like that, Boone had burned through a pair of starters with precious little to show for it. It was apparently a bait-and-switch attempt to catch the Rays off-guard. Asked what he thought about the strategy after the fact, Happ repeatedly declined to comment, telling reporters, "I'll let Aaron speak to that." Happ added that he "didn't get into a groove" after being called upon in Game 2. Boone later told reporters he got Happ "on board with exactly the plan, because it was outside his normal routine. That's something with a player, we want to have them involved with and in the loop." If that sounds like the Yankees skipper covering his tracks, well, maybe it's because he was. There was ostensibly a method to the madness. Happ came in to face the Rays' lefty-heavy lineup. However, he allowed five of the eight left-handed hitters he faced to reach base. It was a shaky gambit from the start. Up 1-0 in the series with their offense rolling, the Yankees essentially opted for a bullpen game in a series that features no off days. Starting Tanaka in Game 2 would have made more sense. Starting Happ and letting him take the hill with a normal routine would have made more sense. Giving the youthful Garcia more rope would have made more sense. Instead, Boone—and general manager Brian Cashman—outsmarted themselves, as Mike Vaccaro of the New York Post noted. "If a 1-0 lead in a best-of-five without home field isn't exactly playing with the house's money, it's still the best place to be after one game on neutral grounds. No need to start overthinking stuff. No need to make a simple game harder than it has to be. No need to be too clever by half. But the Yankees couldn't help themselves." Tanaka could have eased the pain by pitching the Yankees to a win in Game 3. He didn't, allowing five runs in four innings, and now it comes down to Thursday. Jordan Montgomery, who posted a 5.11 ERA in 44 regular-season innings and hasn't pitched since Sept. 24, will get the ball in Game 4 for New York. The Rays could end things before Cole gets another turn. In the end, this might simply be an issue of the Yankees not having enough starting pitching. Cole can't shoulder the load by himself, even with a cadre of sluggers and a playoff-tested bullpen behind him. But Boone and Co. took a weakness and amplified it. The bats may save them. And if they can eke out a win in Game 4, Cole will again be available to take the ball in the winner-take-all Game 5. Win or lose, they'll surely spend the offseason shopping for arms, especially with Tanaka set to hit free agency. And if they fall short of title No. 28, they'll be left wondering if they got too clever by half. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2912500-aaron-boones-bewildering-overmanagement-puts-yankees-on-the-brink-vs-rays
  4. From Max Duggan's profile. One of these is not like the others. chose TCU over Georgia, Penn State, Notre Dame and Ohio State. https://gofrogs.com/sports/football/roster/max-duggan/11307
  5. Say no more. Herman is now 1-11 in three-plus seasons at UT whenever the Horns are trailing going into the fourth quarter. The lone win came last week at Texas Tech. He’s also 2-12 when Texas trails at halftime. https://www.hookem.com/story/20201003/tcu-33-no-9-texas-31-another-winnable-game-disappears-university-deserves-better/
  6. Disappointed there have been no Fall practice reports which began in early Sep. Sthele (pronounced Steely) will be missed. Saw him in baseball playoffs in '19 vs Westlake. "makeup and competitiveness" is correct along with leadership - like Sam Ehlinger. Starting QB for SA Reagan since sophomore year. Google search seems he may have been overworked in '19, likely played this Summer. Excerpts. Link has vid and interview. Story is from '19. Sthele has been the Rattlers' starting quarterback since his sophomore season. He passed for 2,169 yards and 19 touchdowns last year, when Reagan advanced to the playoffs for the 12th time in 13 seasons. Sthele, who has committed to play baseball at Texas, has been resting after a busy summer on the diamond. "There is no injury," Reagan football coach Lyndon Hamilton said. "This is strictly a preventive-type measure." A right-handed pitcher with a 96 mph fastball, Sthele played with some of the country's elite high school players in developmental leagues and all-star showcases this summer. "He was in Florida, he was all over the United States all summer long and if he doesn't get some rest, then basically he's going to overwork that arm," Reagan football coach Lyndon Hamilton said. "He is legit to go this week. "We're just making sure his arm, and elbow and shoulder were good to go. He will more than likely be all in the mix this week for sure," Hamilton said. "When you work all summer long on that shoulder, and you go straight from last year's football season to baseball season, and from baseball season into summer, when you're pitching throughout the summer, if we don't give these young kids some rest, and allow some time off for those elbows, arms and shoulders, ultimately they may have a breakdown," Hamilton said. https://www.kens5.com/article/sports/reagan-quarterback/273-e9b8f40e-a9fa-4a3e-9418-e6facba4776e
