  1. Holy crap, I cut down two hackberry trees behind my shed several months back and now they’re back! I left like a inch of stump and those SOB managed to survive. So now I removed all the new growth. I also took my reciprocating saw 365 around the stump to cut off the roots. I should get some of that brush killer as well. I have small hacks all over my yard too. Little buggers are impossible to pull up. Can you apply the brush killer with a foam brush? Some of these are close to other plants I don’t want dead.

  3. Is there one you recommend?
  4. Wow that’s informative. Could you please share the source/link etc?
  5. A friend told me there is a 2015 video that surfaced of Patrisse Cullors stating that’s she’s a Marxist. “We actually do have an ideological frame. Myself and Alicia in particular, we're trained organizers. We are trained Marxists. We are super versed on ideological theories." I can only find quotes but not the video. Anyone see this?
  6. Homer, that looks great. And don’t worry about the 3yo daughter’s behavior too much. I think 3 is a hard age with girls, it’s like the terrible twos on steroids. It should improve when she’s 4. Anyway...back to the project... that gives me inspiration to do something with my side. I’m not sure what just yet because it needs to be regraded. However, having grass on the side yard is BS. If you look at other geographies, it’s usually something utilitarian like a sidewalk.
  7. USAA Youth Accounts offer easy integration with your accounts. You can even setup a login for children 13 and older plus customize their access to view or to be able to transfer money. They also have a lot of different alerting options for low balances and whatnot. What sucks is their lack of interest rates. I have a kid who’s saved up enough that it warrants getting an account that yields something.
  8. Looking for recs for small (2L-5L) waterproof dry bags that float. We’ll mostly use for tubing, kayaking and will keep essentials (phones, key fobs, wallets) so it really needs to be waterproof. Also looking for a rec for waterproof phone pouches that float. Thanks in advance, WC
  9. How about 1/2”-1” Fairland Pink gravel? I think that would give you the look you want and stay in place. Material cost should be similar to pea gravel ($50-$60/yard). If you have a wheel barrow, a decent back and easy access to the site, this isn’t a bad DIY. You could have the gravel delivered by someone like a geogrowers, get the pavers and the border at Home Depot. DIY would run you $500 to $600 and take about a day depending on access. Again not a bad DIY, just depends if you view it as exercise or work below your pay grade. Either way, post pics when it’s done.
  10. how high up? If it’s high, not worth risk of injury imo. ~15 years ago, I installed my current set of gutters for like $600 in Home Depot materials. A friend helped, was a 2 man job. It wasn’t bad but it did get tedious. I didn’t have $3k so I DIY and have no regrets. Gutters still work well and have held up but they have seams which don’t look as nice, and those now have some drips. They’re made of steel and so there is some rust. I do want to replace them now though. It’s time to paint the exterior and the screws have causes some rot on the 1x (one by) under the shingle in a couple of spots. That being said, I will not DIY again. A pro will do a better job, they’ll be seamless which will look better, and they use aluminum which won’t rust. If you DIY, I recommend using hangers that go under the gutters instead of punching holes at the top of the gutter and using the massive screws.
  11. Can you elaborate on what constitutes “expansive soils” ? Also does it matter how much rock you have in the composition? Where I live, it’s a crap ton rock 18” deep. Also seems like a double edge sword. During drought conditions, I’ve seen where my foundation doesn’t benefit from any rain since it’s all diverted by gutters and I then have to run my sprinklers to water the foundation.
  12. That sounds like a headache and opportunity for a leak. If you can afford it, I would recommend replacing the whole unit.
  13. Yes, I had an uncle who was murdered in a robbery. My parents also had a friend who was found dead locked in the trunk of his Volvo. There are some sick people out there... stay vigilant
  14. Any suggestions for an upgrade if you have a standard light socket in the garage? Space is limited socket is between two garage doors, 8ft ceilings.
  15. What makes ABCCANOPY better over EZ Up or the other popular brands? Looks like $50 more... from what I read, legs may be thicker metal? Also how helpful are wives setting up and breaking down?
  16. Interesting thought... the pop up style beach shelters look easy to setup. A couple of those may be a better option if we can fit 5 to 6 people.
  17. Looking for something that’s easy to set up/take down, doesn’t weigh a ton, but not disposable either? Will use at lake and parks.
  18. That’s a pretty nifty device. How big and strong is the dog and how ambitious is he? You may want landlord permission to drop a full post if he’s likely to test the fence. I built a 4 ft tall white picket fence to accomplish the same thing. However my dog is less than 30 lbs. I know someone who put in a 6 ft chain link gate and it looks like a prison
  19. OP, I’ve never heard of a tent helping with the cold. However look for one that can minimize the wind coming through. For example, my Coleman Sun Dome is great for the heat because of massive vent on top and also the rain cover canopies far to let air through. However that sucks when it’s cold because the wind passes right through.
  20. I don’t know much but was reading on another forum about them since I’m considering buying a sedan. It’s to be determined how much I’ll actually drive it and therefore how much I should care and if I want to pay extra for a regular tranny. However, I wanted to have a basic understanding of pros and cons in preparation of any potential fire sales. And yeah I need to test drive...
  21. This. Also one of my HVAC engineer friends says there is little difference between Goodman and Amana. In many cases it’s literally just the badge.
  22. Anyone own a car with one? Thoughts on them? I don’t know if I could get used to a shiftless car but also don’t know it would be much different than a 9 or 10 speed automatic.
  23. only explanation for such an amazing draft is that Jerry lost internet connection on his yacht
