  1. This. I’m a 10.8 index and I hit my drive 270 (sometimes longer) and my 5 iron 190 but short game often is a challenge. I usually play the men’s tees which is one short of the very back tees.
  2. When I had a pool I was a disciple of troublefreepool.com. Go there and follow the advice. CYA levels should never get too high if you are doing it right. If they do then you basically are fucked and you have to drain to get it down.
  3. If you are going to keep it wrapped and stored in a cooler for an hour or two post-smoke shouldn’t you let it come down to around 160-170 degrees first? I have wrapped it in paper and towels right after taking it off the smoker (at around 204 or so) and put it in a cooler and it kept cooking.
  4. That was one my favorite Brady Bunch episodes.
  5. A bunch of them were Howard Hughes’ caretakers at the old DI.
  6. It’s a done deal. 100% that we are playing in the SEC in 2022. Just read up a couple of pages. I hope your sarcasm meter is not broken. Sure, it may happen and it’s possibly even very likely to happen. But it’s not certain.
  7. I’m just a little younger. I was 17 when I started UT but turned 18 within a few months and then i was always legal during my four years as the drinking age was raised. Yes, it is hard to imagine going through much of college not being able to drink legally. Worst law ever but that’s another thread. On draft registration, I was among the first group to have to register for the draft. I was proud to do so.
  8. Assuming you can store them well (around 55 degrees) buy some second or third growth Bordeaux-first growth is damned expensive. In 20-25 years they should be outstanding especially if the vintages are good. They also likely will have appreciated in value, maybe even substantially. You/they may want to sell them.
  9. 77 earlier in the week in Colorado. My lowest round ever. Two birdies and I missed only one fairway and made two double bogeys from just off the green and I had a three putt par on a par 5.
  10. My first home UT game was in 1980 my freshman year and we played Arkansas in the college TV kickoff classic (i think that’s what it was called—it was the first big televised game of the season). We beat Lou Holtz’s team. It was a great way to begin four years of generally excellent UT football.
  11. Not that we should, or would, do so, but how many national championships can add from years past because of the way SEC counts national championships?
  12. For Houston guys playing public golf I highly recommend Gus Wortham in EaDo. I played it today. $49. Fabulous course. It was HCC’s course from 1908-1958. It’s in great shape, especially with all the recent rain. It runs along Breas Bayou so you get some interesting elevation changes. On some holes you’d never know you were in Houston. The new clubhouse should be finished in a few months and it will be very nice.
  13. Too many pessimists here. Read some more optimistic views of the future. The Next Hundred Years would be a good start. Also, read Factfulness to get an understanding of why so many of us are pessimists.
  14. I was there in spring 2020 when my club opened 9 holes at a time. I had a 35 and several mid to high 30 nine hole rounds. My handicap plummeted and I thought I would forever be a mid to low single digit index. By late 2020 I was back to an 11 index and I’m still there. It’s a cruel game.
  15. The Memorial Herman reference was a mistake. I meant to type the Methodist system. That’s what they told my mother as the reason why they were having a different time caring for my father.
  16. We did that in the summer with dried mud balls that were damn near rock hard. We were idiots.
  17. In Houston is never going to stop raining.
  18. The people I know who are not getting the covid shot(s) had no issues with the MMR, small pox, polio, and the other vaccines for the them and their children.
  19. Many nurses, for some reason, are avoiding the shots. My father is in the hospital quite often battling the last stages of Parkinson’s and just old age and last week when he was there the folks at Methodist Hospital said that the Memorial system has around 130 nurses that can’t come to work because they wouldn’t get the shot. They were incredibly short staffed.

    Colonoscopy

As I was waking up from the anesthesia I had the best feelings I’ve ever experienced. I wanted to go back to that place immediately. I get my next one in a couple years and I’m looking forward to it. The prep sucks but it’s not really that big of deal.
  21. This. During sporting events that I follow on an iPhone app I will get alerts on my iPhone about 5-10 seconds before the scoring play airs on YTTV.
  22. Joking, no doubt. Really hard for me to give a pass to obviously bullshit claims of racism.
  23. It takes a large set of balls to ask someone to move from first class to coach so they can bring a spouse up to first. After I stopped laughing I would have said “you’re kidding, right?”
  24. I'm vaxxed, my entire family is vaxxed and the vast majority of my friends and coworkers are vaxxed. I believe everyone who is eligible should get vaxxed. But I know a great many people who are not vaxxed and they don't plan to get it. Many here will think otherwise, but they are not idiots. They are professionals (lawyers, financial types, etc.) or business owners and they are successful. They have their reasons for not getting vaccinated--some have already had COVID, but calling them stupid or mentally ill is not helpful or correct.