  7. Tweet and story from AAS below. Did they acknowledge the fans in attendance in any manner ? Not sure staying on the court in a huddle accomplishes that. As Twice indicates, will be some disappointed fans, young and old. https://www.hookem.com/texas-volleyball/20201002/longhorn-volleyball-players-explain-didnt-acknowledge-eyes-texas/
  8. Christian Jones had key mistakes - chop block, couldn't pick up the stunt. Checked his bio after the game, very inexperienced, began playing football his junior year of high school. No other option ? With the benefit of hindsight, an ankle injury last spring seems to be the only thing that kept Christian Jones from parlaying the buzz he created in practices leading up to the Sugar Bowl at the end of 2018 into a featured role up front. If the former soccer player who didn't take up football until his junior year of high school is going to make his move, he can do it in 2020 with the right tackle job open and Jones possessing all of the tools to man the spot. https://247sports.com/college/texas/LongFormArticle/Texas-Longhorns-Football-10-former-recruiting-sleepers-help-Texas-win-in-2020-Tom-Herman-Sam-Cosmi-Chris-Brown-147515541/#147515541_5
  9. No knowledge, but the Pappas brothers had conflicts with the Board of Directors. May have been some effect on the operation/success of the company. Thus, they may not agree with the decision to liquidate. Story from Aug '19. Luby's on Tuesday announced a new chairman and two new directors to its board, eight months after winning a contentious proxy fight brought on by one of its investors who pushed for leadership changes amid lagging sales. Gerald Bodzy was named chairman of the Houston-based restaurant chain, succeeding Gasper Mir, who will remain on the board as an independent director. John Morlock and Randolph Read were tapped as independent directors, replacing Judith Craven, who is retiring, and longtime leader Harris Pappas, who resigned from the board earlier this year. Harris Pappas' brother, Chris Pappas, remains chief executive. The changes come eight months after Luby's prevailed in a proxy fight brought on by activist investor Bandera Partners. The New York-based hedge fund, which had been a Luby's shareholder for more than a decade, lobbied unsuccessfully to replace the Pappas brothers, Mir and board member Frank Markantonis with its own slate of candidates, including former Sen. Phil Gramm, the father of Jeff Gramm, a Bandera co-founder. https://www.chron.com/business/retail/article/Months-after-proxy-fight-Luby-s-names-new-14366583.php
  10. So You're Saying There is a Chance/gif HOUSTON, Texas -- When Luby's announced a plan of "liquidation and dissolution," the cafeteria chain's long-term prospects for survival seemed pretty dim, but a faint flicker of hope remains. In a document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company revealed it has entered into a confidential agreement with Luby's CEO Chris Pappas that could lead to his acquiring the company. The document explicitly states that Pappas has only been granted access to financial information for the purpose of potentially making an offer for some portion of the company's assets. Pappas has not made an offer, and, even when he does, the company is not obligated to accept it. (The Houston Chronicle was first to report on the details of the SEC filing.) Still, Pappas is one of the company's major shareholders, holding 18.43% of the company's shares. His brother, Harris Pappas, owns an additional 17.86% of the company's shares, per the filing. Their holdings include approximately one million shares owned by Pappas Restaurant, the Houston-based restaurant juggernaut they own together. Whatever the future holds, 80 Luby's and Fuddruckers locations remain open. Diners who want these establishments to remain in business might want to consider patronizing them to demonstrate to Pappas and his brother than they're worth acquiring. https://abc13.com/is-luby's-closed-future-of-popular-texas-diner-luann-platter-fuddruckers-out-business/6488551/
  11. Ladies and gentlemen, the greatest coach in NFL history. Or a homeless man who looks exactly like Belichick and wandered in off the street. Take your pick. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/bill-belichick-looks-like-he-hasn-t-slept-showered-or-changed-clothes-since-the-seahawks-loss/ar-BB19lRFp?ocid=msedgdhp
  12. Wish the best for your daughter and family. Congrats on the game winning hit. So you think you can hang with the other teams that the coaches knew the players during the draft ?
  13. Excerpt from email. On our phone lines, the currently most-asked question is regarding seating for the Oct. 10 Texas-OU AT&T Red River Showdown. Our team is working diligently with health and medical officials and The University of Texas, University of Oklahoma and State Fair of Texas leadership to allocate seating for the annual event. We hope to have an announcement on policies and procedures next week followed by digital tickets distribution during the first week of October. Stay safe, be healthy and hook ’em! 15. The Legend continues. Nice story on Kai. Trained with Jaxon Shipley. (excerpts) For Money, that marathon started years ago at Saint Joseph. He threw 91 career touchdowns and was a four-time 1,000-yard rusher for the Bloodhounds. But aside from some FCS and Division II schools, the undersized private-school standout failed to gain much recruiting interest. At one point, it looked like he would accept an offer from Houston’s track and field program and then try to walk on with the Cougars’ football team. But Money went into Villarreal’s office one day to announce that he was going to Texas. That was his dream school, and he had been saying since he was young that he’d be a Texas football player. He would just take his chances with a walk-on tryout. In order to make it, he had to switch from quarterback to receiver, a position he had never played before. His private quarterbacks coach connected him with Jaxon Shipley, the former Longhorns star who now trains receivers himself. Money trained with Shipley when he got to Austin, even borrowing a friend’s car to get to some workouts. “I started to realize after a month that man, he’s starting to get this thing down,” said Shipley, whose 218 career receptions still rank third in UT history. https://www.hookem.com/story/20200915/money-moment-texas-walk-kai-money-cashed-chance-play-utep/
  16. https://txstatebobcats.com/sports/football/coaches https://goutsa.com/coaches.aspx?path=football Traylor assembled a good staff SEC experience (OC/DC) Matt Mattox, OL coach, Rod Wright, DL. Spavital, not so much. Not much P5 experience. Tevin Mims, OLB coach
  17. Welcome to the club ! You should be fine and hopefully will be impressed by the results. Diet and exercise still very important. And an annual blood test (CMP) to insure no adverse effects. Most have none.
  18. https://www.lubys.com/locations Just checked for my area. Per website, only Anderson Ln, Mopac, and Slaughter Ln are open.
  19. Great photo and stretch for the high throw. Like the apprehensive look on the player in the background. Do you have another son who is a catcher, or same ?
  20. https://txstatebobcats.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/tevin-mims/1289 Tevin Mims is Outside LB coach for Texas St. Please refresh my memory on his brief career at Texas, Doing well, got his Masters. Mims went to South Florida after helping lead Navarro to a Southwest Junior College Championship in 2011. He went to Navarro after playing four games as a freshman at Texas.
  21. It's a cruel game... Payton was optioned to the Reds' alternate training site Tuesday. Payton appeared in eight of 12 games during his time on the 28-man roster and hit .167 (3/18) with a double and five strikeouts. He'll return to alternate camp to make room for newly acquired Brian Goodwin on the major-league roster. https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/reds-mark-payton-optioned-to-alternate-training-site/
  22. Thoughts and prayers for a great family, South Austin ! Just a thought for those over 50 or with a family history of renal/bladder cancer, good to have an annual urinalysis. Blood is not always visible.
  23. Not my wheelhouse. SnakeDiggity has a good projection in post 189 (above). I will say the expanded roster due to the virus may be a challenge to manage. May be difficult to get everyone reps/innings and keep morale/chemistry high. So important. (Dr Beeper is a sharp guy, gives me advice on royalty interests)
  24. Have you verified the above or just accepted his word ? Strange that the gov't would not continue to accept a payment plan or perhaps he was delinquent or stopped payments. May want to verify thru a third party, if possible. Also, consider if this became public how it would affect your business.
  25. Mark Payton went 0-2 in his first MLB start (LF). Ground out, well hit ball to the warning track. Replaced with a pinch hitter and the OF rotated with another player going to CF, CF to LF. Streamed the game. As can be expected, he seemed tight, but more relaxed when he hit the ball to the track. Caught it well. Worked the count to 3-1, 3-2 in both ABs. Reds are struggling, lost 3/4 to the Cards in battle for 2nd place in NL Central. Hang tough, Mark !
